My 60ish cleric (pure) is starting to get lesser griffin bounties.
Any tips to avoid the sky ride? Or maybe to mitigate the damage once I get picked up? Other than those maneuvers it seems like he can handle them.

Crit padding, tons and tons of it.

That and perception....1x at least. CMs are probably out of your training plan that early. I made it thru Storm Griffins with FGB and no deaths.

I guess SWCP won't cut it? I don't normally get hit unless I really get caught with my pants down....should I look into the temp HCP from the AG? Can they do that to already padded leather?

Basically, if you're being scooped up, pad what you're getting dropped on (if possible) the most. That sounds like shitty, vague advice, but I got dropped a fuck load on my neck. I went out of my way to find some aventails that were temp padded and my survival rate went up some when I was scooped. You could also get Mobility cast on you since phantom dodge ranks and maneuver defense.

Is it impact or crush, the damage from the drops? Getting coverage either from a warrior or a specialized greathelm should help with the damage. Other obvious tips should be to stay unencumbered and in defensive stance as often as possible. If you're feeling especially vulnerable you could always get some luck talismans as well. If you're in armor with a maneuver penalty you could also have the armor adjusted for a short-term boost.

Exactly. Everyone always wants armor support but rogues can reduce the action penalty of your armor which I'm pretty sure helps with dodging maunevers, at least some of them.

There aren't any spells other than direct damage spells though.

Can't get temp HCP from the guild, only temp HDP which won't do much on the drops.
Impact resistance for sure, possibly crush too as some manuevers have more than 1 damage. Physical Fitness & Perception for skills, CON bonus for stats. Probabaly more...oh and crit padding.

Tgo, being encumbered also lowers ones ability to avoid maneuvers. Most clerics are also in doubles where the maneuver hindrance isn't that bad to begin with.
As to the OP, if you are hunting there at 60 you are likely to have a hard time because storm griffins are 75. Best case scenario they are only 10 levels above you and worst 20. The damage done from the falls is impact as someone else already said. Finding a helm that covers the head/neck with a good amount of temp crit padding is a good idea and should reduce instant deaths by quite a bit. If you find yourself getting plinked to death wear more spells, although depending on your training that maybe easier said then done as the keep is a spellburst area.

Yeah but I'm just saying, if you're dying that often I would think you're running back to town whenever you're even slightly encumbered anyways so might as well go for the more defense if it's causing that much of an issue.

This is my understanding on the subject. I dont claim this to be complete or 100% accurate. Good luck.
Pro: CM, dex bonus, agility bonus, heavier race, armor evasion, armor padding especially on the head and neck (to survive falls), level, armor support(?), perception(??)
Con: Encumbrance, injuries, heavier armor

always peer, and beat the shit out of or avoid them asap is what i did.
though getting screeched into 20 seconds of RT then a storm griffin rolls in = 20 seconds of "please just fucking spam swings at me please just fucking spam swings at me" which invariably leads to you going for a ride with 1 second of RT left, because fuck murphy and his stupid law.

Regarding screech: Symbol of courage and bravery (use pure potions if needed) will help against it.

I always run from the storm griffins :-) It's the lesser griffins that I battle with that will pick me up occasionally. I haven't seen much of a spellburst effect even when I'm fully spelled up.
