I don't know whether this is frugal or annoying.

Unwritten concept and generally accepted practice - You raise the bid by at least 1k until 50k, 5k until 100k, 10k until 250k, by 25k until 1mil, then by at least 50k until 2-5mil, then at least 100k after that.

These ranges are open to interpretation and specific people's preferences, but you don't pull a 1k increase after like 50k because it's rude. You could, however, PM and say 'This is how much I have. Pardon not having a decent up-bid, but I'm strapped for cash. If you accept, great. If not, no big deal.' and then it's up to the dealer to accept or not.

That being said, I laughed at the 1k increase. It was entertaining.

It wasn't anything against the auctioneer and it was suppose to be annoying - not towards the auctioneer though. You're under the presumption that everyone will know what is acceptable and unacceptable in a bidding war. The person I was bidding against was supposed to get annoyed. If he found it rude, then hopefully he/she will hike up his/her skirt in a huff and canter on out. It's a bidding war after all. I was trying something against the person who was bidding on the same item I was, but the auctioneer stepped in and obviously has final say. I'll know in future endeavors on how to bid with the auctioneer.

If all auctions here are under the guise of what you listed as;

I generally take any bid in a reasonable increment, if for whatever reason someone needs other considerations I am easily contactable about offers. Anything over 100k or so would take ages to sell if everyone started bidding in less then 1 percent increases, there is no real set minimum except that general guideline, sorry if theres some sort of misunderstanding or anyone is upset about that.
