So sometimes it seemed like my guys spend literally minutes waiting to be dropped out of the fog in the Rift, I mean heck sometimes wall of force would fall off before my characters were dropped and sometimes my bard couldn't even renew his songs because he was still stuck in the fog. People said "naww, it's just in your head, it doesn't take that long."

So I wrote up a simple lich script to keep track of how long my characters spend in the Rift.

Behold the bullshit in all its glory!

Here is the breakdown of my 5 characters who hunt the Rift.

213 seconds! What is the point of this wait? The Rift was created well after the game went to a flat rate to play so it's not like they had to create literal time sinks that do nothing but sink time.

Waiting for spirit on top of that sucks a bit too... I'm too cheap with my voln favor to use symbol of renew.

It keeps out the riff-raff.

I have always wondered if it is affected by how many people are "in the sphere". I could be completely wrong, but it always seems like it takes longer to drop if one or more other people are in there waiting as well.

I think it's time you knew: Everytime your afk scripting crew attempts to enter the rift, those players already inside are given notice and a few minutes to hurry and gather decent loot before you completely ruin loot in that area. Again.

There is a forced (but random) delay after someone drops out of the sphere before someone else can. It doesn't seem to matter if they are going to the same plane or not. That could be accounting for some of it.

Edited to ask: Okay so, the reps whatever, but what does sharteriffic mean? Apparently I'm behind the times.

Sometimes it's long, sometimes it's short.

Why do you have Wall of Force up before you enter the Rift, anyway? If you hunt on Plane 4, it's not like anything on 1-3 can kill you. (unless I've missed something, and walking west gets you to plane 4)

it seems to me that the wait is longer if more people are in it or recently went through it. Im not sure why someone would use WoF though.

Because I used to always keep wall of force up because some of my characters would get their asses handed to them without it up.

Witnessing wall of force falling off is actually what prompted me to start really paying attention to how long one can end up spending in the fog because I didn't use to pay close attention and figured it was just a few seconds. Seeing wall of force fall off made me realize it could be upwards of 90 seconds. Watching my bard fail to renew his songs while in the fog made me realize it could be upwards of several minutes.

It's a stupid ass mechanic that serves zero purpose.

If you've got to hunt with WoF up, you're hunting on the wrong plane.

Onto the main topic:

There was one time either last night or a couple of nights back where it was upward of 2 minutes before I exited the sphere. I was anticipating a fail (and landing back in the Cavern), but then I landed on plane 3. It was probably the longest I've ever waited.

I wonder if there's a Rift gem that allows you to bypass the randomness, similar to how faceted black diamonds let you deflect the spirit drain.

As for the reason for the mechanic itself, post in the Pinefar Hunting Areas topic (nicely!) and see if anyone knows the answer as to why it exists. It doesn't affect me much, but a wait long enough that can harm a bard's spellsong renewal is problematic.

I know! It's crazy using spells to hunt with huh? :O

Why don't you post about it in the Pinefar Hunting Areas topic (without kissing and licking clean every GM's ass!) and see what they say?

I've noticed the same thing. It takes longer to drop when other people are in or have recently dropped from the sphere.

So the solution is simple; everyone needs to stop hunting in my rift.

Nah, you should quit hunting in our rift. Go make OTF swarm so we can listen to people whine about it.

I don't give a shit, since I play an Empath and I don't keep WoF up all the time. (really, do you run around in stance offensive all the time or something?) I hunt maybe twice a night there, and I usually drop within 15 seconds onto the plane. You run at least 4 characters on Plane 4 on a very regular basis every day, and if it's a bug, it'll affect you disproportionately. You want it fixed, go post there. You want to be a bitch about it and complain about the GMs without trying to get it fixed, then keep on posting here. Pretty simple.

My ranger and sorc needed WoF because they weren't trained in feint yet and the crusaders liked to make them their bitch, especially my sorc since he was only 96 when he first started hunting plane 4.

Get real, they aren't gonna fix it unless they charge SimuCoins to fix it.

If GMs read stuff here and make actual code fixes based on what's posted, then there's no need. I've seen no evidence of that to be the case previously.

I always kept moving in the sphere. Maybe that kept me busy so I didn't notice how long it took. Is there a difference between moving or not?

I don't think you can move once you get the message that you are nothing. I mean I guess you can keep inputting "west" or whatever but I don't think it makes a difference.

Ah yes that part. For some reason I was never bothered by it. Then again my spirit wasn't so low when I dropped that it made a difference.

My char did use WOF in the rift but was fine on initial entry.

Ah, ok. Makes more sense now, esp. for the ranger.

I actually think it's possible the answer is going to be that one of the Rift gems makes the drop quicker. I know the faceted black diamond thing took everyone by surprise when we found out about 4 years ago.

I can't think of a harder place to hunt than the Rift. Certainly the Scatter. Yeah, it's a pain. I can agree with that. Then again, it is the hardest place to hunt.

Maybe Darkstone is harder. At least a close tie.

They've followed the logic of making endgame hunting areas annoying to get to from the start: Darkstone, Broken Lands, Teras Isle, Rift. Someone mentioned the temporary Deadfall hunting area in another thread and one of the perks of that area was its location -- 5 seconds from WL nodes. This is also part of why that area was not and will not be made permanent. Judging from the difficulty of getting into the Confluence, this design principle remains in effect. Same damn reason I have to swim those kids out of Nelemar. So -- why? It's part of the game. It's part of what makes those areas marginally more challenging than: att rat, att rat, att rat.

I don't mind a ~30 second wait. 4+ minutes is stupid and unnecessary. It already takes about 2-3 minutes just to get to the Rift from Icemule, not to mention the stamina/mana required to get into the Rift or the pool that dispels all outside spells and even society powers.

Surprised you haven't picked up an auction tent by now and just set up a permanent camp in the Rift. :) No need to worry about drop times when you never leave (or just have one lackey do all the traveling)!
