I seem to be a magnet for charity case animals, which is OK, I prefer them to charity case people. I pulled up next to the dumpster at our condo complex yesterday and was cleaning out my car, when I found this itty-bitty grey kitten just sitting there. She's dirty, she's way too skinny and I think she's only about nine weeks old. The weird part is that she's been spayed (I can see on her belly where she had the surgery, and the sutures have even been taken out) so she's obviously someone's pet. I took her to the humane shelter and they scanned her for a microchip, but she didn't have one. I didn't have the heart to leave her there, and they said if I'd take her home they'd microchip her for free. So they put it in her and I'm taking her to the vet in an hour to get checked over. We were going to name her Dumpy.

That's a cute cat. It means a lot coming from me since I'm a dog person.

It reminds me of a cat story of my own. I was 9 years old and I told one of my friends I wanted another cat. So he comes to my house with a stray cat with the biggest balls I've ever seen. We kept him and named him Sylvester. Good luck with your new pet, but cats usually have multiple homes too.

She is very cute.....please don't name her dumpy. Do you think you should put some posters up by the condo dumpster you found her in? As you said she is someone's pet.

We already have three cats. Thank god I'm not single, or I'd be a single woman with four cats. They're indoor cats, I don't let them outside - too much chance they could get run over by a car, get some weird cat disease, whatever. People who are irresponsible with their animals make me sick to my stomach, I'm not sure how hard we're going to look for the owner - though we did ask the neighbors.

Awww. Too cute! :)

I think there's a sign in my front yard that is visible only to cats. I believe it says something like: "Come on in. There's a bunch of suckers living here."

Still, I wouldn't trade my feline folk for anything!

Also, our other cats have weird names. The siamese is named Turbo, the calico is named Pijamas (PJ for short, though we just call her "fat one",) and the orange tabby is named Cholulah (like the sauce). But hey, I'm open to suggestions. Let's hear 'em!

I had cats growing up. Then my stupid little brother got allergic to them and we had to give them away.

Now I'm with my girl and she's a dog person.

Oh well.

Tank.

Little cats need big egos :)

She's adorable, by the way.

Kittens are the best, you have no idea how excited I get when I go into a pet store and look at them. I turn into 'super girly' mode. We have a poodle right now that would literally kill any cat we brought into this house and I really have no chioce in the matter, so until I'm done with college and can afford my own place, I'm stuck with Buford :( But, it really does make me happy that you brought Dumpy into your home, fatten her up!

She's so pretty!

As for the owners, are you really convinced they're irresponsible? You can't know for sure what happened. Last winter I had my kitty in my arms when I got out of the car and I slipped on an ice patch and fell (but luckily, I didn't lose memory!). It made me drop the cat and she could have run away further than she did. If someone had found her and kept her thinking I was irresponsible, it would have broken my heart.

I guess it's a hard decision to make. Maybe they're irresponsible and it would be terrible to give them back the cat, maybe they're not irresponsible and mad with grief.

Hehoo, i'm allergic to cats, nice find though.

Um, how about Snowball or Napolean for names. I dunno, just brainstorming here :blah:

You're right, Adhara, we don't have any way to know what happened. Jake went ahead and made a little flyer with the pictures I posted and we're going to put them up by the dumpster where I found her and in the clubhouse. I just took her to the vet, and they said she's in pretty good health, albeit skinny. No weird discharge or anything, she just needs to eat.

I could always name her Mary-Kate (snicker)

I know what you mean. Felix escaped yesterday and didn't come home for 12 hours (he doesn't have a collar) so I was pretty worried that he'd be hit by a car or someone would find him and take him.

Cat dander makes my nose stuffy and my eyes swell up.

They have stuff for that. Like, humidifiers.

I know someone whose mother went to Peru and just HAD to try the guinea pig. She came back and gave my friend a tiny cooked and curled up hind foot, that my friend put in a clear plastic case on cotton to display it. I have weird friends with weird mothers. :O

Cute kitty!! Glad she found a good home :)

But I must say, the best thing about being pregnant when you own cats? You get out of cleaning the litter!

Very cute Spun! I am allergic to cats, but we have an outdoor one named Kato (He he, We found him during the OJ trials) He refused to stay inside, but he always comes in to get fed and pet and then runs back outside. On a plus side we never have to worry about mice or the occasional bird. He is grey too, your kitty looks just like he did. I hope you get to keep him.

I want a puppy.

Well, posters are up, so far no one has called to claim the little thing. The vet said she's too skinny for even a kitten, so we've been making sure she eats a few times a day after running around a little.

Also, we decided to name her "Dumpling."

Your kitten looks wonderful. I'm having jealousy-induced seizures over here. Congratulations on a truly lucky find!
