Anyone else watched this anime?
I got bored this evening and saw that it was on On Demand so I checked it out. This particular episode (7 - Reason) was basically about how newbies act and are treated in MMORPGs as well as how in-game relationships work. I thought it was a pretty good two lessons for GS4.
How long ago did this show come out? I'm assuming that the designers were looking at EQ's success a couple years back and that's where the idea came from.
Anyway, just curious to see if others have seen more of it and can tell me if it is worth watching the entirety.

It was on Cartoon Network for a couple of months.
From what I watched of it, it sucked pretty hardcore. The entire concept of the show just made my brain want to collapse in upon itself like some sort of supernova of animated stupidity.

A few episodes of the anime came with the .Hack games, the episodes were really mediocre. Supposedly it got better as the series went on but I never got to watch.
The storyline in the game and the graphic novel is pretty cool though. I think thats probably because it was based in the game and there were loads more action.
Playing .Hack made me miss the feel of a graphic MMO and the warm fuzzy feeling of exploring the world for the very first time. Its a primary reason why I'm jumping into EQ2 when it hits.

It was definitely around at least two years ago. From what I could tell, the creators decided "You know what anime has too much of? Action! No mas!" The (meandering) storyline wasn't really difficult to follow, but it was difficult to become engrossed in. Probably because the kid becoming stuck in VR is about the least believable thing ever, and there isn't much else to care about.
If they turned it into a movie, it'd probably work better. Chop out a lot of the extraneous bits, don't have to wait a week between each fraction of the storyline, etc.
The anime episodes that came with the four games are from .hack//Liminality, not .hack//Sign. Personally, I think they suck.
.hack//Sign on the other hand is pretty good, IF you watch it in Japanese with English subtitles. The voice actors that they used for the dubbed version are TERRIBLE in comparison to the Japanese voice actors.
A third series exists, called .hack//Dusk, or "Legend of the Twilight Bracelet." It takes place after the games and .hack//Sign, and (in my opinion) is pretty good. You have to get used to the fact that the characters are rather chibi-like, though.
