I remember the rage in Landing during hunting groups.

People standing on the trapdoor saying JUMP, and yelling at people, seriously e-raging, over a 1-2 second delay, when nobody knew it didn't matter. They thought instantaneous simultaneous jumping was the only way to drop it.

I remember when I was the first person to level up in GemStone -2. Back then it cost $300/hour to play and the sprite quest teleported you into OTF, plus 312 hadn't been implemented yet so Kaedra would fog to you and then just cry. I got to level 1 by throwing away shaalk-hilted mithril claidhmores (which were dropped by thyrils in those days) and as a reward the GMs retired my character as an NPC, although because of character limits in NPC strings they had to change his name from Universal Surveillance Thrak to Raging Thrak.

Those were the days.

My best memories were tree spirit parties, some old empath (20 trainings maybe?) would bind everything and we'd all get our hits in. There was this warrior named Korum or something like that with some fancy krodera full plate who would help us beat everything up.

I remember that. When I came back a decade later, I took a noob to ai attic to hunt wraiths but none ever spawned. Then I was like, "Hmm, it looks like they remodeled up here..." Then someone told me they'd moved them. The noob probably thought I was retarded. He was right, but still.

I remember troops of militant empaths loudly catfighting over people's wounds in TSC at all hours of the day. :P

I remember when you could usually find a few people hanging around Taskmaster Klidel in the Warrior's Guild looking to do reps or help out with others. There'd usually be a community set of heavy training plate or two laying on the ground.

My first "script" I ever made was travelling from the middle of the 3 rooms to the pawnshop, and then one back. I'd gather up all the armor on the ground and sell it repeatedly while unfrying. It was surprising how much silver I made that way.

Oh, and to be part of the jerk. I remember hunting lesser shades in a group.

Thanks for the memories!
Of a zillion GemStone memories the one I can still "feel" was the anxiety/panic we felt one night when a friend and I died out in the graveyard and all our things dropped and we were moments away from decay. FULL showed only 24 people on. Then Krisenfest? (sp) and Roxanne showed up and saved us, and the birth of a cool friendship.

My other best early memory was of Galyden, an awesome GemStoner that died in 2006 in Iraq. We were really young and hanging out in Frith's Inn at the front desk. Some well known old empath was on the ground lamenting her wounds with her legend lover standing over her. I convinced Galyden that kneeling and licking her would help. After deeply kissing her he was instantly slain. I know childish and weird... but it was a memory we reminded each other about for years.

I see both sides of this coin. In a perfect world, someone not wanting to deal with this would be better served by visiting a rogue in their respective town so they don't have to deal with people doing this at the town locksmith. But it's probably the unfortunate circumstance that there just aren't enough rogues around to make this possible all of the time. On the flip side though, I for one find it very tedious to type out everything that goes on at the locksmith, so I will usually script that. But I do feel like an ass doing it when someone else is there (assuming they're not also doing it). I'll usually pause it at that point and either just do it manually or wait for the person to leave before unpausing the script.

What's the issue? Screen scroll? If you're worried about losing your box you don't have to put it on the counter any more and I think some permutation of PAY lets you pay the correct amount without having to hunt for it in the scroll.

I still do things by hand, I don't script the easy stuff. So, I walk in, and I have a bunch of boxes... I'm in the middle of doing the box-in-hand-ring-bell thing, and someone walks in and scripts their thousand boxes, and all of a sudden I can't tell if I actually paid to have my box open or not, so I get frustrated when I go to open one of my boxes, and it isn't picked, and then I ring the bell again, and the message that I have to pay the locksmith gets lost in the scroll, and it's just really damned frustrating.

Maybe I just need to roll up and play a rogue instead of a cleric so I can say a big fuck you to scripters who have no common courtesy anymore.

The GAME creates the useless scroll. Not the scripters. Selling an entire bag gives you a note. With that note, you pay a fee. Selling individually toy do not get the fee. This has ben said before. If you hate it, sucks for you. Squelch it. Stop fucking whining.

From my first GS run through:

having a ranger named Sirtimothy
being called home immediately from school one day for ungodly Genie bills ending my good time 3 months after I started...($18 during prime/$6 during non prime? something like this)
wearing only azure stuff because i thought it was a cool word
being killed by someone after accidentally attacking them and erebor giving me a laen shield which I could have never ever afforded
a baby dragon holed up in one of the towers in the landing killing everyone for a while
a mechanical dragon that flew around and everyone inside had different jobs to do to keep it flying (I had no idea what I was doing)
hearing CoL was SO evil and knowing people who looked drained had a dark secret/sit in at the bathhouse to try and keep people from accessing the CoL area
Big names - FXG, Dagmar, Wisraith, Talon, Erebor, Strom, Phaedra, Lythe, Valeria, etc.

crystal amulets/boot to RR
when OTF turned Teras into a ghost town
PB's Park
Walking with the mob from IMT to OTF the night it opened
The night that the Landing burned (part of a gamewide quest I cant remember the name of)
Being disarmed then having my corpse looted by Shans in OTF
Red Crystals
Pickers blowing traps in the park
When the Inn was converted
Opening of Solehaven (Bathhouse!)
spending way more time in game than I should have...
getting to know some pretty cool peeps (and some asshats too)Look! Free to play is bringing back all the old timers! WB Gan :D

Very depressing.. coming back to the game to find maybe 1 person in the park and him being afk/poor.

Welcome back Gan.. it's been a while.
