The media reports on who gets which endorsements. I don't know that these endorsements translate to votes but I would be interested to hear what others think about them and about their own hometown papers.

For me, The Columbus Dispatch has not stated their position. I suspect that they will choose Bush, it's privately owned and leans conservative.

Here are some interesting details about the current endorsements.

Kerry vs Bush on Newspaper Endorsements

Kerry - 52 Bush - 36

Kerry - 9,223,340 daily circulation
Bush - 4,987,305 daily circulation

Kerry has gained 9 "switches" and Bush 1
(Newspapers that have supported the other party in the previous election.)

Most importantly 3 that backed Bush in 2000 are unable to endorse him.

The most interesting editorial is by the Tampa Tribune (a self- admitted conservative paper) Doesn't endorse either but summarizes exactly all of my reservations with Bush.

Some of the major papers that haven't chosen: The Washington Post, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, The Columbus Dispatch, New York Post, Boston Herald, New York Daily News, Chicago Sun-Times, Saint Paul Pioneer-Press, and Denver Post, among others.

I haven't read a newspaper in months. Isn't about time they're relegated to the same heap that contains the telegraph and the mercury thermometer?

I have never picked a candidate because some fathead Editor did or didn't like a particular candidate. But I can't ignore how slick papers are at disguising their media bias as news. Sometimes it is as subtle as the size of a story sometimes it is more obvious. I know the Toronto Star has never missed an opportunity to bash Bush and since Robert Pritchard (former President of the University of Toronto) has taken the helm at The Toronto Star it is even worse.

I do think the media can influence voters especially with their spread of selective or misinformation.

lol @ PB as I have said before I am right on some issues and left on others so we will find occaision to agree.. And if you read Somerset Maughan as a child you learned to always question the validity of any source of information and look for prejudice or bias.

You never read any newspapers online? Not that I'm aware of. I do read a couple news sites every now and then, but I'm reasonably sure they aren't affiliated with newspapers.
