View Full Version : HSN: 730 update

Hi Everybody! It's time for Animate Dead (730) to get its big update!
First, the Maximum Animatable Level (MAL) for animates has been revised to: (700s ranks, capped at level) - 10 + (700s ranks over level / 10, max of 5) + (WIS Bonus / 5) + (Necromancy Lore Ranks / 10). The entire formula is capped at the caster's level + 15.
Second, the components of the spell are now optional! Feel free to simply PREP and CAST the spell to make it work. With this change the duration of the spell has changed to a flat 10 minutes, but if crimson salts are used the duration is 20 minutes + 6 seconds per level of troll blood used. Using SACRIFICE CHANNEL will refresh the duration to the original value.
Third, if a gem is used for the animation process it will boost the level of the animated creature by +1 for every 400 value of the gem used, maxed at the caster's MAL. This will include the appropriate combat stats for the creature.
Fourth, Sorcerers may now use ASSESS on a corpse to see if it is suitable for animation before casting at it.
LAST BUT NOT LEAST (My favorite part), animates have learned a new ability: Corpse Explosion! Simply TELL ANIMATE TO EXPLODE will cause your animate to... explode! The explosion is player friendly, and will affect a number of targets up to 2 + 1 per every 20 Necromancy Lore ranks. The explosions are elementally themed based on the caster's attunement, and elemental lore training in the element of the explosion will increase the damage of the explosion. The explosion uses the Standard Maneuver Roll and training in Necromancy Lore increases the chances for the explosion to hit its targets.

Can someone test to see if you can tell your animate to explode when you're disabled? (Stunned vs webbed etc)
Also: Ithzir Scouts at max MAL swing every 4 seconds, or there abouts. Enjoy.

>tell anim explode
You instruct your animate to explode.
Wisps of black smoke suddenly begin to arise from an animated rotting Citadel arbalester and tiny licks of flame flicker around his body. Swiftly growing into a raging inferno, he explodes in a violent eruption of fiery chunks of arbalester!
A rotting Citadel arbalester is caught in the explosion!
... 5 points of damage!
Minor burns to left leg. That hurts a bit.
A decaying Citadel guardsman is caught in the explosion!
... 15 points of damage!
Burst of flames to right hand fries palm. Ouch!
When the explosion subsides, there is nothing left of the Citadel arbalester.
You sense a loss of the connection between you and your animate.

Exploded a couple griffins in otf, fun times http://pastebin.com/2V8aFPPa
An animated war griffin abruptly ceases movement as it becomes encased in a thick layer of rock from the bottom up. As soon as the layer is completely formed, it explodes into a mass of boulders and gore!
An Ithzir scout is caught in the explosion!
... 35 points of damage!
Massive blow to temple drops the Ithzir scout in his tracks!
The Ithzir scout vainly struggles to rise, then goes still.
An Ithzir janissary is caught in the explosion!
... 45 points of damage!
Strike to temple cracks skull open!
The Ithzir janissary vainly struggles to rise, then goes still.
An Ithzir adept is caught in the explosion!
... 40 points of damage!
Hard blow to temple scrambles brain!
The Ithzir adept vainly struggles to rise, then goes still.
The Ithzir adept no longer bristles with energy.
The glowing specks of energy surrounding an Ithzir adept suddenly shoot off in all directions, then quickly fade away.
The tingling sensation and sense of security leaves an Ithzir adept.
The brilliant luminescence fades from around an Ithzir adept.
An Ithzir adept becomes solid again.
The bright luminescence fades from around an Ithzir adept.
The shimmering multicolored sphere fades from around an Ithzir adept.
An Ithzir adept is caught in the explosion!
... 45 points of damage!
Every bone in the left arm shattered and scattered about!
When the explosion subsides, there is nothing left of the war griffin.
You sense a loss of the connection between you and your animate.

Someone try making a really high level kobold with a 40k gem?
Actually I guess gems won't count that high. Would use base value, not including trade ranks and all that.

Using SACRIFICE CHANNEL will refresh the duration to the original value.
I wish Sacrifice Channel refresh was a flat amount based on critter level or something rather than 'back to the original value'. But what a great change. Hot Sorcerer Nights needs to continue forever.

I read that as the amount of time you originally animated the creature at, so if it happened to be around 20 minutes when you animated it, when you use sac channel, it restarts the timer on the 20 minute duration. Am I reading this wrong?

TGO - you need to make a new script that records the beneficial spells critters cast on players into a database so Sorcerers can go "hunt spells".
I.E. Shan Rangers will cast Mobility on you, and Ethereal Mage Apprentices will cast Thufel's Ward, while Putrified Citadel Heralds will cast Spirit Shield.
Then we can just do a ;animate-spells 202 and it will list out all the critters known to cast that spell when using the command "tell animate magic"!

I saw some comments made around how often each spell is cast. I'm guessing somebody ran some historical queries to see how 'useful' each spell is and using that data figured out what needed to be changed to various spells to make them more 'successful' (more often used).
It would probably be pretty sad to see how infrequently some of these spells they did so much work on were used.

MAL is capped at +5 levels above the base, so no capped Kobolds i'm afraid. Still makes a big difference for critters, though. Especially melee based ones.

No, that's correct. So if you use great salts, you could have a 30 minute duration and refresh it for 30 minutes with each sacrifice. Makes the 10 minute version less useful, but gives a strong usage for salts.

Can't specify it, but they do cast more than one spell sometimes. The herald in the citadel cast both spirit strike (117) and spirit shield (202) at me. We just need a way to record what the critters will cast, so we can compile a list of spells out there that can be "hunted" to avoid having to find the spells.

It gets ugly even animating an Ithzir Scout at +5 of its gen range. It swings every 4 seconds. I used to give them 4x flaring lances and watch them eat Constructs. I couldn't imagine one at an even higher level.
One has to imagine that even if they're +100 levels above the base, the attack speed would be capped at 1 attack every 3 seconds.

I think most of the benefits of having some enormously over-leveled low level animate would be removed by the fact that most lower level mobs have higher roundtimes and some even just skip turns to make it less insane for low level players. A level 115 kobold isn't going to do much to help you.
And you already have really good options for animates at higher levels. Combatants, Radicals, Defender... Defenders are kind of OP already because they don't get wounds just HP damage. What could possibly be more OP? You already have Bandits, orcs, ogres, and trolls that scale with level that are pretty OP. Maybe if there's some lower leveled swinging mob that has major elemental or spiritual beneficial spells that swings quickly...
The Wiki says Muscular Supplicants are great animates because they do nothing but swing. 3 second RTs are normal. For a 19,200 silver gem you get a level 115 Muscular Supplicant. That might be pretty awesome.

My experience with this (limited as it is) is actually that creatures spawn with a base rt inherent to the creature, so giving them more levels via 730 may not change it.
Most grizzled weapon-users are in the 2-3sec rt territory. Grizzled dudes were some of my favorite animates.
Also, is it just me, or did the gem chisel become a potentially interesting reanimation tool?

19k is about at the upper limit of what you could get a normal gem (with Purify and a chisel) unless i'm unaware of some extremely valuable ones. It's certainly possible, if expensive.

Gem Chisels already were quite nice for Animate Dead because the old spell got a duration boost from the gem's value. This is obviously Way....way way better, though.
As for critters, you can actually find some faster than others in a hunting range. Ithzir Scouts are an example. They swing faster if they're at the top of their range than a standard (or substandard) one.
Ceyrin
07-23-2015, 03:29 PM
That does stand to reason against the fact that grizzled/ancient creatures are "just" higher level versions of the critter they're based on.
If RT reduction CAN occur through major MAL adjustments, then it makes the spell very very flexible, I think.

I'm not sure if slabs of silver or refined bars of gold count as gems mechanically for this sorceror spell, but the gemshops takes them.
Anyway, I've hit over 30K I think it was on the gold slabs when the coins turned to silver were 10K. Try piercing gaze on super heavy 100 lbish boxes and if the coins over 10K, call lightning it. Then have a cleric turn it to gold - assuming either of those metals work as gems for the spell.
I don't believe gold slabs could be purified when I tried awhile back. Not sure about the gem chisel but unlikely. Still a higher total than naturally occuring treasure finds with enhancements.

My slabs sell out from containers, but I don't make them via call lightning.
And the ability to make smelter ones into gold was nerfed so even if slabs from the item work better due to whatever flag allows them to sell from a bag, total value in silver state would be about par or less from top end purified gems.

After you chisel them they can get pretty high, especially if you have one of the bugged ones that wasn't fixed and you could chisel it more than once. I know I had a ton of expensive*(numbers I quote are probably wrong) gems on my guy when i sold out to buckwheat. Not sure what he did with everything. So, this is the reason we need a spell database for critters:
Now that I can just 730 whenever the hell I want, I went around RR and animated everything. Here's the useful spells I found just on the tiny island:
Ethereal Mage Apprentice - Thurfel's Ward (503)
Putrified Citadel Herald - Spirit Shield (202), Spirit Strike (117)
Hisskra Shaman - Resist Elements (602)
Greater Moor Wight - Haste (506)
Swamp Hag - Thurfel's Ward (503), Strength (509), Wizard's Shield (919)
Want a level 62 haste-bot? Go animate a Greater Moor Wight with a 10k+ gem (right?) and watch as it just spams haste and only haste on you!
Want to get 4 hours of Strength and Thurfel's for the low cost of 30 mana? Go find yourself a Swamp Hag and you're set.

If someone thinks the data is valuable enough, I have a database of historical gem value data (I record all of my gem sales to it with the character's race, INF and trading skill at the time of sale), and can aggregate out a max, min, avg for each gem types based on it and publish it at a url like the critter data.
Fair warning, I don't hunt in EN, but I have grepped the logs of a few friends for their EN gems so it may have a few gaps left, but is mostly full.

I wonder if this messaging is flawed, or if your animate can 'mote' you.

You'll see that every time but your animate cannot hit you.

So if i understand this correctly.....even a sorcerer without necro lore can use this spell...well then, that fucking rocks.

730 sounds pretty badass now.

Someone try making a really high level kobold with a 40k gem?
Actually I guess gems won't count that high. Would use base value, not including trade ranks and all that.
Does this mean that my gems that are too valuable for the gemshop to take are actually worth something now?

Best to throw them into a shop and/or open auction now and catch the market of sorcerers wanting to play with the new features.

19k is about at the upper limit of what you could get a normal gem (with Purify and a chisel) unless i'm unaware of some extremely valuable ones. It's certainly possible, if expensive.
"a shard of dragonmist crystal" is the most valuable gem in Gemstone.

There's a block of 20 for sale in my thread of gems for sale (see below). I won't even raise the price to gouge you and spoil your new found fun. It's possible a few of them have been sung to, but none have been chiseled. I'll put some more up for sale in Aalish's shop in Icemule as singles.

Edit: I've appraised half a dozen of them that are going in my shop and the values aren't huge without being sung to, but Buckwheet and I did some experimenting (mostly Buck really, I just supplied the gems) and determined that with purification and a chisel he could get some of them up over 30k.

I don't recall having trouble selling any of the gems I purified/chiseled. Though I may have purposely saved most of the ones that were worth that much. And are you having trouble just with someone using close to 30% trade value, or just a reg character?

Actually we just went to a town with an unfavorable trade deal or used a different character to sell them. I forget which method worked. I was just impressed that he could get gem values up over 30k.

Yeah, I had fun with a chisel before I decided purifying and chiseling everything was... crazy time consuming and boring. But before I reported about the bug on mine, I think I got a gem to 70k or something, chiseling it multiple times.

* Animate Dead (730) has been updated so that the maximum animatable level is now caster's level + 20.
* Due to the significantly increased accessibility of the spell, we've had to lower the duration of enhancement spells cast by animates. The duration is limited to the remaining duration of the animate itself.
* Soulstone wands now: (1) increase the caster's MAL by 5 (able to go above the normal cap), (2) boost the animate's level by 10 (still stacks with a gem), and (3) when POINTed at an animate, will renew its duration.
* Wyrewood rattles now grant a sizeable bonus (~25%) when held and summoning a demon (stacks with a runestone).

They buffed and nerfed 730 in the same fix. Now when you animate something, and use the MAGIC command you will get 10 minute buffs that will not stack.
No more hunting animates for spell-ups...

To be fair, getting big spells ups from animates was a relatively new thing.

To be fair, getting big spells ups from animates was a relatively new thing.
To be doubly fair - I hunted every magical creature that was within my level range (70 and down), and the best I could get was:
503, 618, 602, 202, and there was one creature in RR that did 509. To spend 63 mana (711 x3 + 730) to get these spells and the time it took to hunt them down and get them to cast the spells seemed like a fair trade-off. I think the removal of this feature is sorta unnecessary.
Everything else that the Animates cast were spells I already knew, or spells that had very short durations (i.e. 506, 919, 117 and there was one that was casting 140). So those haven't changed. Most higher level mages just spammed wizard's shield on you non-stop.
I had similar results when animating Grim in the warcamps.

One other update to Animate Dead (730): you may now re-animate a player once the first animation ends (due to time running out, being disconnected, etc).

Troll's blood for Animate Dead (730) has been updated such that Grimswarm trolls of any level will contribute to the animate's duration (no longer capped at level 63). In addition, every level of the troll that is used will now increase the animate's duration by 15 seconds (formerly 6) per. As such, an animate can now last up to 45 minutes when using level 100 troll's blood.
