Not sure if this is the right folder for this thread. I apologize if it's not, but since I've come back, my three friends who came with me and I have all been running into the same problem. The training spreadsheet is suuuuper crashy in all of our versions of Excel. Different versions. One Office 2000, one 2007, and two 2013. Has anyone else experienced this, or have any advice on how I might fix it? I haven't seen any error messages to even diagnose what's causing the crashes. It just freezes, stops responding, and then crashes Excel, seemingly sporadically.
This is the version of the spreadsheet we're all using:

I can tell you the spreadsheet absolutely does not work with Office 2013. I am simply not good enough with the macros to update them to work with the changes they made in that release. I am not sure why it would be crashing in 2000 and 2007 though honestly I only have 2010 to work with it in. What error(s) are you getting in the earlier office versions?

Couldn't tell ya for sure on the earlier office versions, sorry. I'm one of the two using Office 2013. Actually, most everything does work and calculate properly. It just...crashes the program randomly. From the description of the two using 2000 and 2007, they sounded like they were experiencing the same thing, the program just closing and re-opening to try to recover data, but I can't say for sure.
Edit: I'll see if I have a copy of 2010 lying around that I can install to see if that solves the issue in my case. Thankya.

It's been a while since I've taken a look at the underlying VB to the spreadsheet. Truth be told, the VB is not overly convoluted or complex. A lot of the code is actually updating the status bars on the bottom while the spreadsheet updates itself (back when it took time for computers to do excel) I do have a backlogged ask to do a complete revamp of the spreadsheet cover to cover, confirm the equations with the knowledge base (looking at you Mark), etc. However, I'm trying to finish a ranger guide, rework on my sorcerer guide, I've had tons of people asking about a paladin guide, and I got a new job basically semi-professionally making spreadsheets, getting married,blahblahblahblahimadirtytrampblahblahblah.
There is no specific VBA that would cause your spreadsheets to lag. Microsoft has devoted incredibly limited resources towards further enhancement of VB ever since Excel 2003, as further Excel automation restricts sales of Access and Sharepoint.
Anywho... The spreadsheet functions properly in 2013. Allow the spreadsheet to run in compatability mode, and do not update the file extension to xlsx. Also, if you're working off of 2010 and 2013, Macros are natively DISABLED out of the box (yeah, they're REALLY trying to phase them out). To enable them:
Also, further research showed that 2013 doesn't come with VBA natively installed, it's actually an additional package you need to 'unlock'
•[1]. Open Control Panel;
•[2]. Uninstall a program;
•[3]. Right-click Office program to select the Change menu item;
•[4]. Click Office Shared Features to see if Visual Basic for Applications is available.
If you can give me any info about the crash reports, I should be able to further help you.

Found my old Office and installed it (2010). So far, so good, so you may be on the nose with the VB package. I DO know for sure all four of us (my three friends and I) have the exact same VB package installed, so it could feasibly be that there's a problem with that which was causing the crashes for all of us. If Office 2010 packages its own, and it's not using the one that was crashing us, that may explain the stability. Like I said though, the problem was very sporadic, so I'm going to play with it for a while, see if the crashes start happening again. I'll report back if they do.
Thanks very much for the help guys. I appreciate it!
