Hide and ambushing in full plate?

Someone was telling me that full plate hinders your hiding and ambushing. Is this true? And if it is what is the highest ASG without hinderence?

Not true, however it does hinder some hiding related CMANs (like vanish)

So would hauberk be the highest asg out hindering vanish?

Anything higher then robes has a penalty to vanish. And anything higher then robes provides a smaller and smaller bonus to armored stealth until you hit 0 in plate class armors.

I use vanish and wear hauberk. I don't fail at vanish very often. It happens once in awhile, but it's not something I worry about. FYI my hiding skills are over 2.5x, and I use armor evasion.

I'd only worry if you try to vanish in an area where you already have trouble hiding or staying hidden.
