I got a level 11 half-elf pole-swinging bard and I'm wondering what kind of armor should I train for and how many trainings ranks? Right now I got leather armor and it's not doing very well against hits. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you're even just single trained in armor you should be able to get into at least leather breastplate with minimal problems, while in the long term most people go for brigandine (35 ranks) or torso chain (50 ranks). I survived to like 25 wearing reinforced leather, just get mass guards and shit

(Pulling up an old topic, because it's easier then making a new topic...xposting from the officials.)
I'm considering getting my bard out of her double leathers and into leather breastplate. I know leather breastplate only covers the torso, but I'd heard that it will cover her arms, legs, neck, head, etc. with the coverage of double leathers (mechanics-wise, for crits and such). Is this right? Or will she lose complete coverage of her arms, legs, head, etc if she does move into leather breastplate?

You are correct, your extremities will have the DF and crit divisor of soft leather. There was something called the partial armor bug, where this wasn't always the case (mostly with certain manuevers) but I believe its long fixed.

Excellent news. Thanks!

Actually your DF for your arms and legs will be for Hard leather. DF does not factor location of the hit. The crit divisor will be soft leather.
