Posted on the officials but I know a lot of you don't read those so ...
A few of us were lamenting the lack of any seasonal trends and cultural fashion promotion lately so we've decided to take it upon ourselves to provide it! Our aim is to hopefully form a collaboration of CHEs, MHOs and other interested parties to make Elanthia fashionable again! We've already approached a few of the obvious organisations/people but if you feel this is something you might be interested in then please contact either myself (Rohese) or Riend and we'll bring you on board the planning process.

Riend being Jhynnifer on these forums!
I know I'm really excited about this concept. Years ago Ta'Illistim used to be the center for culture and fashion in Elanthia and unfortunately the emphasis has been lost through various means. We've been discussing this idea off and on for a while now and think we could really bring this back and enhance it further. You live on the frontier where mud and dirt would ruin the beautiful gowns that are so fashionable on the cobbled streets of the Shining City? Well now you have your frontier fashion as well as your fashion east of the Spine! Whether you want to jump in and bury yourself in this project, or have just a little bit of interest definitely do not hesitate!

There used to be a good few number of MHOs of this sort, wasn't there? Elanthian Elegance being the primary one I remember, but there were also race/culture specific ones as well.
Did they all die out?

Unfortunately EE did fall to the wayside as many of it's members moved on to bigger and better things, and this is definitely something we'd love to see brought back... but we also think that this group could be larger than that, a collective or a thinktank open to everyone interested.

I'm looking into bringing EE back as part of this.

The first thing that comes to mind is the day willow hall had cobbling supplies available to purchase. If that could be re-created we could do that at the cobbling warehouse.. in any town.. let people purchase the materials they want, have some fashion-knowledgeable people help them design, and then volunteer cobblers make them

This is definitely something I'd love to see houses pick up. We're also looking at doing our own versions of Lord Chalat's old seasonal fashion discussions, if you remember those?

I do remember those. Was that separate from the player submitted outfit contest where they made a bunch into outfits and auctioned them off? I horrifically overpaid for gwens submission for reasons. Good times though

Yes. Chalat would show up ever 3-4 months and there would be a bit of rp where he'd go over what the fashions for the season would be, colors, sleeve-styles, fabrics for day wear and evening wear.

House Sylvanfair ran that as a joint event with Willow Hall so it's definitely something we can look to do again in the future.

Chalat's talks were run by Itzel where she set the fashion trends for the season and set us all scurrying off to mob merchants for pretty things. The outfit contest I think you're referring to was run by Valyrka when she took over with a view to holding seasonal fashion shows/auctions but we've not had one since.
We're looking to bring back the Chalatesque sessions and I'm certainly keen to host regular fashion shows of PC designed outfits once we're up and running! If I can get EE operational again, I'll maybe look into getting a prop walkway made if that's what people would like to do.

Good luck with this, ladies. May all your fashion dreams come true.

Would any fashionistas be willing to donate an hour or two of their time in early october? I was thinking an hour or two assisting people design costumes.. work out costume ideas, design different parts of it.. just general assistance. Followed by a merchant doing some alteration work on costumes? I was thinking early october so people could prep for EG and/or show off costumes outside of EG. I was thinking a 2 day event, day one costume prep and alterations and day two a masquerade ball and the best 3 costumes get an altered whisper mask prize.

I'd be more than happy to help with that Japh, either with EE or Sylvanfair, or both! I'll add it to the agenda for our "Fashionable in 5115" event on the 24th May (shameless plug). Come along and persuade all the fashionistas to help.

Thank you to everyone who came yesterday, it was a great turnout and a very lively discussion. These were the main points:
Riend and Rohese to introduce seasonal trends on both sides of the Dragonspine starting with "Summer in the City" (date/s and location/s to be decided) and incorporating ideas from interested parties.
Host a fashion show later in the year to allow participants to show off their fashionable creations from the season. Perhaps collaborate with CHE/MHOs to arrange a GM merchanting session for the event.
Consider doing salon make-over sessions for a small consultancy fee. Participant gets to keep their new look (outfit, accessories, make-up etc.)
Arrange a thrift sale of fashionable donations or perhaps even sell some low-priced items from a cart (with help from CHEs/MHOs)
Set up a low cost order and delivery service of make-up items.
Organise some social events to dress up for!
Let Riend (Jhynnifer) or I know if you wish to join our googlegroup!

For those that missed Roh and Riend's talk today on summer fashion trends and are interested, this is the elven perspective. I'll let Riend post hers if she wishes to :)
LADIES
Summer is a time for light, airy fabrics. Raw silks, chainsil and organza predominate with heavier damasks for evening or formal wear.
Day gowns should be simple in design with the option of adding coordinated layers for a more structured look.
Evening gowns are tending towards more volume but mostly around the skirt and hemline if the figure allows. Bodices and corsets should minimize the waistline wherever possible.
Ornate embellishments such as embroidery or beadwork should be avoided this season, allowing the quality of the fabrics to speak for themselves. Simplicity is key.
Necklines are low but modest, with a trend towards the use of scarves or even bib necklaces and pectorals.
The overall silhouette is soft and naturalistic, with accessories in contrast.
With the fabrics tending towards the paler and more neutral shades, the focus should be on making strong statements with jewellery and shoe adornments.
Natural elements such as shells and pearls are popular this season, use them to full effect with metallic settings. Comb those beaches!
GENTLEMEN
The men will be relieved to hear that thin leather is in for trousers, worn snugly, although some may wish to opt for the more comfortable chamois or suede for less formal occasions.
Outerwear should co-ordinate, with clean lines and leather trim, or simply long-sleeved tunics in a lighter fabric for those warmer days. Ramie linen and silks are prevalent.
Lengths are longer this season, seeing more knee-length coats for evening wear and day jackets tailored over the hip.
Belt buckles lend themselves to touches of frivolity for ceremonial functions with elaborate motifs or insignia being on display.
Boots are tall, with a preference for capped or pointed toes and in more sturdy materials such as granulated or nubuck leathers with the emphasis on the visible grain pattern.
Adopting the female fondness for natural elements, accessories should be subtle with a nod towards nautical and maritime touches.

Calling on Fashionistas! I am hoping to get a few volunteers who would be willing to come out to the Alabaster Spire October 12th in the evening and help people design costumes. I'm hoping to have a 2-3 hour window where people can come out and go over what they want their costume to be and we can brainstorm. What items might they need? What alters might they need? Can we help design alters? Find items for costumes or just suggest items they might want to get? That sort of thing. If you are able to make it that night, please let me know!

Me, too. I closed at work and my laptop just got back from the shop so I'm still trying to get it back to pre-fubared. Hope it went well!
