I know quite a few of us here have children. So what are some of the cute/silly/disturbing things your young children have done? Post pictures!
My daughter (3) just came to me, spitting and telling me "Yucky Play-Doh, mommy", and then decides to throw up all over my shirt. Aparently she found a small piece she dropped while playing with it, and I missed cleaning up, and decided to see how it tastes.

awww...this morning my three year old came home from spending the night with her dad. I decided to take the morning to catch up on my sleep, so when they came home I was actually still in bed. She came into my room, climbed into bed and said, "momma i miss you sleeping."
i miss me sleeping too.
There are actually joys involved. :?:
Just kidding... Cat, your daughter is a cutie.

A new family moved in next door with a four month old baby boy. Kiara loves to mother him, she puts his pacifier in when he cries for it, brings him toys, when he is laying down, she lays down next to him. It is so cute.

Thanks Cat! My little girl is 5 months old today. The time has flown by so fast.
So far she only drools out her food/milk and almost always spits up after she nurses. She doesn't seem to get sick after I feed her rice cereal and applesauce. Maybe she's trying to tell me something?
What's funny is me and daddy were just talking about the taste of Play Doh the other day...he was wondering why I never tasted it before.
Edited to represent the facts correctly. :P

 I don't remember ever eating Play-Doh either! Time does fly, I cant believe she's 3 already, pretty soon.. She will be answering your questions with valid answers and you'll cry :( That happened to me the other say when I said "Do you want to go outside and play?" and she said "No.", and actually meant it.
Oh.. and 5 months is about the right time for baby food, and if she's spitting up the milk, it's definatley time. Try the gerber Tender Harvest, they're fantastic.

She's actually been eating rice cereal for a month now. I just introduced her to applesauce...dutch apple dessert to be exact. (her mommy's favorite :P) It's cute to see her get so excited when that purple or pink bowl comes out and she just can't wait to eat.
A week ago I tried to give her oatmeal and she hated it. She was so upset she cried until I started nursing her and wouldn't let me give her babyfood again for the rest of the night even though I mixed up a big bowl of rice cereal for her. :sniffle:
I was sad when she went from newbie diapers to 8-14 lb ones...I can't imagine how I'm going to make it through all her growing pains. I think they pain me more than they do her. It's not fair! Why do they have to grow up so fast?
And your daughter is aDORable...do you have any pics of her when she was itty bitty that you could/would post??

Try vegetables soon though, she'll lose the nutrients from breastmilk if she's nursing less.. and she'll need to get them somewhere.
Pictures of my daughter when she was born are a little depressing. I have an inside issue that needs to be surgically corrected, and it forced her to be born C-section at 28 weeks. She spent the first 76 days in the NICU. She was in the newspaper as Virginia's tiniest baby. I wont post NICU pics with her on a venelator, but here's one of her after she came off of it, but was still on oxygen. Thats her daddy. She was a little over 3 pounds there. (She was 2.04 pounds when she was born)

So tiny Cat....and sooooo cute!!
Jordyn still drinks breastmilk when I'm at work, then she gets her cereal and applesauce when I get home. After that it's a quick bath cuz all that food makes her sticky-faced then it's time to nurse again. I just notice that she only spits up after she nurses. She can eat tons of babyfood and not spit up at all. The other day she grabbed the spoon out of my hand and I wanted to cry.
Which veggies do you think are good to start with and when should I start giving her meats?

Well... Guinevere got breast milk, but it was pumped, she never actually nursed because she was too little to so I had to pump... and pump... and god that was annoying. But I do remember them telling me that she would have problems nursing if she got used to the bottle, (Because they have to suck harder on the breast than a bottle nipple) so you might want to ask her doctor and you might want to stop nursing and just pump if she spits up from nursing. Spitting up is a sign that their tummy's not right, if shes spitting up she could have an upset tummy.
Start with any veggie in the tender harvest line (I really recommend these, they're all natural and don't taste like crap) They probably have more now but when she was eatting baby food it was a brand new line. according to my doctor DO NOT FEED THEM MEAT! It doesnt have any nutrience in it that their body needs right now, they can get it all from veggies. Baby food meat isn't healthy for them (hard to digest) and to just avoid it. but again, ask your pediatrician :)

we had one really unexpected joy.
my sister gave us a video on sign language for infants.
we decided to give it a try. we started with 3 signs at six months - eat, milk, and more.
let me stress here that it is a lot of work at first (three or so months without any reward).
and then....
at a little over nine months,
our son said 'milk' with his hands.
in context.
and asked for 'more milk' - with signs
and learned 'eat' the next morning.
and had a 30 word sign language vocabulary before he was one.
I would encourage anyone with an infant and some patience to learn sign language with their child.
To be able to communicate with a preverbal infant really cuts down on the frustration of both parent and child.
Sam is now four and speaks quite well. He has continued interest in sign language. It's still useful to be able to communicate in public or across a room without speaking out loud.

I've heard about sign language for infants, we were too concerned with her health though to teach her things liks that. I was very in tune with her though and always knew exactly what she wanted when.
My baby was a lamb last year, I made it myself! I thought I had a pic scanned but I can't find it now :( She's going to be Dorothy from Wizard of Oz this year, she's facinated with the ruby slippers.

My daughter has developed this facination with water. She loves to dunk all her food in her water. French fries everything is dunked in water and then she eats it. She also likes to spit chocolate milk everywhere. If the sippy cup isn't spill proof she loves to sprinkle the dog with milk or whatever's in the cup. She likes to get one of her wipeys and dunk it in the dogs water bowl and clean the T.v. with it. Ahh yes such fun.
Oh the other night she decided she wanted to condition her hair with katsup. She would have a glob in her hand and then massage it in her hair, it was nice and matted in good. Though, her hair was extra shiney and bouncy after I washed it out. Maybe she's on to something? hmmm

Allynn (pronounced Allen) is 2 years and 4 months. Every day she has some new antic that makes me laugh. I love hearing her say, "I love you sooooo much Mommy!" The funniest was when she was almost 2, fell, hurt her butt and came crying to her daddy and yelled, "Daddy kiss my butt, got boo-boo!"
I love listening to Allynn sing. She sings the Dora songs, Itsy Bitsy Spider, ABC's, Row Row, and it's too precious how she does all the hand movements. She's quite the little entertainer. But nothing beats watching her at her tap and ballet lessons... now that is funny.

I don't know where you are, but here in the San Francisco Bay Area, they are not giving them out unless you meet the requirements set forth by the CDC due to the shortage. :( Granted, in response, my DH got reactions from flu shots the first two times he had them. But it's really unusual for a babe to get reactions from them. And, if they do, they tend to not be full blown flu... rather a reaction to ingredients in the shot... like eggs, etc. Call the pediatrician. :) And, around here, there is some NASTY cold going around. I had it for almost 4 weeks, SIL had it, neighbor has it, Dr's are baffled since cold only supposed to last up to 10 days. Everyone has it seems. Even my daughter had it past 10 days... but wasn't bacterial for antibiotics.
My babe has a history of fever spikes in her sleep, even for teeth coming in, minor cold, you name it. She's had two feveral seizures (sp? yeah, and i is a college grad! lol), been in the hospital before due to fever spikes, etc. And because she's over 23 months old, she can't get the flu shot. Whenever she has a tooth coming in, anything, we have to set our alarm to get up and check her every hour to feel her forehead. Yet, she can't get flu shot. Sucks.
For the record... being the fever queen of babies... dose on the bottle doesn't matter. Call your pediatrician and get CORRECT dose per weight of your kid for tylenol and motrin. Tylenol gets the fever down quick, motrin maintains it low and proper, and they can be given together. Believe me, I've consulted with the best of the best. I'm outgoing as it is, when it comes to my baby, and my natural drive for knowledge and curiosity, I got the low down from the Dr's at Stanford close to here, even. Fevers do spike during sleep, though in my daughter it's unusally odd... and she can't take motrin to keep the fever down (gives her SEVERE stomach pains to the point she screams for hours like a 2 year old with baby collic - which she also had as an infant), she can just take the tylenol to bring it down fast and when it creeps up we have to cool compresses on her pulse points - armpits, base of neck, etc. till time for another tylenol dose. Because, as we also learned, bringing the fever down too fast (like in the old days with a cold shower) causes brain damage or other probs. At her first feveral seizure at 10 mos, was on phone with 911, DH was about to get in cool shower with her and the guy screamed NO!!! It was later explained, can't bring that high of a fever down that fast.
Her first feveral seizure was when she was 10 mos old with 4 teeth coming in, she wasn't even sick. Just teething fever mild for a few days, then went to sleep and it spiked and she seizured in my arms at 3AM. SCARY! I almost fainted. Seizure, scary as hell. We had been following the dose on her infant tylenol drops, come to find out due to her weight, it was like half the dose she should have been having.
Likewise, Allynn had an allergic reaction to carpet cleaning solution we used. We steam cleaned, she rolled over the carpets playing the next day, broke out in hives and all. I'm familiar with allergies, used to get 6 shots a week for allergies. I know them. Treat with anti-histamine. We gave her the benedryl dose per bottle, didn't matter. Again, after trip to doctor, found out she was taking a half teaspoon less than what she should have been because of her weight. Gave her correct dose and within 30 mins she was fine... rash and hives gone.
So.... if there's one thing I've learned.... every dr. visit for wellness checks, whatever... ask the Dr. to compute based on your child's weight the CORRECT dose of motrin, tylenol, benedryl your child should be taking, just in case :)
P.S. if you notice my posts lack in proper punctuation sometimes, like uppercase letters, it's because of severe carpal tunnel and tenonitis, extra keystrokes are sometimes not worth the effort for casual speak, as those i email know :) Been typing as a writer/journalist since teen, GS never helped, then PI work with 20 page reports to crank out.... it adds up. apologies.

yeah, Im pretty sure it's from the flu shot... what sucks though is now im getting it and so is my husband
Shes guaranteed to get them until she's 5 because she was so tiny when she was born. Also. She's likely guaranteed to get them for forever since her aunt manages the doctors office where her pediatrician works. The joys of connections.
We didn't even have to buy formula when she was an infant, we got everything free. that was really nice considering she was on special $32.00 a can shit.

Jordyn was sick for close to three weeks and all the pedia care in the world wasn't helping her get better. What finally helped was running a warm air humidifier while she slept at night. She got better and we stopped running it at night and I could hear that her congestion was coming back this morning.

Yeah... she was only 2.04 pounds when she was born. She was due Dec 12th and was born Sept 21. Whats super cool is my husband and I met on Sept 21, 1997, so she was born on the 4th anniversary of the day we met.
She spent a terrifying 76 days in the NICU, and then another 2 months on an apnea monitor after I brought her home. They were expecting problems with her eyes, respitory system and various other things preemies are succeptible to, but she's absolutley perfect. Shes been given a 100% clean bill of health.
Total hospital bill $168,000.00 + the 6k it cost for the doctor to deliver her. Thank GOD for medical insurance.

Hey, neighbor in Hayward, I'm in Fremont. We were at Hayward Kaiser on Wednesday late afternoon and they had flu shots, they sent some to Fremont Kaiser, too, since Fremont was out. Hayward and Fremont Kaisers said to check the flu shot hotline daily because Kaiser floats around flu shots... for Kaisers that have them, they send them to those that don't... etc. And, it's never known when they'll get them. Dunno if you have Kaiser or not, but apparently the shots are bouncing around and where they weren't one day, might be the next.

Yay a chance to go on about Justin!
Little scamp is now 10 months old and active. He's the biggest flirt I have ever seen! All ladies look out. He flashes those blue eyes and smiles, the little arms go up and he's got you. Going to the grocery store now takes twice as long since the little monkey needs time with his "fans".
One of the cutest things he has done lately is while at ABC's for babies (sponsored by the library, great program) we had just finished singing Old Macdonald when Justin decided he was going solo. He crawled over to the middle of the circle and started to bounce on his bum, waving his little arms and singing lalalalalaaaaa. What a star.
The scariest thing he has done lately is learn to jump out of his crib. He's great on the up...not so good on the down. He can also scale his baby gate and get up on the couch by himself. I need heart medication.

How adorable! My lil guy was a devil for Halloween last year (his first Halloween) ..this year he's going as Captain Feathersword from the Wiggles.
You know, with Halloween coming up we should all take lots of pics (not that we weren't going to anyway..heh) and throw them up to show off our lil peanuts. We'll find another place to put the pics though, one of those picture sites or something so we don't clog up the PC with it. Would anyone be game for that?

Man, I tried to watch the Wiggles this morning with Jordyn and I JUST DIDN'T GET IT AT ALL!!! Jordyn started crying too so I switched to country music videos and she was happy. :P I prefer Stanley myself cuz he teaches us about animals with his Big Book of EVERYTHING. The Wiggles disturbed me and that's about it.

My daughter is weird like that. She doesn't like *most* cartoons but she loves country videos and Trading Spaces. Her daddy told me she even hated PPG and that's one of my personal favorites.

My daughter Brittany just started school, and Friday was picture day. I took the day off to fix her hair up, and to take her in to school instead of having her daddy pick her up.
I figured I had better take one picture of her at home, before going just in case she messed her hair up before the pictures were taken. So here is my little angel Brittany.

Ok. I got you beat. We went to see them live, suite box seats, and my husband and I enjoyed the show more than our daughter did. We know the lyrics to EVERY song. Murray's cute! And you can't be those Aussie accents.

Allynn is all into the new Higglytown Heros, too. I think that's the only show she watches now that I don't much care for. My husband already knows the theme song for it.
I don't like the improper grammer just to make rhymes... ie: "have no fearo!" What the hell is "fearo" other than to rhyme with Higglytown "Hero"! Everytime I watch it, I catch words that are just stupid and rhymes that could have been better. And, they hop inside of eachother, have no functional arms or legs, and Fran the squirrel sounds like an old bitty trying to lose her Fargo accent... her voice grates on my nerves. But, my tot loves them.
Dora the Explorer, Stanley, Wiggles, Blue's Clues, Bob the Builder, Koala Brothers, Bear in the Big Blue House, love em all. Nick Jr. and Disney Playhouse are the bomb. Actually, I had two years of high school Spanish and Dora has refreshed my memory. Allynn also speaks Spanish now, she must have every single Dora video there is. :D

My son prefers 3-D animation to cartoons. He'll sit still for Jimmy Neutron much longer than for Dora. However, that doesn't stop him from announcing to me the name of every show that comes on Nickelodeon, along with some of the characters' names.

I hate to admit, but they really are. My first impression of them was just not great, but when I went to visit my baby cousin last winter, she just loves the wiggles. That's all she would watch. Heck she wouldn't eat unless she could watch the Wiggles at the same time. They're very cute and entertaining. :)

LMAO!!! I actually like it. I would love to see Sparticus (sp?) in a model spread with some sweet looking jersey boxers. You KNOW he's got a bod under that outfit as a gymnist/dancer and underneath his getup, he's a sugar. The only thing I really don't like about that show is the candy kid puppet. I don't think it's good for kids to watch a show in which there is one who is addicted to candy and has to have candy as the only thing he ever eats. They should have made him addicted to fruit or veggies. :D

Actually, Spongebob lives in a pineapple under the sea. It happens to be in bikini bottom. lol I love Spongebob, it has hidden adult humor that most tots would never even catch - my 2 year old doesn't know what a bikini is, and "bikini bottom" is not promoted in the show. But there are a lot of good lessons Spongebob goes through. After we watch shows, we talk about what happened. IE.... why was Spongebob sad? What did Mr. Crabs do that was naughty? etc. It's always a learning experience. Now, South Park, NO, my daughter will not see that. :D As long as there's no violence and lesson to be learned, or something educational in it, it's ok.

They are always on eBay if you can't get them through the venue or ticketmaster/whatever. But the Wiggles were definately NOT sold out here in the Bay Area when we went. And what was cool anyway, is that the Wiggles went up into the stands and visited people who were sitting far away, etc. You wouldn't believe all people who had roses for Dorothy and the moms in love with gifts for the guys!!! They were awesome in concert, they even had adult humor thrown in. Captain Feathersword doing his Cockadoodle Do song as Ozzy, Prince, Britany Spears, etc. impersonations was hillarious. He is an extremely talented person.
Fortunately, the company my husband works for owns a suite at the Oakland Arena. Only a few of the agents have kids and want dibs on the kids shows. My husband isn't an agent, so he doesn't get dibs on the big concerts. But through his work we've been to a lot of kids shows... just Friday we saw Disney on Ice.
My daughter would never sit through a show in an actual seat. At the suite, we have 12 seats, a bar with barstools, couches, chairs, our own bathroom, our own waitress, etc. so when the kids get bored they can run around. If it weren't for that, we wouldn't go. My sister tried to take my daughter to see Sesame Street live in regular seats as a b-day present, it lasted for 10 minute spurts of sitting and then standing and running off.

LOL!!! The irony. But come on now. Tots don't catch that. You know, adults see stuff that is there. Kids, if they are innocent, don't know. Spongebob to my tot is always a learning lesson. Pizza episide, goes through hell to get the pizza delivered to his customer. Driving school episide to drive a boat, fails, and goes through hell to make it up. Etc. Kids don't have the minds adults do. Crabs ... Mr. Crabs, Spongebob's boss .... they don't know that stuff. That's why I love Spongebob, it entertains me, and is a lesson for my babe on her terms that she understands. Very clever.

My son is almost twenty-one months and the light of my entire life. I can't count how many smiles he brings to my face every day!
I'm blessed (and cursed) with the ability to stay at home with him every day. Yesterday, we had our first real conversation, and it went something like this:
Me: "Michael, did you poop? Cause you stink!"
Michael grabs his diaper and says with a smile, "Nope!"
Me: "Are you fibbing?"
Michael looks up, points his finger at me and says, "Ah Ha! Kidding!"
Also, every kid (up to an undetermined age) is still called "Baby". So we're at the mall a few days ago, walk by a few a group of tough-looking wanna-be teenagers, and my son is freaking out, pointing, and saying, "Baby! Baby! Baby". Yeah, I bet the machoism didn't find the humor in that dig on their maturity level.
My son LOVES the Teletubbies and Finding Nemo. All day long we talk about "Winkie Winkies" "Tele Teletubbies" and "Uh Oh".
Amazingly enough, he can identify 24 out of 26 letters in the alphabet (P he calles 9 and U he calls V) and his numbers from 1 to 9. Driving down the street is like playing Bingo. From the backseat you'll hear, "B!" as he sees a big B on a sign. Followed by "7!" as we drive by a 76 station.
I'm a tad bit worried that all colors are 'yellow', since my biological father was color blind. If I understand the charts correctly, there's a huge possibility that my son is as well. I'm trying not to stress or overreact or push him, I just want to be aware and catch a problem (if there is one) as soon as possible so I can better help him where he might need it.
Here's one of those pictures that I just took the other day. You know, the kind where he'll hate me for posting it on a public forum and not speak to me for a week when I show it to his first girlfriend.

One of my favorite stories from my daughter's "kids say the darnedest things" catagory ...
She was 3 and a half, about. It was March. She'd had green cookies at day care.
Well every parent knows what green food coloring does to a child's bathroom experience.. so i went in when she called me to help her clean herself up, and I glanced in the toilet...
Me: "Why is your poop green (was meant to be rhetorical)?"
Her: "(sing-songy) Cause it's almost St. patrick's day!!"

...and why wouldn't you know she was pooping green to celebrate St. Pattys Day?? :duh:
One of my favorite "kids say the darndest" is the story about the kid who said "Holy shit...a talking duck" or something like that.
I also saw something on "Worlds Funniest Videos" where this toddler is throwing a tantrum on the livingroom floor and the mom walks away and goes into the kitchen. Seconds later, you see the same kid walk by the kitchen, lay on the ground, and resume his tantrum...it was hilarious.
