for reference, from a discussion on lnet:

step 1) unlearn cman xxx, unlearn cman confirm ... do this for all cman's you know
ste 1.1) do something similar as step 1 for shield and armor system too. I dont know details on that system, but I can update this post is someone wants to reply about them
step 2) open up skill goals, set all skills to 0 (do this immediately after step 1, don't wait to actually unlearn those cmans)
step 3) use the fixskills

you are then ready to pick new skills by opening skill goals and learning new cman's after that

the cmans / shields / armors unlearn themselves when you don't have the appropriate skill. takes a few minutes and you dont have to type anything
1 & 1.1 are totally unnecessary

I think if you skip 1 and 1.1, you will get some prompts about having inadequate skills for your cman ranks and you have X time to relearn them. this happened to me last year. when all was said and done, I had to wait at a table for some 80 hours or something to get my CMANs in order.

Steps 1 and 1.1 avoid a common mistake that people make with fixskills (as gilchristr described).

You skip steps 1 and 1.1. You set your skills to 0, fixskills confirm, then quickly set your new skills. Unfortunately, this can take less time than it does for the old cman/shieldman/armor skills to auto unlearn so you are stuck with the old cman's. The manual unlearn procedure ensures this does not happen.

Sure, its an edge case but it happens. To each their own, I prefer to err on the side of caution when using fixskills.

Don't forget, any alts you aren't currently playing make sure to log them in and do this process.

Then in the event you want to play them again, they're skills are zeroed out and their body is prepared for you.

Agreed, I do this as well for my alts just before 5/20 if they have a fixskill and I'm not going to play them for awhile. When you come back to them its sorta like having 2 fixskills! :)

That's good thinking with the lesser used alts. Definitely don't want to forget to do that!
