So I have a character I am working on that I want to do skinning with. Was thinking of purchasing a fusion dagger and putting a couple of FA and Survival orbs in to help in skinning. Has anyone done any research as far as what minimum bonus to shoot for on FA and Survival to see much of a noticeable difference in skinning?
Thanks for the help.

I've talked to some of the senior guys and most of them say that 101 ranks in skinning and FA can get you magnificent skins off just about everything. I don't know what you'd need to see a noticeable difference, but every bit helps in getting up to that threshold.
Dexterity boosts will also help.
Neat idea though!

While for the most part it is true that you get magnificent skins near enough to all the time at 2x skinning skills, the value you get from those same skins goes up the more you train in skinning skills. Of course with as much as most skins are over hunted at cap these days I'd consider it a lot less of an issue.

Something to keep in mind is that skinning is rank based not bonus. This means that until you have 40 ranks in the skill 1 bonus =! 1 rank. You'd be looking at 2, 3, 4, or even 5 bonus to equal 1 rank depending on your current ranks. Oweodry has been looking for a +10 or better survival bonus to put in a dagger for a while now with no luck, while big first aid bonus items seem to be a lot easier to come by.

That's right, I forgot about how that works. So in reality, depending on how many actual ranks I have, if I had a +7 FA orb and a +7 Survival orb, I've really only achieved 1 extra rank in each skill, which isn't going to make much of a difference in skinning, correct?

Right, ranks 0-10 are 5 bonus, 11-20 4, 21-30 3, 31-40 are 2. You can hold a +10 bonus around level 30. So if you get lucky enough to find a +10 in each by the time you are able to hold them a dagger would add another +10ish ranks, and by 38 you'd have an extra .5x in skinning, but that would obviously decrease from there as you leveled up. The dagger would certainly net you more silver, and probably make you more then you paid for it given enough time, but I doubt anyone can give you a solid answer on just how many skins or anything that would take.

Awesome, that helps a lot. Thanks Jeril.

I have two skinning fusion daggers (16/11 and 12/7), I am pretty sure they are a money-loosing proposition b/c of orb costs. Jeril is right the survival bonus seems harder to come by, I still have some decent FA orbs if you are looking.

Thanks Versin. I guess I don't mind so much if it's money losing if it makes getting the skins I need for future guild tasks easier, if that makes sense? I'm still in my first 30 days for my rogue that I want to do skinning with, so I'm not sure yet if I'll be able to do 2x and 2x FA and Survival. If I end up only being able to do 1x and 1x or 1x and 2x, I wonder if the dagger will end up helping enough. Based on Jeril's post where eventually it would add an extra .5x for both, it seems like it would. In addition to wanting to build my own rogue, I wanted a character who would have wider options for bounties than my other characters, plus making a bit more silvers in the long run.
I'll PM you later on the orbs. Just bought a few Duskruin enhancives to orb myself, but haven't checked out the cost to orb yet.

depends what you're skinning and/or if you're selling the skins to other players for bounties instead of the furrier

If you're looking to profit from the furrier, make sure you train in some trading as well.

Yes the profitability depends on the costs and revenues.
