I'm thinking about returning since GSIV is now free to play. I have rolled up a little Sorc for now until I can find the person / persons that purchased Kaledor and Darnog from me.
Looking for:
Cntrille (was my dad in GSIII).
Carthington (my old sorc buddy)
Greentide (my old sorc buddy)
Celtic (So I can blow off his arms again)
Bassette (if that is how you spell her name) LOL
Vipra (Crazy lady)
Kerebus (Buddy)
Lissa (Best Emapth around)
Thailor (I think I still owe him some money)
Mustafa (Like to pick his pockets again)
Starsnuffer (So I can hunt the Dhe'nar like I did in the past, as fun hunting easy pray)
Oh and if I can get Kaledor back I promise I won't malestorm the front gate anymore...

Welcome back.
Greentide rerolled to Blueland and then eventually disappeared.
Thalior and Starsnuffer sold out ages ago. Celtic too I think. That or banned.

Dang :( I sold out ages ago too. Trying to find my old buyer... :( I hate to have to re-level a Sorc. :(
Does the old pin numbers still work that are attached to the characters?

Starsnuffer is still actively played from time to time, but as was said, it isn't the original character so I wouldn't KOS if you run across him.

Starsnuffer (So I can hunt the Dhe'nar like I did in the past, as fun hunting easy pray)
Only two names I recognize... and see with any sort of regularity around the lands. Apparently Starsnuffer isn't with their original player anymore, so you probably shouldn't KOS. No idea about Mustafa.

As it has been stated, Starsnuffer is not whom he once was. That being said... I'd gladly provide a list of Dhe'nar, specifically from the Obsidian Tower (my characters name included), that you are more then welcome to try and "hunt". We could use some entertainment.

What level were your two characters in GS3 when you sold them? If they were only like 30 or 40 or so and didn't get any higher, they aren't going to be nearly as "powerful" as they would have been considered back then.

Kaledor was 86 at the time sold
Darnog was 60
As for hunting I had no issues at level 86 vs all but a few... even multiples. Just have to get access to him again. :)

At the time of sale Kaledor was 86 I believe. Had no issue killing anyone then. :)

If unleveled since sold, your 86 will be 63 now and your 60 will be 50. I'd say worth finding if you can.

Tons of people are at the level cap now and a lot more are over 63. It'll be a little harder.

Back in the day Dhe'nar heavy hitters were only Starsnuffer and Celtic... they were not that hard to kill. Then again I had levels on them and hunting buddies if needed. i.e. Carthington level about the same as Kaledor again I believe 86... sold out in 1998. LOL

I don't think the pins were ever changed, so yes they should still work. However if you use a pin in an attempt to identify if the character is still around, be very clear in your communications to SIMU that you are not claiming current ownershop of the character if it was transferred to another player. The PINs are designed for that purpose, and if there is any misunderstanding SIMU will likely not be happy with you.

Means hunting would be harder... :( I sold my Dhe'nar longsword and 7x crit padded armor... so he would be stripped down some.
Never thought I would be interested in playing a text based game again.

Hunting won't be harder at all.
I suppose there are a lot more tricks that critters can pull now as opposed to then, but you'll get used to it.

The idea was to find if 1) Character still being played 2) To contact the owner 3) Claiming ownership, I wouldn't do that, would purchase the character back if I can 4) If not, re level... which would suck

I'm not saying you would try to steal the character, just advising that you ensure that SIMU would have no possible reason to think that...good luck.

I'm sure others have chimed in already, but none of these people still play, or at least not actively. Vipra might still be around in some form, Mustafa and Kerebus I haven't seen in years...I think others have already commented on the rest, and their assessments are correct.
I'm noticing a tone of pvp-mindedness in your posts, you should know that they are a lot more strict about that sort of thing now-days. Nobody hangs out at north gate anymore, and I'm not sure if Maelstrom would work the same, but imploding in town would not be a good idea. "Hunting" Dhe'nar would also not be a good idea, assuming you even could have a snowball's chance against most of them now, you would likely just get banned for non-consensual pvp.

It is a LOT harder to kill another player 10+ levels higher than you now than it was in GS3. Like, practically impossible for most normal attack methods.

We always RPed the pvp out. Not sure based on what I have seen so far if anyone still RPIng. As for snowballs chance, remember I was 86 most of them were equal or 10+ levels below. Again we RPed the fighting, so won a lot and lost some. Was extremely fun hunting them. Hence why I had a Dhe'narrow logsword, only pulled ot out when hunting. If it is still on the character. We were a hard core RPing group in the 90's.
if the spells changed might be a slight learning curve.

You're welcome to try... it would be entertaining to see a 86 try to take down a post-capped character. Hell, even capped I can't even hit Jeril too badly, unless I did something like 515 917

I was referring more to the change in the combat system. You get an inherent penalty attacking things 5 and 10 levels over you. 10+ is a super stiff penalty. I recall my rogue at lvl 60 trying to hit a warrior at level 73 with sniping ranged...the warrior was standing there with no weapon or shield out, in offensive stance, and my AS was about 250 points over his DS at the time. I shot 10 crossbow bolts at him before I gave up...he evaded/dodged all 10.
There is still RP to be found, and if both sides consent to the pvp it is all fair game. I was specifically talking about the differences in the combat system between gs3 and 4.

That was still the same back in the day. Not sure what others are talking about trying. Again we are it out. I guess some do not understand it. Then again in GS3 no other sorc was higher level than I was at the time I sold.
I figures there was a difference in the combat systems since I don't think they are still using role master as they dud in GS3.

If you sold in '98 there were a LOT of sorcs higher level than 86.

Not only that. The combat system has been tweaked in various ways pretty much every year since...the revamp of the level difference scenario is a little more recent.

not for sorcs. flip a disk full of junk, open 720. a single 1 round stun from debris will be instant death.
sniped a 100 ranger this way as a level 65 sorc a year back
Oblivion did this to cruel effect in Shattered but my ranger Jaeden eventually overcame him by 616 from hiding

Notice where I said "most normal attacks"
Open 720 with a bunch of debris in the room works off of a different mechanic. Might as well say hand them an unlocked scales box and tell them there's a prize inside.

That doesn't even work anymore, the disk thing. It is a lot easier to kill people when they don't expect it though.
