Heh, so much for my stealthy sniper with shadow mastery and mfire. How is this going to affect everyone's training plan/hunting strategy?

Not at all for me, I'm a Sorcerer and don't train CM. :)

My rogue is going the sniper route but I think he will be alright without the new CM list, as long as I can gain a few more lvls and master gambits before the change grrr.

Lame.
By and large it looks like all the fun stuff that everyone is looking forward to (CM list, new professions, etc.) is allegedly coming out a year from now, while mechanics changes that 90% of the players hate are being released in a month or so. Just release everything in fall 2004 instead of making us wade through a year of the crap at the bottom of the GS4 barrel before we get to the good stuff.

LMAO. Did ANYONE really expect for them to deliver? I mean come on. It's clear they are in WAY over their heads. Any bets on how far we push the switchover too? Any bets on what else they drop out?
Demon summoning?
Breakage?

Ya, like this is a big surprise. I figure GSIV will be fully implemented by 2010, just about the time they begin working on GSV.

<<<Demon summoning?>>>>
I don't even think they have started working on that yet, I could be wrong. I wouldn't expect that out for another 30 years....

Actually they have started working on it. Khaitiff was playing with it in Beta testing a week or so ago... seems you have to have components to cast the spell successfully. Don't ask what they are cos we have no idea and the GM who was on said if he told Khaitiff he'd have to kill him LOL But, the spell was at least working enough to stun him for casting it without having his components together.
Are you sure that was Demonic Summoning and not Animate dead? I don't read the boards much but I could have sworn Demonic Summoning wasn't started yet and has no intention of being started until after all the things are done for GS4.

Animate Dead is the one that's going to be released later. All critters have to move to BCS first

It's minor Summoning that's been released. You can cast the spell, but until the runestones are released also the spell tends to kill you.
Nilven posted what the spell is and what components are needed on the Official GS Sorcery boards.

None of the above interests me to be honest. Except maybe the new combat system.

The CM thing sux0rz. I was definately looking forward to garrote and a few other nice ones.
On the other hand, phase I still isn't going to totally suck.

Forgot to mention--
Block, evade and parry.
That looks interesting. I'm excited about that, too.

edit: Release hasn't changed on that, right?

I'm not looking forward to EBP. I have no problems hunting stuff without spells, it's just going to make it more of a pain in the ass.
At the moment, my level 10 rogue is hunting shamblers (17) and pumas (15, and they pounce). Just the three mass spells, though they don't really matter.

This change from GSIII to GSIV is a huge undertaking. Whether or not I like the idea, I must realize the amount of work required to do what they plan to do. With a primarily volunteer staff, subject to real-life crises and other distractions, it is understandable why it would be difficult to hold strictly to a time-line for change, in my opinion.

Absolutely bloody pathetic. Makes me sick that they had a great new system, then left in the stupid guild system because they wanted to be able to "finish more quickly" thereby neutering their great new system, and now the remnants won't be out for 2 more years.
Makes me pretty bitter about my former excitement about it all.

Guilds will still be around. Hopefully, they won't take out the skills until phase 2.

Yeah, all guild skills (and new additions) will be present in GS4. Unless the GMs fumble again.

The thing is, they were the ones who placed the deadline on themselves. GSIV was announced in, what, June? That gave them 3-4 months to overhaul the entire game. It's like saying you're going to run 20 miles in an hour - an unrealistic, unattainable goal.
They never should have given a release date when nothing had been coded yet.

*nod* It was very...ambitious. I don't think anyone with sense or prior experience with GS deadlines really expected it all to be done. Though HSN was a kind of turning point last year...

I'm surprised they set a deadline that early at all. But, they've known about it for alot longer than june. Remember the pay raise and hiring of 2 extra GMs? That's around when it started.
I'm still thinking it's going to be awesome. Just not as awesome.

We'll see. I expect it to be buggy as hades. And remember the wizard GM has recently quit...

We'll see, but I doubt it. They set the dates to Sept 15. - TBA. I'm guessing that they'll get out all or most of the bugs before they release it, and then quietly clean stuff up for awhile.

All speculation of course. "We'll see" being the most prominent line in regards to GS4.

I dunno, other games work with totally volunteer staff and don't have problems really releasing what they've promised on time. The keyword is "dedication" - dedication of staff and players to creating a quality environment.
We all know that, depending on the desire factor, the human body and spirit can defy almost anything (even if the opposition is incredible).
