So I just got back my initial results from 23andme.

I am H3 (which is mostly Basques/Spanish) and R1b1b2a1a2f which is mostly Irish. I'm also 2.5% Neanderthal. I'm also a distant relative of Jimmy Buffett on my mom's side.

Still only the initial results though. They are refining it and all that mess.

I've definitely considered having this done. Though 23andMe can only talk about 1 specific disease, there is plenty of hard science stating if you have/lack certain specific genes you are predisposed towards certain diseases/conditions. Very useful information.

I've been considering a DNA test, but it's also a bit of a feeling that ignorance is bliss... I really don't want to learn that I'm genetically dispositioned to die in 2 years, have diabetes, heart disease, and late term auto-immune induced death. Most of the DNA tests I've seen advertised test for that stuff, at which point I'd rather just live my ignorant life happily rather than never eating bacon again. I mean, without bacon, what's the point in living?

The one I did, 23 and me, is 199 now. they didn't allow the health reports back then, but now they do. It doesn't really tell you what you are effected by, what you are a carrier of.
