Pretty much encompasses how I feel. I've never finished III, characters didn't stick with me for whatever reason. Loved I, II and VII though. Haven't played VIII or beyond because they all look like meh to me.

Never played 8 and 11-14. 9 was pretty good. 6 and 7 are my favorites.

It's been ages since I've played it so my info could be wrong. That or it was so bad I had to block it from my brain to survive. Y'know, like the shit with Lightning.

7 was ok. 8 was good mechanically but stupid story wise. 12 is the best FF game since the super nintendo.

Same. 9 was alright, but the hardcore cutesy catboy direction they went kinda spoiled it a little.

Last FF I played and enjoyed was FF3 here in the states, which I am assuming is 6 in Japan. I tried 7 when it came out and thought it was crap. Tried a few more down the line and didn't like them either. I did want to give this game another try and glad they're remaking it, as I don't have the nostalgia needed to make the original playable.

12 was good. Would love an HD remake. Took the bounty system from 10 and made it much better.

I really wish that they had stuck with FF12's style for at least a few games. I loved the gambit system, and combat in general.

I am amazed that people liked 12. To each their own, I suppose. Now if only they'd make a sequel to Tactics. (And no, they never fucking made one, the same way Sega never made a sequel to Valkyria Chronicles).

That would be the greatest game announcement ever (for me.) None of that kidsy bullshit either.

Seriously. I'd give my firstborn for that sequel.
Well maybe not my firstborn. A cousin then. I'd definitely give up a cousin or two.

Final Fantasies I've played.
~NES~
1 - Classic.
2 - Classic.
~SNES~
2/5 - Top 10 games. Played it a couple years ago, Japanese version, and the difficulty difference was astounding. It was actually hard. I loved it. And I've always had a soft spot for Kain/Dragoons since playing this game.
3/6 - Top 20 games. Solid storyline, majorly lovable characters, great arcs. Sabin was the inspiration for Chuck Norris to become a martial artist.
7 - Top 15 games. A lot of emphasis went into this game because it was one of the actual FIRSTS. It implemented then-brand new polygon technology that no other game had ever utilized. Plus it was a great game, and a righteous story. Plus... Tifa. Boobs. #DealWithIt.
8 - Top 15 games. Everything was astounding. The graphics, the gameplay, the storyline. The cutscenes were absolutely beautiful. It was genuinely immersive. Getting Random stuck on you was terrible and ruined your day. Stocking magic for the first time DID suck, but once you were done you felt great.
9 - I hated this game. A LOT of people say they liked it but I remember two days before I bought it I saw a gaming magazine article that reviewed it and they said and I quote, "They obviously were scraping the bottom of the barrel to make this game go.' I ignored the review..... and they were right. They were so right it's ridiculous. The main character has a monkey tail. #InsertDBZJokesHere.
10 - Top 10 games. Phenomenal story. Phenomenal graphics. Phenomenal everything, to be honest. And blitzball. BLITZBALL IS AWESOME! COME ON!
10-2 - Terrible game. I don't know what fan base convinced them to make a game with gun-toting women as the entire game, basing their skills off how they accessorized their clothing options, but it was Simple Jack full retard.
11 - Top 50 games. Played it for quite a while until I ran across a 100% Asian trio crew. They hacked the Odin encounter. It's a timered event. They somehow managed to put themselves 'outside' the arena, where they could still hit Odin, but they couldn't be attacked by him. And because Odin had no actual target, the timer never began. Several hours later, they killed him. None of them got banned. I quit.
12 - Top 5 games. Same as 10, with one minor change. I love the gambit system. Not because it automates everything for me, but because it automates everything for my son. My son learned how to work a console controller playing this game. He didn't have to do anything except run into critters and the game did the rest. He thought he was attacking it all himself, and I was happy watching him exclaim in glee as he massacred dust bunnies and werewolves. For a then 3 year old, it was a damn nice thing to watch.
13 - Didn't like it. Straight up. This was the beginning of the end for the FF franchise for me. Conditional bosses, no skill involved, everyone, for some fucking reason, had a gun. I *HATE* guns in FF's. Vincent/Irvine are excluded, as they were the 'token' gun users. Barret doesn't count. He had missiles! =P.
14 - Played the ORIGINAL. It was a terribly grindy grind. I still played it. I quit after less than a year. It wasn't for me.
14ARR - Played it on release, quit more than once, and went back to it. Am currently playing in the hopes Heavensward will be not terrible. Everytime I resub, I play for 1 month, clear all content, then leave. I really do pray they do something different in the expansion. We shall see.
~Honorable Mentions~
Played Tactics. Wasn't my thing, but I see the appeal.
Played Dirge of Cerberus. Was absolutely stupid. FF FPS is stupid.
A few others I'm not remembering I played.
They need to remake the GOOD final fantasies. People would gladly fork over cash to replay remastered versions of their classics.
I would KILL for a current-gen FF2 with Cecil/Kain.

Wut? Chuck Norris was a martial artist decades before FF5 came out.

Chuck Norris traveled into the future to find someone worthy of teaching him. In his time, there was nobody who could handle the epic of his beard.
Sabin was chosen from the future.

... You're a fan of FFIV and don't know that II stateside was IV in Japan?
They made one in 2008, not really next gen: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_IV:_The_After_Years
I thought the antagonist in 4 was weak compared to 6. 6 had way more going for it. There really isn't any "difficulty" in Final Fantasy games, it's just a product of time / grinding. It's not like Battletoads or anything.
Celes was a badass. Also, your choices in 6 mattered. I fucking bailed on shadow the first time I played the game. WTF, the shit was hitting the fan, he's a ninja, he can figure that shit out for himself.
As for the storyline for 4 I can't get over this:
On the moon, the party meets the sage Fusoya, who explains that Cecil's father was a Lunarian. Fusoya also explains that a Lunarian named Zemus plans to destroy life on the Blue Planet so that the Lunarians can take over, using Golbez to summon the Giant of Babil, a colossal robot. The party returns to Earth and the forces of the two worlds attack the Giant, including Palom and Porom, who have been revived. After the party breaks the robot, Golbez and Kain confront them, only to have Fusoya break Zemus' control over Golbez, in turn releasing Kain. Cecil learns that Golbez is his older brother. Golbez and Fusoya head to the core of the moon to defeat Zemus, and Cecil's party follows. In the moon's core, the party witnesses Golbez and Fusoya kill Zemus, but then quickly fall to his resurrected form, the spirit Zeromus, the embodiment of all of Zemus' hatred and rage. Back on Earth, the Elder of Mysidia commands all of Cecil's allies and friends to pray for the party, which gives Cecil and his allies the strength to fight and slay Zeromus. Following the battle, Fusoya and Golbez opt to leave Earth with the moon. Cecil, at last accepting the truth, acknowledges Golbez as his brother, and bids him farewell.
They go to the fucking moon and then later summon a giant killer robot? WTF?
I can only think of this when I hear the moon plot:

Well my angsty teen self didn't identify with any of those characters, so I didn't really get into it enough to be gripped. Cecil and Cloud make a lot more sense to me. The game itself isn't bad, it just didn't work for me.

How did you identify with Cecil? Honest question. His story arc is mostly one of reluctant acceptance of the Dark Sword/Knight and then redemption/atonement for his sins.
At any rate, I'm actually pretty hyped about Kingdom Hearts 3 even though I won't play it.

I've always been a fan of the series' gameplay, and writing, keeping characters true to their original personas in their native games... but honestly, the plot got pretty out there with all the spinoffs...

Yes... that's a 53 minute video just to explain what's happening with the plot.
Related videos... I had missed the Deus Ex trailer... excited for that also...
