Have any sorcerers chosen to pass up the fifth rank of Disarm Weapon in favor of another CMan for defensive purposes?

I plan on just maxing out feint and cunning defense, but that's only because the critters I hunt don't disarm.

cdef, feint and sstrike for me. the last one is for solo bandits although i could probably use those points elsewhere. nelemar/OTF I shield/brawl, in scatter shield/runestaff

I preferred cdefense over the other selections. Was quite happy when that was implemented.

Seems like if you're going to be hunting things that disarm enough that you want to spend the huge points required to train in CM to defend against it, you might as well just put those points in brawling & shield use... No more disarm.

except runestaves might come with runestaff-specific abilities, or RP-wise a shield is ruled out. sorcerers training in CMAN is not unusual post-cap. Plus, shield/brawl is so 90s.

Yeah. Plus CMan ranks also provide some defense against creature maneuvers; it might be a desirable post-cap skill even if there were no such thing as Disarm Weapon.
I'm thinking about taking 2 ranks in both Subdual Strike and Feint instead of the last rank in Disarm Weapon.

Until you've 1xed Physical Fitness and at least 1xed perception I wouldn't bother with training in CM for purely critter maneuver defense.
As for runestaves vs brawl/shield, it's only recently that they bothered to make any sticks worth carrying around. Runestaves have come a LONG way since their initial release. Hell, even the formula for enchant DS was modified not too long ago to make them more appealing.

That's true and, of course, I have. But we also recently discovered that CM counts double in creature maneuver defense when in defensive stance as compared to perception. So if you're weighing training 1x in CM against 2x perception, that's something to think about.

Agreed. That was valuable informs the GMs parted with. Perception was always among my favorite skills, though. It's fun to watch the sneaky types blow stealth checks

I hear you on the RP factor.
My Capped Shattered Sorc hunts everything in Nelemar and OTF just fine with 1x PF, 1x perception, brawling & shield. Dies maybe 1-2 times per week - and usually to a siren implosion while she's walking through or something equally unfair.
I'm working on CM for cunning defense and probably will train in disarm just because of having no other options, but I can't even imagine having to worry about being disarmed on top of everything else - seems like a major pain.
But to be fair, since silver is so worthless in shattered, I generally just implode everything anyway so none of my stuff is 735'ed - no huge point.
And I will say if disarm weren't a factor at all, I'd absolutely go staff.

Yeah. Disarm always screamed pure vulnerability to me. It has just made sense to avoid it entirely if possible by not carrying anything.

With 52 ranks of CM you can have 3 in Disarm Weapon and 4 in Cunning Defense. Even ten or so ranks of CM before that was enough to solve the problem of Nelemar disarms outside of the occasional open roll of doom. It's the RT that gets you; a solid hit with Disarm Weapon drops your runestaff and puts you into 20 seconds of RT.
