November 1st will see the introduction of the Violation System. On the member side of things, all previously recorded violations will be purged, and any member who isn't already banned is essentially given a clean slate.

On the staff side of things, we will be using this month to get used to and familiar with this system for ourselves. I anticipate that mistakes and misinterpretations will be made by both members and staff members, and will be taking that into consideration in trying to be as lenient as I can.

Throughout this month, it's likely that some rules will change, new ones will be implemented, and that the number of violations needed to get banned as well as ban lengths will be adjusted for flexibility.

Kranar - perhaps (for what's left of) this month, if there are any violations that the staff sees - the mod can send a U2U to the poster with the number of points they would have received if it were Nov. 1st.

I realize that there's only a few days left in October, but I have faith in our posters that there will be violations.

Think of the entire month of November as being what you described.

We will treat every violation as outlined by this new system, but it will be treated keeping in mind that this is a new system and that's it's being tested and we're all getting accustomed to it.

If it turns out that 50 demerit points was too few, then that will be changed, if it turns out that a rule is too harsh, then that will be changed and anyone who received a violation for that rule will have their count lowered appropriatly. If, on the other hand, a rule is not harsh enough, then no member will have their count raised as a result. We'll take what ever option is in favour of the member for now until we see the benefits or hinderings of this system.

Is it just me or is this new system of an Orwellian nature? Seems overboard to me.

No.

Is this up for consideration?

I don't play Gemstone, and I really don't use instant messenger or anything like that.

If someone has been registered for over a year, and would use them in a non harassing manner, you mean to tell me it would be a problem?

I would hate to loose contact with people just because I had to "correct" someone who said something stupid.

The best answer to that problem, Longshot, is to "correct" miscreants in a way that doesn't break the rules. It can be done.

I still say call them something besides demerit points, that's my only gripe.

There are no more official references to demerit points. That term has been replaced with violation count.
