HSN: Mana Disruption (702) Update! on 07/12/2015 12:41 PM PDT

Let's get this party started...

Mana Disruption (702) has been updated with several new revisions and enhancements. First, the spell's previous hidden damage is now visible to tell you exactly how much damage you've dealt. Second, we've removed the creature specific range checks. The spell hasn't been Touch of Disruption for a long time now, so there was little reason to keep that component when almost all other attack spells were not subject to it. Affected creatures include: tree and forest vipers, bats, storm and war griffins, aivren, and Ithzir with their sonic boom event. Lastly, the spell now has a chance to temporarily disable an enhancement spell on a target for 15 seconds. Using the caster's Spirit and Elemental Mana Controls (with the higher of the two counting all ranks and the lesser counting half ranks), it uses a seed 1 summation to determine the % chance to disrupt a spell. If successful, it will randomly select a spell from the target based upon the caster's MC skills. Specifically, if the caster has higher SMC, it will attempt to randomly select a spiritual spell first, or if EMC is higher, an elemental spell. If they are equal, it will randomly select one type. If that type of spell is not found on the target, it will try the other type. The highest level of spell that can be affected is determined by the caster's relevant (SMC or EMC ranks / 5). e.g. it requires 95 ranks of Spirit Mana Control to temporarily disrupt Spell Shield (219).

An interesting fact: Mana Disruption is the most often cast spell in the game. In the last week alone, it has been cast 176,052 times - once every 3.4 seconds.

I like the EMC/SMC tie in.

Hopefully, 702 is not the only sort spell they changed.

Heh. It would be interesting to see a week's stats circa '99.

Glancing at the Summation chart you'd be maxing out with a 24% chance to disrupt defensive spells with 2x one mana control, 1x the other. Someone call me dumb if my math is off.

Yes and no... your conclusion is correct... However, it would require both to be at 200 ranks... or one at 202, the other at 196... Primary is 1x weighting, secondary is .5x weighting.
The summation 1 chart hits 24% at 300

So basically fully 2xed for maximum benefit. Not entirely unreasonable. I was hoping that they would add a damage modifier to either 702 or 705 but it looks like that's not going to happen.

I was hoping they would bring back GS3 mana disrupt. Anyone have logs of that?

That's basically 409 isn't it?

While nice, this does seem a bit lackluster. Here's to hoping more sorc spells get something done to them

The sacrifice update was huge. We also have the E-lore review ahead of us.

True about the sacrifice update. The e-lore review is a bit worrying, especially to my haste potion drinking war-sorc.

Yeah, this basically says the equivalent of one full time script hunter uses the spell. How many people actually play the game now, and how many are slaves to another account, or just there to 'RP'?

With the proliferation of easy access wizard spell slaves, I would imagine rapid fire 702 is a prime culprit for that stat. Along with Ensorcell, there are plenty of sorcerers about.

I think you're in the clear. I have a feeling that the nerf would come to other-cast aspects of the spell as opposed to scroll/imbed/etc use.

Well... prior to GS4, scripts or no scripts, there wouldn't have been that many casts (if we're using the same number of sorcerers; pretty sure there were more back then) because you rarely had to cast at something more than two or three times. Rapid fire 702 wasn't exactly necessary.

Prior to GS4 there was uber DC, so yes, no need to rapid fire MD anything.
