View Full Version : True Healing

Nilandia
10-14-2004, 08:01 PM
In light of a recent thread that dealt with people's perceptions of empaths, as well as mention of a situation where I was involved that was held as a good example of RP while healing, I'll post the log of the incident that was mentioned.

First off, the situation was a continuation of a pair of IC posts on the official boards:

Hide and Seek, Part 1 (http://www.play.net/forums/messages.asp?forum=102&category=9&topic=14&message =3963)

Hide and Seek, Part 2 (http://www.play.net/forums/messages.asp?forum=102&category=9&topic=14&message =3966)

As another note, I'll also say that I RP Nilandia as being exhausted by the process of healing with charms and such, so she was flat on her back a few minutes after the log ends.

Now....

Nilandia is sitting in Oleani's Garden, just returned from a trip to the Nations. While she sits and chats with Rebeya and her new friend Eginer, she sends out her usual thought of greeting and hears a faint call for help from Galesmight. She quickly asks him what the matter is.

[Galesmight (faint - private)]: "I've been in a f-f ... I cannae barely speak, I am so weak, M'lady."

Insert a number of failed attempts to locate

You focus your mind on Galesmight and think: "Gales, you will have to come out of hiding for me to find you."

Insert a few more locates, me running around town.

You focus your mind on Galesmight and think: "I can nae find the place. Where are you?"

[Galesmight (faint - private)]: "South of the bridge ... the Baron's ... off to the west ... I am nae sure."

Insert me running to the temple.

[Niima's Temple, Vestibule]
Massive blued steel double doors have been ornately carved with a border of rolling waves, and a bas-relief of various sea shells and other small sea creatures adorn their surfaces. In the topmost panel of each door, a cresting silver dolphin emerges from a wave. Soft candlelight draws the focus inside the temple, towards the dimly-lit foyer.
Also here: Great Lord Galesmight who is kneeling
Obvious exits: north, out

You walk towards Galesmight.

You kneel down.

You glance with concern at Galesmight.

(Galesmight is bent over with his left arm pulled tightly to his chest. His muscles contract as he violently coughs a trickle of blood from his lip falling to the floor.)

You furrow up your face and wince.

You reach over and gently rest your hand on Galesmight's shoulder.

Galesmight weakly says, "I was ... I was."

A pained expression crosses Galesmight's face.

(Nilandia rests a finger on Galesmight's lips.)

You softly say, "Shh..."

Galesmight coughs.

You softly say, "For now, we need to get those wounds attended to."

Galesmight weakly says, "No ... no you must know befo... too late."

You slowly and deliberately empty your filled lungs.

You nod.

Galesmight makes a wheezing sound.

(Nilandia wipes off the corner of Galesmight's mouth with the hem of her robe.)

(Galesmight holds out his left arm to Nilandia. "Look ... look at it.")

(Nilandia looks at Galesmight for a moment, then turns her attention to the arm held out to her. She looks closely at it, examining for any wounds or anything suspicious.)

(Galesmight digs his other hand the fingers drawing blood from the flesh. You can see a wound with two holes that is surrounded by rotting flesh.)

(Nilandia pales slightly, squinting at the wound. Her eyes flick back to Galesmight's face.)

You quietly ask, "What happened?"

Galesmight weakly says, "I ... bitten and the poison ..." doubles over and gives out a shrill scream, his body wracked in a fit of convulsions.

You clench your jaw.

You gently take hold of Galesmight's hand.

You softly exclaim, "Galesmight! Galesmight, hold on!"

You remove a magenta marillis berry brew from in your clasped doeskin purse.

You place a finger over the stopper of your brew, ensuring that none will spill out, before you give it a good firm shaking. Bits of marillis berry bounce back and forth within a magenta liquid filling the clear glass flask.

Galesmight weakly says, "I do not think I can walk too ... too far Nilandia."

You remove a roll of pristine cotton bandages from in your clasped doeskin purse.

(Nilandia removes the stopper from her brew and pours a small amount on her bandages. She then presses the brew-soaked bandages onto the wound. She then replaces the stopper on her brew.)

Galesmight hisses.

You put a magenta marillis berry brew in your clasped doeskin purse.

You glance at Galesmight.

Rebeya meanwhile was concerned and asked Nilandia what was going on.

Suddenly you have the strangest feeling that you are being watched.
The feeling fades as quickly as it came.

You focus your mind on Rebeya and think: "Galesmight was attacked. Poisoned."

Rebeya just arrived.

Rebeya says, "Oh my Goddess."

Galesmight weakly says, "It burns ... the pain is so awful ... please make it stop."

Rebeya gently wraps her hand around her red heart symbol and murmurs a softly spoken prayer.

Rebeya asks, "What happened?"

Rebeya gestures while calling upon the lesser spirits for aid...
Rebeya gestures at Galesmight.
Galesmight's skin looks healthier.

Rebeya gestures while calling upon the lesser spirits for aid...
Rebeya gestures at Galesmight.
Galesmight's skin looks healthier.

Rebeya kneels down.

Speaking quietly to Galesmight, you say, "The marillis berry can counteract some of the effects and stabilize you somewhat."

Rebeya lightly brushes her fingers over her red heart symbol in a reverent gesture.

Rebeya continues to beseech the gods for mercy and guidance.

(Galesmight releases his grip on his arm and softly clutches Nilandia's squeezing tightly with what remaining strength he has.)

Speaking to you, Rebeya asks, "Who did this?"

You shake your head, totally at a loss.

You softly say, "I do nae know."

Speaking to Galesmight, Rebeya asks, "My Lord, who did this to you?"

You softly say, "Galesmight, hold on. You have to stay awake."

Rebeya frowns.

Rebeya closes her eyes for a moment.

Rebeya says, "If we knew, maybe we could find out what kind of poison they used and..."

Rebeya says, "I don't ... have a better idea of ... you know..."

Rebeya shrugs.

Speaking softly to yourself, you say, "There has to be a way to counteract the poison..."

Nilandia remembers the pattern of two wounds on his arm and thinks of snakes.

(Rebeya holds her hand against Galesmight's forehead.)

You glance at Galesmight.

You quietly whisper to Galesmight, "Luukosian?"

(Galesmight tightens his grasp on Nilandia's hand. He falls against Nilandia, a small bit of blood falling on her knees.)

Rebeya holds her breath.

You glance with concern at Galesmight.

Rebeya says, "Niima, please, we are in your vestibule..."

(Nilandia wraps her free hand around Galesmight's waist, supporting his weight.)

Rebeya asks, "Is there nothing you can do for him?"

(Galesmight nods slowly to Nilandia. He speaks in short raspy breaths, "please ... I need water ... days I do not know.")

Rebeya says, "Water..."

Rebeya stands up.

You nod to Rebeya.

Rebeya just went out.

You softly say, "Rebeya is getting it."

You softly say, "I have some drink, but tis cider."

You softly say, "We need to get you stable first, Galesmight."

(Nilandia glances at Galesmight's arm where she continues to press the bandages to the wound.)

Rebeya just arrived.

Rebeya kneels down.

Speaking softly to yourself, you say, "Possible snakebite. Can nae be good."

(Rebeya places the glass of water against Galesmight lips.)

Rebeya says, "Try to drink some of this."

(Galesmight looks at Rebeya with a hint of fear in his eyes. "I ... can not...")

You take a moment to observe everything you can about Galesmight, storing the details away for possible future use.

Rebeya says, "I swear, it is clean."

You softly ask, "Why nae?"

Rebeya says, "Swear by Oleani."

Rebeya gently wraps her hand around her red heart symbol and murmurs a softly spoken prayer.

(Galesmight pulls downward on Nilandia's hand, the brunt of his weight leaning against her.)

Rebeya asks, "Can you not swallow it?"

(Rebeya tries to pour some of the water into Galesmight's mouth.)

Galesmight weakly says, "No..."

Rebeya frowns.

(Nilandia continues to support Galesmight, but her face begins to show the strain.)

Galesmight coughs.

Galesmight weakly says, "My throat ... it feels as though air can not even pass through."

Rebeya frowns.

(Rebeya holds up Galesmight's arm and studies it.)

Speaking confusedly to you, Rebeya asks, "Tooth marks?"

You nod.

You softly say, "I think so."

You softly say, "Let me see the water, Rebeya."

Rebeya offers you a tall glass of fresh water. Click ACCEPT to accept the offer or DECLINE to decline it. The offer will expire in 30 seconds.

You accept Rebeya's offer and are now holding a tall glass of fresh water.

(Galesmight's arm shakes in her grasp, the muscles unwilling to contract from their position.)

Rebeya asks, "Perhaps... someone should try to suck the poison out? Like they do with snakes?"

(Nilandia dips her fingers in the water and swabs Galesmight's lips with the moisture.)

Rebeya ponders.

Rebeya rummages through a deeply-hooded blue woolen cloak.

You begin to watch Galesmight intently out of the corner of your eyes, while trying not to be too obvious about it.

Rebeya says, "I have to have something in here..."

Rebeya says, "...anything that could help..."

(Galesmight looks weakly into Nilandia's eyes, a hint of fear playing across his own. A small teardrop slides down his hollowed cheeks and across his cracked lips.)

You firmly say, "Galesmight, hold on. Keep talking to us."

Galesmight coughs.

Speaking to Galesmight, Rebeya says, "Tell me about where you were going when this happened..."

Galesmight weakly says, "It's ... it's not safe here ... the others are sure to come..."

Rebeya says, "Better, uh..." She scrambles for the right words. "Tell me about your family..."

You clasp Rebeya's hand tenderly.

Rebeya says, "Something, keep talking."

You trace a sign while petitioning the spirits to bestow their aid with the Major Sanctuary spell...
Your spell is ready.

You gesture.
A brilliant light bathes you as your surroundings blur for a moment...
[Sanctuary]
A grey, swirling mist surrounds you, its tendrils creeping around your feet and twisting into a thick, translucent mass that vaguely forms a curved wall around the chamber. A feeling of calmness and protection passes over you as you sense that nothing harmful may pass the swirling walls.
Also here: Great Lord Galesmight who is kneeling, Rebeya who is kneeling

Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.

You softly say, "Safe now."

Speaking to Galesmight, Rebeya asks, "Please, this may be very important, what bit you?"

(Nilandia shifts her position slightly to reach Galesmight's lips with the water. She moistens his lips with her fingers again.)

Galesmight weakly says, "A ... woman ... a priestess of their order."

Rebeya asks, "A woman?"

You bite your lip.

Rebeya asks, "A woman did this to you?"

Speaking to you, Rebeya says, "There is no possible way this is a natural poison."

You softly ask, "Just the one wound? Are there others?"

Rebeya lightly brushes her fingers over her red heart symbol in a reverent gesture.

(Galesmight nods in agreement, his head barely moving up and down.)

Rebeya fidgets.

Galesmight makes a wheezing sound.

You furrow your brow, probably adding a wrinkle or two in the process.

Rebeya says, "A Luukos priestess, I'd imagine."

You softly say, "I can try to draw the poison to the surface. It will nae be easy."

Galesmight weakly says, "Alone ... in the cavern ... she carried his marks, her ... her features contorted by his will."

Rebeya says, "Perhaps... I can try to scare it out..."

You glance at Galesmight.

Rebeya says, "I don't know if it'll work, or be safe, but I imagine we are running out of time."

You softly ask, "Was it a snakebite?"

Galesmight weakly says, "Please ... no, no it was her who bit me ... please you must remove the flesh before it spreads..."

You furrow up your face and wince.

You nod.

You put a tall glass of fresh water in your clasped doeskin purse.

Rebeya frowns.

Rebeya says, "Let me hold him still."

(Nilandia removes the bandages from Galesmight's arm, tearing the excess off.)

You put a roll of pristine cotton bandages in your clasped doeskin purse.

You nod to Rebeya.

(Rebeya pulls Galesmight into her arms, and holds him gently.)

You softly say, "Might have to."

You softly say, "Galesmight, you need to lie down."

Galesmight winces.

Galesmight weakly says, "I cannae ... my muscles are too tight."

You slowly and deliberately empty your filled lungs.

You nod.

You softly say, "You will need to keep still, then."

Galesmight weakly says, "I cannot even feel your touch anymore..."

Rebeya frowns.

(Galesmight squeezes Nilandia's hand softly.)

(Nilandia squeezes Galesmight's hand in return.)

You remove an engraved grey stone charm from in your clasped doeskin purse.

You remove a diamond-inset ora lancet from in your clasped doeskin purse.

You glance with concern at Galesmight.

Galesmight weakly says, "It ... it must be done..."

You nod.

(Rebeya cradles Galesmight in her arms.)

You softly say, "I can help the pain afterwards."

(Nilandia places her charm over Galesmight's wounds and presses slightly.)

You take a moment to observe everything you can about Galesmight, storing the details away for possible future use.

You think to yourself, "Lumnis be with me..."

(Galesmight softly closes his eyes, his jaw tenses in anticipation of the cuts.)

(Nilandia closes her eyes and begins chanting quietly. She maintains a slight pressure on the charm over the wounds.)

Rebeya sings:

"I didn't break your heart on the bay
Waves broke on the bay."

Rebeya sings:

"They broke on, broke the bay
The rain didn't just break the bay
Baby, darling of mine. The bay,
Broke the rain, caused it to fall upon the bay."

You think to yourself, "Lumnis, let this work!"

(Rebeya tries to do her motherly best to comfort Galesmight.)

>mychar continues chanting, praying silently to Lumnis for help.
Nilandia continues chanting, praying silently to Lumnis for help.

Rebeya sings:

"Bay, bay, bay, fall upon the bay.
Tomorrow we may be gone,
Or the next day, or hey,
Maybe forever never here again.
Besides our song falling upon the bay."

(Nilandia continues chanting, and a slight discoloration begins to form around the wounds.)

(Rebeya continues to hum the tune of the folksong.)

(Galesmight's eyelids flutter as the white of his eyes can be seen, his eyes rolled to the back of his head.)

(Rebeya tries to shake Galesmight softly, then harder.)

Rebeya asks, "Galesmight? Galesmight?"

(Rebeya turns nervous eyes to Nilandia.)

Speaking to you, Rebeya asks, "Is it working? What is happening to him?"

(Nilandia clenches her jaw for a moment, then removes the charm from Galesmight's arm. Swiftly, she makes incisions into the area with her lancet, cutting the rotting flesh away.)

(Galesmight gives out a chilling scream, the pain of the cuts echoing off of the sanctuary walls.)

You close your eyes for a moment.

(Nilandia flinches slightly, but continues to work.)

Rebeya sings:

"Galesmight, Galesmight
Though the night may be long
Though fright may be long
Though the sight may be unbearable to bear."

(Galesmight starts to pant heavily, his breath coming in ragged grasps.)

Rebeya sings:

"Galesmight, Galesmight"

(Rebeya's voice hits a note of urgency.)

Rebeya says, "Galesmight, please, stay awake, talk to me, say something."

(Nilandia removes the flesh and throws it away from her. She examines the wound carefully, checking to make sure she got all of the diseased portion.)

Rebeya anxiously asks, "Galesmight?"

(Galesmight slumps softly to the ground, his breath beginning to return to normalcy.)

(Rebeya graces her left hand against Galesmight's forehead.)

Rebeya says, "He is still warm."

Rebeya tilts her head down.

Galesmight breaks out in a sweat.

Rebeya kisses Galesmight tenderly on the forehead.

Rebeya closes her eyes for a moment.

Rebeya lightly brushes her fingers over her red heart symbol in a reverent gesture.

(Nilandia watches Galesmight carefully for a moment, then turns her attention back to the wound. She cleans her lancet with the hem of her robes.)

You put a diamond-inset ora lancet in your clasped doeskin purse.

Rebeya says, "Please, Oleani, watch over his health, bring him back to a full recovery."

You softly say, "That should remove it all."

You remove a roll of pristine cotton bandages from in your clasped doeskin purse.

(Galesmight blinks softly his stormy grey eyes rolling forward again releasing a blank stare.)

(Nilandia wraps her bandages around Galesmight's arm, covering the area. She ties it off tightly and securely.)

(Rebeya starts to nervously rub at her left wrist.)

Rebeya asks, "Is he ok?"

(Nilandia places the charm once again over the wound and murmurs something quietly for a moment.)

You glance at Galesmight.

You put an engraved grey stone charm in your clasped doeskin purse.

You remove a diamond-inset ora lancet from in your clasped doeskin purse.

(Nilandia cuts the bandages with her lancet.)

You put a diamond-inset ora lancet in your clasped doeskin purse.

Galesmight weakly asks, "I ... I cannae see it ... tis all a b-blur ... are we still safe?"

You softly say, "We are."

You softly say, "Still in the sanctuary."

You put a roll of pristine cotton bandages in your clasped doeskin purse.

You remove a thick compress from in your clasped doeskin purse.

(Rebeya breathes a long sigh of relief.)

Rebeya says, "Thank Oleani."

As Rebeya rubs her red heart symbol it glows momentarily with a soft golden light.

(Nilandia places the compress over Galesmight's forehead.)

Galesmight weakly says, "I ... need a drink, it still aches all over."

You softly say, "It will."

You remove a tall glass of fresh water from in your clasped doeskin purse.

(Nilandia places the water at Galesmight's lips.)

You softly ask, "Can you drink?"

(Galesmight coughs up the water. "I can ... stronger drink, numb ... a bit of the pain.")

You softly say, "I only have wine."

Rebeya rummages through a deeply-hooded blue woolen cloak with a frantic look of loss.

You softly ask, "Rebeya, can you run to the Bronze Boar and get something?"

You put a tall glass of fresh water in your dark green robes.

Rebeya says, "The one time I don't have..."

Rebeya nods to you.

Rebeya stands up.

Rebeya says, "We'll have to leave the sanctuary..."

(Galesmight glances at Nilandia appraisingly and says "The wine ... it will be fine")

You softly say, "Send a Voln thought once you get back."

Rebeya says, "But I think Niima's is safe."

You slowly and deliberately empty your filled lungs.

You nod.

You remove a glass of sylvarraend red wine from in your dark green robes.

Rebeya sits down.

You offer your sylvarraend red wine to Galesmight, who has 30 seconds to accept the offer. Click CANCEL to prematurely cancel the offer.

Galesmight worriedly says, "No ... don't go ... tis nae safe."

Galesmight worriedly says, "I can ... feel the blood in my veins again ... but my arm ... it feels as if it is no longer there."

You take a moment to observe everything you can about Galesmight, storing the details away for possible future use.

Rebeya frowns.

Rebeya says, "Maybe ... it is just temporary..."

Speaking to you, Rebeya asks, "You didn't use any herbs to numb it?"

You softly say, "It may take a while to heal. The poison seems to be quite strong."

(Galesmight leans forward a bit speaking softly, "I ... I found ...")

You listen carefully to Galesmight.

Galesmight takes a drink from his sylvarraend red wine.

Galesmight wearily says, "The priests ... that were terrorizing the town ... the ones we were warned about, I found their passages."

(Rebeya watches Galesmight with interest.)

You shift your weight, trembling slightly.

You quietly ask, "What ... what happened?"

(Galesmight smiles faintly, or at least one that will pass for a smile on his shallow face.)

(Rebeya whispers some quick words into Nilandia's ear.)

Rebeya whispers, "Does he mean Luukos's caves?"

You quietly whisper to Rebeya, "It may be."

Rebeya says, "...you were attacked."

Galesmight wearily says, "She ... led me, not by her own accord, to their caves ... in the Cairnfang forest deep under the ground."

Galesmight takes a drink from his sylvarraend red wine.

Rebeya says, "In the Cairnfang forest..."

Rebeya gets a blank look on her face.

(Galesmight nods to Rebeya, a bit of color slowly returning to his face.)

Galesmight wearily says, "They are how ... they are getting in and out of the cities ... they are ancient and well hidden."

Rebeya fidgets.

Rebeya glances at you.

Galesmight coughs.

You quietly say, "Under the walls..."

Galesmight shakes his head.

You cock your head at Galesmight.

Galesmight wearily says, "No ... no just outside underneath the paths we tread to get to the Landing ... I was not able to find their entrance inside the city."

(Nilandia nods slowly, listening carefully to Galesmight.)

Rebeya whispers, "Have you ever heard of anything like this?"

Galesmight wearily says, "It was in the cavern ... that struck at me sinking her fangs into my flesh ... I was caught a bit unawares exploring the tunnels ... searching the labyrinth to find its exit."

You quietly whisper to Rebeya, "Poisonings, aye. But for something unrelated."

You furrow up your face and wince.

Galesmight takes a deep breath.

(Galesmight pauses and holds his breath shortly before slowly releasing it.)

Galesmight wearily says, "She had the markings ... the ophidian mark on her neck ... and her face resembled a snake ... it was from outside his temple underground that I caught sight of her."

(Nilandia removes the compress from Galesmight's forehead and presses her hand to his forehead. She watches him carefully for a moment, then replaces the compress.)

(Galesmight rubs his arm softly, which hangs limp at his side.)

Speaking quietly to Galesmight, you say, "How are you feeling? Try nae to exert yourself too much."

Speaking to Galesmight, Rebeya says, "The Arkati show their mercy completely. If you will survive, it will be with your arm."

Galesmight wearily says, "I ... I will be alright ... thank you for coming so quickly ... I did not know who else to call Nilandia."

You blush a nice shade of pink.

Rebeya fidgets.

You softly say, "I am glad I could be here. And I am glad Rebeya could be here."

Galesmight wearily says, "I was afraid just to give a thought and find that one of the Alliance would come to finish the job."

You nod.

You softly say, "Good thinking."

Speaking wearily to Rebeya, Galesmight says, "Thank you ... I am indebted, and when I recover know that that the shadows will hold a friend."

Rebeya smiles.

Rebeya nods.

Nilandia smiles slightly.

Galesmight wearily asks, "Do ... you think you could lead me to a room? At one of the inns?"

Rebeya nods.

Rebeya says, "Of course."

You nod.

(Nilandia removes the compress from Galesmight's forehead.)

You put a thick compress in your clasped doeskin purse.

You softly ask, "Can you stand?"

Galesmight appreciatively says, "Nilandia, please take an extra key ... I feel it will be quite a long rest before I can move well enough again."

Rebeya says, "We can help him stand."

Galesmight appreciatively says, "I cannae without yer help."

You nod.

A pained expression crosses Galesmight's face.

(Rebeya takes one of Galesmight's arms and places it around her shoulder.)

(Rebeya places her corresponding arm around Galesmight's waist, and holds it tightly.)

(Nilandia moves to Galesmight's other side and takes his arm around her shoulder, her arm wrapped around his waist.)

Rebeya nods to you.

You nod.

You stand back up.

Rebeya stands up.

Rebeya says, "A bit heavy..."

Rebeya takes a deep breath.

Rebeya nods.

Speaking softly to Galesmight, you ask, "Are you ready?"

Galesmight appreciatively says, "I think I am ready ... it is still hard to see."

You nod.

Speaking softly to Rebeya, you ask, "Ready?"

Rebeya takes a deep breath.

Rebeya nods to you.

Weathered flagstones stretch along the causeway, leading out from the mainland to this tiny isle set with an opal-like jewel of a temple, doors open and awaiting. Every few steps, a silver dolphin is set within a circle, above which sits a glaes-covered oil lamp lighting the way.

Rebeya and Galesmight followed.

You softly say, "Might need to take a back way."

[Solhaven, Tidewater Road]
Splitting off from Tidewater Road just short of where the solid ground ends and South 'Haven's supporting wooden platform begins, a narrow causeway extends out into the Bay. Polished brass railings supported by grey marble dolphins run the length of the isthmus, ending at the doors of a gold-spired limestone temple that stands above the waves half a cable's length out in the Bay.
Obvious paths: north, east, south, west
Rebeya and Galesmight followed.

[Solhaven, Baron's Bridge Road]
The footfalls and rasp of wagon wheels on stone accompanying the traffic from the north suddenly take on a hollow undertones as solid ground and stone roadway are replaced by the timbers and planking of South 'Haven. No less busy than Bayside Road north of the bridge, the smocks and leather aprons of tradesmen are more evident here.
Obvious paths: north, northeast, east, south, west
Rebeya and Galesmight followed.

[Solhaven, Baron's Bridge Road]
Tidewater Road intersects from the west, and the crenellated circle of Lornon Court, lit by the glowing arch of flame, lies just a few paces to the east. Further to the north, lanterns along the arch of Baron's Bridge are visible, while braziers light a conical red and yellow building far to the south.
Obvious paths: north, east, south, west
Rebeya and Galesmight followed.

[Solhaven, Baron's Bridge Road]
Just to the north, Baron's Bridge arches over the waters of the Vornavis Canal, connecting South 'Haven with North 'Haven and Marshtown. A constant flow of townsfolk moves in both directions over the granite span, occasionally delayed by horse drawn wains hauling loads of sun dried marsh hay from the Marshtown haycribs to the South 'Haven mews.
Obvious paths: north, southeast, south
Rebeya and Galesmight followed.

You perspire delicately.

(Galesmight drags his left leg behind him, pushing with what remaining strength with his other in a futile attempt to help.)

[Solhaven, Baron's Bridge]
Cargo ships and barges dock at Baron's Quay just to the west, the quay forming a breakwater that protects the canal and its shipping. To the north beyond Bayside Road and Charl's Quay, the timbers of the Market Bridge stretch across the waters of the bay from North 'Haven to Marshtown. South along the waterfront the South Market Pier is visible reaching out into the ocean, while beyond it the naked timbers of the shipyard and the stilted warehouses of the Bonding Pier can be made out.
Obvious paths: north, south
Rebeya and Galesmight followed.

Rebeya closes her eyes for a moment.

You reach over and gently rest your hand on Galesmight's shoulder.

You softly say, "Just walk. We can handle it."

You softly say, "Nae strain yourself."

[Solhaven, Bayside Road]
Bayside Road either begins or ends here on the north bank of the Vornavis Canal, depending on whether you're heading northeast or south, and gulls hover constantly, scanning the pavement and the waters for anything edible. South of here Baron's Bridge arcs over the canal, tying North 'Haven to South and rising high enough to let galleys and barges pass beneath on their way to and from the docks beneath Vornavis. A deserted quay juts into the water of the bay to the northwest. You also see an arched gate.
Obvious paths: northeast, south, northwest
Rebeya and Galesmight followed.

[Solhaven, Bayside Road]
Tarred pilings and a stone block wall shore up Bayside Road and stand against the constant action of the waves. This section of Bayside is windier than most, since nothing slows the winds from the west and the expanse of Liabo Plaza to the east provides no obstructions. An old sailor sits on a wooden bench facing the bay, oblivious to the wind and to passersby. You also see a high canvas tent.
Obvious paths: northeast, east, southwest
Rebeya and Galesmight followed.

[Solhaven, Liabo Plaza]
Easily as large as the entire North Market, the plaza is paved with a spiral pattern of alternating terra-cotta and golden-yellow bricks. On the eastern edge of the plaza stands an ornate, white limestone arch, and beyond it the brick-paved avenue stretches toward Vornavis' towering west wall. A steady mix of merchants, artisans, and clerics pass through the arch in both directions. You also see a calico cat that is sleeping, an old barrel and a terra-cotta bench with some stuff on it.
Obvious paths: north, west
Rebeya and Galesmight followed.

Galesmight pants.

Galesmight tiredly says, "I cannae go for ... for much longer."

You nod.

Rebeya asks, "Perhaps the garden?"

Rebeya asks, "One of the cottages?"

You softly say, "That might have to do."

You softly say, "It is secluded."

[Solhaven, Liabo Esplanade]
The color of paving shifts to a pale gold as the terra cotta bricks are replaced by small blocks of white granite. South of the avenue the view is blocked by a high, white granite wall, although a stonework structure is just visible beyond it. A large wooden gate, painted with a golden crown atop a circle of white, fills the gateway in the center of the wall. A sign hangs below the symbol. You also see a white limestone archway and a gold-flecked white marble building.
Obvious paths: east
Rebeya and Galesmight followed.

Rebeya says, "My cottage should do well."

[Solhaven, Liabo Esplanade]
A wall built of the same golden-yellow bricks as the esplanade borders the southern side of the avenue. To the west, the brick wall ends where a white granite wall begins. Above the brick wall the red tiled roofs and stuccoed walls of several large, gabled buildings can be seen. Near the compound's gate the paving takes on a fanciful appearance as crimson, white, green, cerulean, and black bricks take turns alternating with the ever-present golden-yellow ones. You also see a large domed building.
Obvious paths: north, east, west
Rebeya and Galesmight followed.

Speaking softly to Galesmight, you say, "Just a bit further."

[Solhaven, Liabo Esplanade]
A towering pair of rose quartz swans kiss, their heads and necks forming a heart-shaped archway leading into a temple on the north side of the esplanade. To the east and west of the swans, a thick hedge of rose bushes bearing yellow, white, pink, and deep red roses forms a striking, if impenetrable, wall. Small rose quartz blocks replace the terra cotta bricks in this part of the avenue. You also see a wooden gate that leads behind Oleani's temple.
Obvious paths: east, west
Rebeya and Galesmight followed.

Galesmight tiredly says, "Jest ... jest need a bed that I can safely sleep in."

You nod.

Rebeya nods.

You softly say, "You will have it."

[Oleani's Temple, Prayer Garden]
On this side of the temple, tall hedges ring a small prayer garden, and white marble benches are scattered here and there for private moments of quiet contemplation. Pink water lilies float in a small pool next to a slate path leading behind the temple. A wooden gate leads to the esplanade, while an arched modwir door leads into the temple. You also see an eastern path.
Obvious paths: none
Rebeya and Galesmight followed.

[Oleani's Temple, Wedding Bower]
Sculpted rose bushes ring the bower, their thin trunks adorned with violet ribbon streamers. A white silk runner covered with scattered rose petals of all colors extends towards a trellis sheltering a statue of Oleani and Phoen in a passionate embrace. A small grove of tanik trees barely conceals two tiny cottages from prying eyes. You also see a slate path leading out of the bower and a small grove of tanik trees.
Obvious paths: none
Rebeya and Galesmight followed.

[Oleani's Temple, Tree Grove]
The tanik trees provide a dense cover for a charming stone cottage and a pretty wooden cottage, affording lovers with romantic hideaways far from prying eyes. Trimmed hedges of red and white rosebushes line the walks leading to each door. You also see a leaf-strewn walk.
Obvious paths: none
Rebeya and Galesmight followed.

You softly ask, "Which one?"

You glance at Rebeya.

You designate Rebeya as the new leader of the group.

(Rebeya, straining under the weight, points to one of the doors.)

Rebeya says, "That one."

Rebeya's group just went through a rough tanik door.
[Oleani's Temple, Stone Cottage]
A large obsidian fireplace is offset by natural stone walls, creating a cozy setting for a romantic interlude. Two small open-shuttered windows look out on the surrounding trees, while a skylight overhead affords a magnificent view of the sky. A large silk-sheeted featherbed rests atop a brown bearskin rug surrounded by a dozen white jasmine-scented candles flickering softly. A vase brimming with roses and a treat-laden lacquered serving tray sit on a nearby table. You also see a rough tanik door.
Also here: Great Lord Galesmight, Rebeya
Obvious exits: none

You nod.

(Rebeya slowly lets Galesmight down onto the featherbed.)

Rebeya slowly empties her lungs.

Galesmight lies down.

You breathe very slowly and deliberately, calming yourself.

Galesmight tiredly asks, "Where ... where are we? Is it safe?"

You close a rough tanik door.

You latch a rough tanik door.

Rebeya says, "This is my cottage."

Rebeya says, "It is very safe."

You softly say, "This is by Oleani's temple."

You softly say, "I know of few safer places."

Galesmight tiredly says, "I ... I must rest ... I am so tired."

You nod.

You softly say, "Now that the poison is out, you need to sleep."

You remove a tall glass of fresh water from in your dark green robes.

(Nilandia sets the water on the tray.)

Galesmight tiredly says, "Then for tonight ... I shall sleep easily knowing she is watching."

(Rebeya pulls a small key out from her cloak.)

Rebeya says, "This is the key to the door."

Rebeya says, "We'll lock it on our way out."

You nod.

Galesmight tiredly says, "Please ... set it next to the water glass."

You softly say, "I will keep my amulet on. Send me a thought if you need help with anything."

Rebeya nods.

(Rebeya places the small key down on the small table.)

You softly ask, "Do you need anything, Gales?"

Galesmight tiredly says, "Can you help this armor off of me please? I do not think its metal shell will help."

You nod.

You softly say, "That is true."

Galesmight is wearing pants, so Nilandia didn't have a problem taking off the armor.

(Galesmight traces the edges of his armor coming to a rest on its hinges.)

(Nilandia moves to the side of the bed and begins to unbuckle Galesmight's armor.)

(Galesmight pushes the armor softly over his chest.)

Galesmight tiredly says, "I cannae pull the rest off..."

(Nilandia carefully begins to work the rest of the armor off of Galesmight.)

Speaking softly to Galesmight, you say, "Just lie still, Gales. Nae exert yourself."

Galesmight tiredly says, "Almost there..."

(Galesmight tries wiggling his way out of the armor.)

(Nilandia finally pulls the armor free and sets it on the bed next to Galesmight.)

You take a moment to observe everything you can about Galesmight, storing the details away for possible future use.

You softly ask, "Is there anything else you need?"

(Galesmight says dreamily, "Thank you both I think..." His voice trails off as he drifts slowly into sleep, the dreams only forgotten by time he awakes.)

You smile.

Rebeya touches one finger to her lips.

Rebeya glances at a rough tanik door.

Rebeya nods to you.

(Nilandia glances at Rebeya and nods.)

Rebeya unlatches a rough tanik door.

Rebeya just opened a rough tanik door.

(Nilandia tiptoes out the door.)

Rebeya's group just went through a rough tanik door.

That is an empath at work.

You know you can come back later, Wezas. ::pokes::

No cliffs notes for you! You get to read it all! (I like the depth of it too much to cut it short.)

You're like the only one in all of GS that heals like that.

Yeah, I know. I'm also the one who kneels next to the dead on a kneeling mat before healing them, then pours a pain killer in them for when they're alive again.

Give you an idea of what I keep with me:

In a faewood clasped doeskin purse:
some smooth garnet worry stones
some smooth ivory worry stones
a golden snail shell charm
an engraved grey stone charm
a mahogany Lumnis statue
a thick compress
a roll of pristine cotton bandages
a diamond-inset ora lancet
a magenta marillis berry brew
a thin reed kneeling mat
a honey gold sovyn clove brew
a lichen-green lizard bone charm
a small oblong moss agate charm
a fossilized cavegrass charm
some dried pothinir grass
a razor-sharp glaes lancet
a slender silvery mithril lancet
a gleaming invar lancet
a donut-shaped silver wire worry-toy
a bone-hilted vultite lancet
a honey gold sovyn clove brew
a leaf-shaped turquoise charm
a modwir leg splint

The stones and worry-toy are for keeping patients calm. The statue is because of Nilandia's devotion to Lumnis. I also have "an aromatic poultice" that I lent to someone who said she's going to return it soon, as well as offers on more bandages and a leech in a bottle.

I know I'm unusual, but I play Nilandia as I see what she is: a mystical healer who uses herbs and magic as well as her own natural gifts (in short, anything she can) to get people back to health.

Reminds me, I need to tell Briah she can take her bandages off.

Sorry if I didn't make it clear. Galesmight didn't have any wounds by mechanics. If he did, I'd have included it in the log. It was pure RP.

It's meant to be. It's just a shame that they can't get the game to where it should be.. roleplayed.

Gemstone is a role-playing game. Not the game's fault that the small numbers of GMs can't enforce all the shit people do.

No, in a role-playing game you get EXP for roleplaying, for situations like the one posted.

Also, staff members or roleplaying games tend not to post things on their boards about how it's not really a roleplaying game.

<<No, in a role-playing game you get EXP for roleplaying, for situations like the one posted.>>

Final Fantasy is a roleplaying game. I didn't get experience without killing shit. You people take the word roleplay way too seriously.

10-14-2004, 10:21 PM
To some, role-playing games are only games that have ub3r drama and super duper emotional RP. I tend to disagree with these people.

Ick. I can't stand too much drama or hyper-emotional RP. I love to kick back with friends more.

Lot of friends + lot of fun RP, maybe a little healing = happy Nilandia

Nilandia

I just like RP that reflect how a character would normally react. Not everything is ub3r drama like. Not everything warrants over reaction. I do like "serious" RP, myself. The only reason for this is that I RP Arkans as a super nationalistic Faendryl.

That type of RP works with how Arkans is, but that doesn't mean everything needs to be.. OMG.. He said.. "TIME TO GO!" That means he is obviously conspiring against me because the Arkati we worship is not the same and because he is helping the Krolvin invade with the Viishmir!!111"

Heh!

Yeah. I'm not a fan of overdoing it, myself. I must prefer believable stuff, like you. There is the unfortunate time where stuff that's true to the character is the dramatic path, but it's rare.

I also find that staying true to your character is much more interesting than having to contrive drama. Instead of trying to find a conflict where there isn't one, you take things easy until a real conflict arises. That's the fun time.

Nilandia

10-14-2004, 11:47 PM
I completely agree with you. Unfortunately, the way Arkans is played, it often times does cause conflicts. I guess Aeolotoi don't like being called "winged creatures" and "slave race"!

There are other healers in the lands that RP it, Nilandia. I think you did a great job of showing that you are a roleplayer, for sure and that is something positive to add to the lands.

In my experiences as a healer, I have had people either look at me strangely or roll their eyes when I don't just transfer the wounds right away. I've also always RP'd that she gets exhausted after a small bit of healing..etc..

Just because a lot of people are rude as empaths, doesn't mean we are all like that.;)

TOJ, I still don't quite get your question. She doesn't say "I use act therefore I am rping." From what I see, she is using it as a tool along with other game verbs.

From my point of view, your question was a direct insult to Nilanda. I could be wrong. Didn't like what she did? Say so. Why pull a partly mechanical question into something that was just a fun roleplay?

I know some people do think they are roleplaying just by using the act verb. I have seen horrible and misguided things that made me wince. Here, that is not the case.

Bravo Nilandia.

I see ACT as a tool to RP, in addition to a load of the RP verbs already in place. Most times I will try to use already implemented verbs to get across what I'm trying to do. Because of that, I tend to study verb lists to see the different actions that are available for me to use.

It doesn't always work, however, and when I have to do something that there isn't a verb for (how do you tie a bandage on someone with a normal verb?), then I use ACT, SMILE or imbed an action into speech.

As Sweets said, I don't think I RP just because I use ACT. I'm also very careful on how I use the verb. I will not say anything about what my character is thinking, nor will I say anything about what the people around me are experiencing. Or at least I try to. If I do, then it's a mistake on my part.

An example of how I use ACTs.

Bad ACT: (Nilandia comes to a good part in her reading and holds her breath, thinking, "No, don't do it!")

Good ACT: (Nilandia draws her book closer to her eyes, holding her breath and leaning forward. Her attention on her book is undivided.)

I'm a firm believer in the idea that someone should SHOW what someone is doing or experiencing, rather than TELL.

If that makes me a good RP'er, I'll leave that for others to decide. It's just how I play.

People all make mistakes, TOJ. That was a long time ago, and a long time ago was it dropped. Still can't believe I did that. My RP has matured a lot since then, thankfully, and these days I'd never claim something so ridiculous.

For the record, however, I never recall using an ACT like the one you gave. It's never really been in the RP of my characters to bind people and dance around them. ;)

I'm glad you enjoyed it, Arkans. I just wanted to post a log that people believed was a good example of RP. I don't mind the scrutiny, as I have nothing to hide, and I'm always open to suggestions to improve.
