Important Updates!

7/12
Arena Updates

There will be a 250 cap on earnings. That cap will be achievable. Earning bloodscrip won't be about massacring everything as quick as possible. Time will still be an important element to being a top earner, but there will be more things at play when earning bloodscrip. Dodging the traps will play a minor role. Dying and surrendering will no longer have any penalties to your bloodscrip earnings, but will still result in no chance of a randomly created item in your prize package. Prize packages are also getting a small revamp to offer a little more variety. Losing will now earn a good showmanship bonus to bloodscrip, meaning people who can't always win will still have a chance to earn more depending on how long they last on their final opponent. For example, if you can't defeat the your 12th opponent and you had 3 minutes to defeat them, you'll earn for making it to the 12 opponent, for dodging any traps, and a bonus for lasting 3 minutes (dying/surrendering won't get you that bonus). The spells haste and rapid fire will be dispelled during the combat sequence of the arena matches. While they both offer an advantage, the reason is due to the crashes many of you experienced in the arena.

Ratacombs Updates

Bloodscrips earned while searching the Ratacombs will have a higher range of their value. It will still not compare to the arena, but it will be closer to the hopeful median. The random directions in the Ratacombs will be lessened with some more static areas to walk through.

Item|Price*|Notes
Spell knowledge certificate|300000|Create an item or use your own to make a spell knowledge enhancive. The spell list to choose from has some limitations, but not many.
Coin hand certificate|250000|Create a coin hand from your own flesh! Description will be [a something][your race][hand]. Don't want to use your own hand? No problem, we can find something more to your liking.
Blink certificate|175000|Create a 5x "blink" weapon. Most weapon profiles allowed with exception to naginatas, katanas, and claidhmores.
RotFlare certificate|125000|Add RotFlares to a weapon of your choice. Some exceptions would be a "blink" weapon or fusion. Others may exist on a case-by-case scenario.
* Item price may be subject to change before they are placed out for sale.

>For the self knowledge certificates, are spells 215, 1617, 1109, and 1130 eligible?

No on 1130. Spells 215 and 1617 will have limited charges. I can also tell you no to 1750.
1612 will be a limited charges one.
Yeah, limited charges just means they won't have the usual max charges allowed.
No, the spell knowledge aren't x/day. There are just specific tiers of max charges on there. The more powerful spells that you don't typically find for sale in shops will be at the highest tier for spell knowledge, which means they don't have a lot of charges. More than a typical item you find out hunting though.
Oh and good news, we'll let 1109 be offered for spell knowledge enhancives.

>Does "limited charges" mean under 80 or under 20? There's a big difference, so I was curious if this information can be shared. Also, will the recharging costs be adjusted depending on the item slot, and is there any way to get an idea of these before deciding on an item? Say for 215 for the various spots and for 1612 and 1109 also.

Under 80, over 20. You'll be working with me for the certificates, so we can run through some checks. Spell enhancives are pricey to recharge. But yeah, I don't want you guys having buyer's remorse on a monster purchase. You have my assurance I'll work with you.

The shadowy leather cloak is back since none sold.
Permanent gold rings with 3, 5, and 10 settings.
Two warblade, 6x, greater elemental flares (fire and ice).
A permanent vaalin lockpick (self-repairs).

7/24
We've also added some items that may appeal to more RP-centric characters instead of purely mechanically-inclined prizes. Spellbound is now home to a new tome and codex which are chock full of verbs to help you express yourself!

For example...

Tamuz flicks a bit of dust from a page of his leather-bound tome.
Tamuz flips through the pages of his leather-bound tome.
Tamuz gazes intently at a page of his leather-bound tome, lost in thought.
Tamuz moistens his fingertip with his tongue and slowly turns a page of his leather-bound tome.
Tamuz emphatically pokes a finger at a page of his leather-bound tome.
Tamuz turns his leather-bound tome over and shakes it vigorously, but it seems there's nothing stuck between the pages.
Tamuz turns a page of his leather-bound tome.
Tamuz pulls a small stylus from the binding of his leather-bound tome, scribbles something on a page, then puts the tool away.
Tamuz slams his leather-bound tome shut with a loud THWAP!
Tamuz drums his fingers on his leather-bound tome, lost in thought.

And that's only half of the verbs available on them!

I've thought long and hard. I'm going to put the certificates out the first Sunday, but only from 2pm to 3pm ET. I will then put them out again the following Sunday (8/2) at 9pm until we close (which I believe is 10pm) ET. While the layaway, downpayment, and being overly lenient methods are desired, I feel this is still the proper direction to go. It's not intended for everyone who wants one of these items to get one. It's intended to be something very rare still. I think allowing the items to be purchased during the last hour of this event will open it up to many others though.

Because of this update, I am going to put a HARD DEADLINE of August 5th on the certificate redemption. There will be instructions on the certificates. If you plan to be out of town, out of reach, or simply away from GS after you purchase that certificate and do not attempt to redeem it by that deadline, the certificate will be forfeit. If we pass the deadline date because of legitimate reasons, such as we can't find a qualifying item after something gets rejected, you've had something terrible come up, or you accidentally fall into a time rift and find yourself in a quest to save the universe, then we'll be okay about the deadline passing.

Room 12: Duskruin Arena

[Bloodriven Village, Pell Square]

- Matches will be 8 minutes long where you face 25 creatures one-on-one. Every 5 matches you'll face a champion similar to the champions in the previous version of the arena.
- There are over 20 new creatures in the arena to face. Most creatures can perish to a critical blow, outside the champions. You earn bloodscrip for each creature you kill. You also earn a bonus if you defeat all 25 creatures in the time limit. Dying no longer incurs a bloodscrip penalty, but surrendering still does.
- Spectators can watch battles in progress, after the porticullis, go north, go steps. In any of those rooms type WATCH and a list of options will appear. These rooms in the stands are also earth nodes.
- Hazards can now be avoided in a small mini-game during arena matches. Hazards are a little more deadly though.
- You can now earn a time bonus too that works in a more favorable way. The quicker you make it through, the higher the bonus. You can earn a max of 225 bloodscrip plus the time bonus.
- Battles are just like hunting so make sure you're spelled up and have your armor, shield and weapon!
- At the end you will receive a winnings package. The contents will vary depending on how you did in the arena.

Ready to fight?!
1. Go up a heavily wooded path next to a stately two-storey house.
2. Go through the enormous iron porticullis, then north, down and north again.
3. Buy a Duskruin Arena Ticket from the Simustore (https://store.play.net/store/purchase/GS) for 100 simucoins. Type SIMUCOIN in game to get your ticket. Booklets are also available (25 and 50 slips).
4. Make sure you're ready for battle and have herbs aplenty! Battling here is just like hunting except you have a time limit (5 minutes per beast).
5. With the dueling slip in hand, go through the entrance.

Snapshot
An announcer shouts, "Introducing our new combatant, Duskruin Arena Champion Teiana Vala'wethrin the Spiritcaller, hailing from Isle of the Four Winds!"

An announcer shouts, "Teiana, you will have five minutes to slay each beast that enters the arena. There are a total of five rounds to make it through!"

An announcer shouts, "You may use whatever means possible to do so. Some beasts may feign death and give the assumptions they have dropped dead, so be sure to keep a watchful eye on them!"

An announcer shouts, "Give us a good show, but be careful lingering too long. You will earn more bloodscrip the longer you last each round, but our beasts are trained to work better under pressure!"

An announcer shouts, "Combatant Teiana, prepare yourself for battle! Good luck and Godspeed. At any point you can surrender, but I would not recommend it if you want to be a champion!"

...after defeating your beasts...

An announcer boasts, "Combatant Teiana is triumphant, defeating all those that opposed her!" The overwhelming sound of applauding echoes throughout the stands!

An arena guard escorts you from the dueling sands. You pass by a white-robed human healer who heals you of your injuries.

A plump grey-bearded scripmaster flags you over and says, "Here are your winnings, Teiana." He shows you an arena winnings package containing {bloodscrip}, {random item}, and some silver coins. He continues, "Not bad for for an untrained Sylvankind." The scripmaster closes an arena winnings package and hands it to you.

Room 11: Duskruin Sewer

[Bloodriven Village, Mark Alley]

- You have one hour or 10-12 chances to SEARCH the Ratacombs.
- There are also some minor obstacles in the sewers when you SEARCH to add some flavor.
- Loot is either bloodscrip, a random item or if you're lucky, a sewer rat (http://forum.gsplayers.com/showthread.php?95093-sewer-rat) or other wildlife. Random items vary from magical or enhancive to plain jewelry, weapons, shields or armor.
- Haste spell does not help unfortunately.
- If you're injured you won't be allowed past the grate.
- When you enter the Ratacombs from the grate you get dropped into a series of four rooms where you can move up/down. You can SEARCH here and it won't drop your count however currently there is no known benefit to doing this. Head up and out to get to the actual SEARCH'able rooms.
- Move about and search. If you have searched a room already you can't search it again, not sure if this resets after a certain time.

Ready to search?!
1. From the gate go east then into a dark alleyway.
2. Climb a crooked ladder that is behind the rubble.
3. Buy a Duskruin Sewer Token from the Simustore (https://store.play.net/store/purchase/GS) for 100 simucoins. Type SIMUCOIN in game to get your token.
4. With a gold rat token in hand, go through the grate, up a couple times and out.

Snapshot
The tunnel sweeper accepts your rat token and says, "Great, friend. Enjoy the adventure, I hope you find riches, just mind the rats. All you need to do inside is search around, even if you want to catch a rat!" An old tunnel sweeper escorts you into the sewer. As you pass through the grate, you lose your footing and slide down a sluice. Speeding down into the sewer, you finally come to a stop and splash into some sewage!

>search
You search around and find an old spiked golvern shield!
Roundtime: 2 sec.

>search
You search around and find some filthy parchment bloodscrip!
Roundtime: 5 sec.

>search
You search around and find a kakore runestaff!
Roundtime: 4 sec.

You get washed away by some raw sewage! You wipe the filth from your eyes and see...

[Bloodriven Village, Cesspool]
The floor of this putrid pit is quaggy and wet beneath about three feet of liquid sewage. A few roots stick out from the tall dirt walls, covered in slick sludge. A wet and rotting rope dangles over the side from above, where a shaft of light descends through a small overhead circle.
Obvious paths: none

Once you're at this point you're done, climb or go rope to exit after the stun wears off.

I don't think there is a limit on how many tickets/tokens you can buy from the simucoin store so as many times as you want?

Wyrom said this instance will be open until late Sunday. I think the plan is to run it on weekends until the kinks are worked out then maybe keep it open longer.

Those sewers are addicting - that's all I have to say. And the rats drink cocoa!

You show a large cup of milky hot cocoa to a buck-toothed sewer rat, setting it on the ground as the rodent climbs down to sniff at the proffered beverage suspiciously. Apparently satisfied, it drags the cocoa off a ways and begins lapping at it.
>
The sewer rat laps at a large cup of milky hot cocoa, its eyes darting back and forth, scanning for potential threats.

Finished with a large cup of milky hot cocoa, the sewer rat makes a cursory pass of its paws over its whiskers, nosing at the ground for spilled drops.

It seems, if the runs are unlimited, to kill the creatures as fast as possible and run a few more times to make up for the lost points. This ensures you have the smallest chance of failure, and spend the least amount of your time for the item you want.

Hope you don't mind Roblar but I added this quote from you to the arena guide:

- The minimum base scrip for a victorious match is 100. That can rise slightly based on either time or creature action rounds. 100-104 = no item prize. 105+ includes item prize, quality is random whether at 105 or 224. Max is 225, special "Duskruin Arena Hero" title is at 201 and up.

We are back up and running!

Some updates! There are exactly 2 more nerve-rots up for grabs. They are the last 2.

We'll be adding some magic items for sale. Some really high end scrolls (books) and a few 1x a day items. They will be in a crate in Spellbound soon.

The gambling kits in Gamac's Goods now tier up.
-- an ebon-stained ash case: Plain OTS
-- a smooth ironwood case branded with luck runes: Tier 1
-- a rectangular rose gold case with rigid leather-capped corners: Tier 2
-- a dark mahogany kit with diamond-patterned pressed metal filigree: Tier 2 with special games
-- a cylindrical jet and pearl cloisonne case: Tier 2 with special games and holds 5k coins weightless.

Ratacombs has a new drop room when you go in, where everyone will gather. You can SEARCH in the drop room, but it won't take down your search count.

I sure hope not. I was standing there when Wyrom changed the price from 7500 to 10000. And I was thinking I'm okay with that, not bad. So, I went and bought some tokes and started grinding the sewer only to check back like 10 minutes later and it changed again. I think they just didn't realize the market value of it when they first put it up for sale. They also lowered the price on all the scrolls, those were all 7500 to begin with.

You and me both. At first, I was severely enthused. Then I realized that if you look at it from a business standpoint, this puts a *LOT* of cash into Simu's pocket, and removes it from the PC player-driven economy. That's bad =(.

And then they bumped the price on a lot of shit that matters to players. The Fash pin especially. Double the price? Who the fuck is going to pay 60+mil for 2 or 3 fash rubs per day? Seriously? At least at 7500 it was a severe investment of cash/silvers buying tokens/slips, but it was semi-reasonable, considering the market for x/day chargers.

>>Have the pins stabilized in price or are they going to keep going up like the Fash'lo'nae pin has doubled since release? It would be helpful to know before attempting to chase a moving target.

Something didn't stink when we added them originally. So the prices kept reverting back to a base price, which wasn't intended. They were a;ways intended to 7500 a piece for the two specific spells, and double for the Fash'lo'nae's Gift. There was someone in the shop who kept saying, "Don't change the 1750 price." And I couldn't figure out why he kept saying that until I double checked. And then I messed up a digit when I fixed it.

I believe RUB is the activator. I could be wrong though.

If the duskruin scrolls drain consistently with my past scroll research, you'll get ~800 casts of raise dead for your 7500 bloodscrip, assuming you never invoke/infuse the other spells on the scroll.

I'll work up the estimates for other already-available-on-scrolls spells (like 613, 215) tomorrow. For the ones that otherwise don't show on scrolls (like 515), if someone wants to bring me a scroll once it's ready to be infused, I can work up estimates for their lifetimes too. I got an 1109 scroll myself, so I'll publish that eventually, but it'll be a little while before I even work down from the 40 initial charges to below 20 where I can infuse it and check the value drain.

Wyrom is looking for arena feedback here (http://forums.play.net/forums/GemStone%20IV/Quests%60Sagas%60Events/Duskruin%20Arena/view/479):

After watching over hundred matches the last couple of days, and hearing a lot of the concerns for the arena comparing to the sewers... I'm thinking of moving away entirely from the current setup for the arena matches. While the math works, it's still too slow, and the herb munching was never an intended feat.

My goal is to change the arena to be a kill count match. You keep going until the time limit is up, you die, or you surrender. The time would be drastically reduced to 5 minute matches. I'll also look into ways to offer mini challenges during the matches to aid people who want to avoid hazards.

What I want to know from all of you is, would you welcome this change?

Fallen
03-31-2015, 04:25 PM
Is it fair to have pures and squares held to the same kill count timers? It almost seems like each player should be measured using their own profession's specific standard.

The average sorcerer can kill X per second
The average warrior can kill X per second

etc

Tei
04-28-2015, 06:37 PM
Update:

The arena matches are much more action packed now. No more herb munching and waiting an obnoxiously long time to maximize your bloodscrip. Matches will be roughly 6 to 7 minutes long where you face 25 creatures one-on-one. Every 5 matches you'll face a champion similar to the champions in the previous version of the arena. There are over 20 new creatures in the arena to face. Most creatures can perish to a critical blow, outside the champions. You earn bloodscrip for each creature you kill. You also earn a bonus if you defeat all 25 creatures in the time limit. Dying no longer incurs a bloodscrip penalty, but surrendering still does.

I've also introduced new hazards. I removed the darts, arrows, spiked ball-and-chain, and boulders. Hazards can now be avoided in a small mini-game during arena matches. I will leave it to you to figure it out. It's not terribly hard, and the term "mini-game" probably is an exaggeration of what it is. But it adds flavor. Hazards are a little more deadly though.

You can now earn a time bonus too that works in a more favorable way. The quicker you make it through, the higher the bonus. You can earn a max of 225 bloodscrip plus the time bonus.

The Ratacombs have also had a minor update. It seems more wildlife has escaped into the sewers, as well as some other sort of rats. So you may find something different this time around. There are also some minor obstacles in the sewers when you SEARCH to add some flavor.

We'll be relaunching this Friday and staying open for a week.

~Wyrom, APM

>>Do the traps still get progressively more challenging later in the match? Or are they the same level of mini-game 'skill' throughout?

You get a 30 second leeway where they are VERY slow. After that, it's random throughout to when they can fire. You can prevent them 2 different ways. Through the mini-game or by simply disabling the creature. I don't want to give too much about the mini-game away just yet.

Tei
04-30-2015, 03:45 PM
Deeds:

One thing I changed this time is the need for deeds. You lost deeds in the arena, but you incurred no penalty if you had none. If you have no deeds, your death will be treated like a normal death, and you'll drop all your spells. Stock up, or Lorminstra awaits!

So we've added a handful of new items.

There are 5 helmets that have resistance and padding in Gamac's Goods.

There are 3 new mannequins in The Mar and Scar with high-end loot. We've readjusted the price on the faenor waraxe as well (lower). All the armors are similar in properties. I'll explain more about the other wares later. There is also an infamous spoon and a butcher knife for sale there too.

We added 2 new X/day items, floating disk and invisibility, but they are 2x/day.

There is a 6x/6x acuity NerveStaff for sale.

The Mar and Scar, Pierced - types of piercing jewelry:
I was able to add hoop, shard, sliver, fang, and hook. Plurals don't work as it's set up right now. Hope you all will enjoy the 5 new nouns though!

Arena:
I updated the arena mechanics to discard lodged arrows and thrown weapons before the creatures are pulled from the arena. They will be dropped to the ground where you stand. Make sure to grab them before you're moved or you die!

>>That 6X/6X Nervestave is going to be very nice for whomever gets it.

It's not limited.

>>Also, are the high end scrolls back, same as last run?

Scrolls are still there.

>>So when you say new wild life escaped into the sewers do you mean different types of rodents or something completely different? Just curious what I will be adding to my walking zoo this weekend.

Different types of rats. Sewer rats are the most abundant. There are 15 more descriptors and 5 new types of rats.

>>Is this going to be limited like the rot staves?

Right now, there is nothing limited at this event. But there is a high chance we will rotate some gear for next time, so don't count on the same wares after this run.

>>Also, I see one comment about leaving it open for 2 weekends this time, is that real or will it be shorter?

The event will run from 5/1 at (roughly) 9pm until 5/10 at (roughly) 9pm ET.

Some shops MAY be closed on opening night, but we'll make sure they are open by Sunday at the latest.

a gear-covered heavy arbalest | mechanical scripted crossbow | (100)
a mechanical light arbalest | mechanical scripted crossbow | (100)
a mechanical heavy arbalest | mechanical scripted crossbow | (100)

Are these those crossbows that always take 3-sec to cock? Seems a bit cheap for them to be that.

EDIT: So I went ahead and bought one to test, definitely not 3-sec to cock, also I used ;zesty on it and didn't see any scripts (I did this on a character with no ranged training if it matters).

>look my crossbow
A fine example of gnomish ingenuity and workmanship, this heavy siege crossbow displays curved glaes arms extending outward from the stock and is capped at the front with a glaes stirrup. Large oval cams of glaes are wrapped in the bowstring that stretches across a network of silver gears set amid either arm and into the interior of the crossbow. Aligned atop the stock are a pair of smoky crystal lenses serving as sights, with a small trigger extending from the underside of the weapon.

Examining the crossbow you see that it is cocked and not loaded.
You see nothing unusual.

>analyze my crossbow
You analyze your heavy siege crossbow and sense that there is no recorded information on that item. It may or may not be able to be worked on by a merchant alterer.

You might be able to have a talented merchant lighten the heavy siege crossbow for you.

So I asked on the officials:
Here (http://forums.play.net/forums/GemStone%20IV/Quests%60Sagas%60Events/Duskruin%20Arena/thread/1707292)

I updated the ANALYZE on these. It's basically an auto-crossbow, where you can fire multiple shots.

>analyze my crossbow
You analyze your ruic light crossbow and sense that the item is largely free from merchant alteration restrictions.

The creator has also provided the following information:
-------------------MECHANICAL CROSSBOWS-------------------------
| These crossbows are of gnomish craftsmanship, and very |
| intricate. Any alteration should be along with this theme. |
| |
| Bows should have a wooden stock, metallic gears and arms |
| with a crystal lenses for sights. |
| |
| If altering these, you may ONLY change the base 15/15/15 |
| and the settings below. |
| |
| It is currently a locked, off the shelf version. |
| It currently can only be loaded with up to 1 bolt. |
| You have access to: WEAR and REMOVE. |
----------------------------------------------------------------
Metal Gears = bronze
Metal Cams = bronze
Metal Arms/Stirrup = steel
Crystal Sights = clear

You might be able to have a talented merchant lighten the ruic light crossbow for you.

>wear crossbow
You sling your ruic light crossbow over your shoulder, its steel arms folding up neatly to its sides.

>rem crossbow
You unsling a gear-covered ruic light crossbow off from over your shoulder, its steel arms unfolding neatly to the sound of whirring gears.

Also they are probably 4x:
>touch cry
You touch the crystal with one hand, your heavy arbalest in the other hand. Tiny sparks of brilliant golden light dance across your arbalest. A green beam shoots up from your heavy arbalest toward the ceiling.

they're 4x, i bought one of each on the last run. News about the multiple loading thing but, looks like they're just normal shitty crossbows with a wear/remove script off the shelf. If xerria can't unlock them it doesn't make a lot of difference but, neat i guess in case wyrom brings around whatever merchants can unlock them ever.

Arena and Ratacomb updates:

Okay, based on feedback I made some updates. Also, due to the quantity vs quality argument, I've made changes to loot in the Ratacombs.

Arena

*Creatures that are bound should stop causing the hazards.
*RT locked creatures will still be able to fire off the hazards.
*Extra death messaging with no deeds is resolved (you weren't dying more, it was just being silly).
*Matches are roughly 8 minutes, not 6. This hasn't changed, but the intro messaging reflects this.
*If a GameHost or GameMaster enters your arena, it will pause the match briefly (not the creature), but they need to leave, and you need to ASSIST or REPORT when you're done.

Ratacombs

*The sewage sweeper doesn't strike much at all anymore. It should be a rare occurrence. And it doesn't ever take you to the starting spot. This NEVER uses up a search attempt. Just because I said rare doesn't mean it can't strike twice in a trip. It can happen, but not that often. This is a 1% chance now.
*I've decreased the number of loot you can find in a single trip into the Ratacombs and stabilized the loot to not be so random. Loot drops at a rate of 10% of all searches. As an FYI, this is now better than anything you experienced on opening night last time. Loot is still random though, like a slot machine (this is the nature of GS). There will still be times you don't win great things, but you have better chances at a jackpot find now.

Minor updates for the Arena:

Added some safeguards for characters level 10 and below so creatures don't have an overwhelming number of health. Some creatures do have higher attack strengths though.

Fixed a typo in the intro.

Gave the ability for creatures to spawn with more mana.

Anyone got stats on the two ruic bows in Bloodriven Bowery?

a lapis-tinted ruic bow traced in filigree along the limbs 84
a leather-strapped dark ruic bow with a faint oily sheen 24

Is there a difference with them mechanically? Perhaps one is more scripted. Something for the reason why one is 84 bloodscrip while the other is only 28. Is it just because one has a "fancier" description?

Edit:

I ended up just buying both of them. Nothing special from what I can tell. Though the leather-strapped bow is actually just a short bow hence the cost difference.

Has anyone bought a mechanical crossbow yet? How do they work?

EDIT: Nevermind, Wyrom clarified.

In Crosswinds and Crosshairs, the crystal-sighted crossbows are tier 1 unlocked, which hold up to 3 bolts at a time. The mechanical arbalests are 5x [actually, he changed these back to 4x] and tier 2 unlocked, and hold up to 5 bolts at a time. I mistakenly thought they fired all the ammo at once, but they still only fire it one at a time.

Enjoy!

So I did some testing.

| It can now be loaded with up to 5 bolts at a time. |
| You can now: WEAR, REMOVE, POINT, POKE, RUB, PULL, PUSH |
----------------------------------------------------------------
Metal Gears = silver
Metal Cams = rolaren
Metal Arms/Stirrup = steel
Crystal Sights = tinted

You might be able to have a talented merchant lighten the light arbalest for you.

>load arb
You flip open the stock of your light arbalest and load a wooden light crossbow bolt into it. As you do, several gears spin and whirl, drawing the bolt into the interior of your arbalest. You then quickly snap the stock shut.
>look arb
A fine example of gnomish ingenuity and workmanship, this light arbalest displays curved steel arms extending outward from the stock and is capped at the front with a steel stirrup. Large oval cams of rolaren are wrapped in the bowstring that stretches across a network of silver gears set amid either arm and into the interior of the arbalest. Aligned atop the stock are a pair of tinted crystal lenses serving as sights, with a small trigger extending from the underside of the weapon.

Examining the arbalest you see that it is cocked and loaded with 5 bolts.
You see nothing unusual, except for a small enchanter's mark.

>fire
You aim down the tinted crystal sights and squeeze the trigger of your light arbalest, the silver gears snapping into action!
You fire a wooden light crossbow bolt at a kobold!
AS: +71 vs DS: +13 with AvD: +31 + d100 roll: +71 = +160
... and hit for 28 points of damage!
Nice puncture to the abdomen, just missed vital organs!
The kobold crumples to a heap on the ground and dies.
The light crossbow bolt ricochets away from a kobold, landing nearby.
Roundtime: 2 sec.

>cock arb
You draw back on the bowstring of your light arbalest causing its silver gears to whirl, lifting a wooden light crossbow bolt from the interior and snapping it into place. You cock your light arbalest.
Roundtime: 7 sec.

You unfortunately still have to cock the crossbow between shots, so it is really mostly for looks.

I've just tossed in some updates to these bows.

The RUB verb is working again.
The ANALYZE is lined up better for the unlocked versions.
The LOOK has some extra spacing for the line where enchants would show.
The COCK roundtime for unlocked versions only has been GREATLY reduced. Light crossbows will have a 1 second RT, where heavy will have a 2 second RT. They will not take you out of hiding or be subjected to strength/encumbrance rules. The gears do the work for you.

Due to this change, the price for the unlocked versions will be increasing.

New prices are:
T2: 5000
T1: 2500
Locked: 100

This is one of the core rules of successful gamification- artificial scarcity. Though, the enhancive issue is definitely part of the problem. If you read the officials- it's clear Wyrom is trying to figure out how to do that without pissing everyone off. I don't envy him.

I'll re-evaluate the math associated with a crossbow compared to a bow.. I know there's about a 20% DS contribution difference between bows and crossbows, favoring bows (.15 DS contribution in offensive for bows versus .12 for crossbows). I'll take a look at the DF values and such as well.

If you have ridiculously high RT, it seems like a good option, but if you're anywhere close to minimum RT, I couldn't any crossbow as advantageous, especially considering the additional verbs, and two sets of RT.

I went ahead and grabbed one of the 5x fully unlocked mechanical heavy crossbows. If nothing else, it may be nice to have along as a secondary weapon. I was more drawn by the fact it can hold 5 bolts before it needs to be reloaded. Only issue with any of this is the ridiculous encumbrance issues with a gnome already - carrying an extra weapon may be difficult.

I think I may have a 6 sec RT with my longbow, not sure. Will have to play around with the crossbow sometime this week.

The realm weapons have nifty loresongs, or the Eonake morning star I bought does at least

The first thing that strikes you about the star is the sturdy craftmanship, the uncanny balance, and the elegant design. The metal from which the star is crafted feels strangely heavy in your hand. You sense rare, wild magics in the weapon, magics that are tied in some elemental fashion to time and place.

Your voice strains to overcome the protective properties of a spiked eonake morning star. An image, faint at first, forms slowly in your mind. An ancient forge lit by a small, white hot fire. A leather-aproned dwarf, hammer in hand, squinting against the bright fire, intently examining the still hot weapon. A gentle tap here, a feathery touch there, each made with quiet confidence, each touch of hammer to weapon almost a prayer.

The scene shifts as you continue your song. A stone croft on some remote, barren mountainside. Beside the croft, a stone structure resembling a well, but filled with what appears to be peculiar orange sand. The edge of the star is immersed to the hilt in this odd sand. The dwarven smithy stands well to one side as the sand begins to roil and shift. Waves of power emanate from the sand, enveloping the weapon. Lightning flashes, flames dance around the rim of the structure, the ground rattles, wisps of icy blue fire encircle the weapon, the harsh stink of acid envelopes the area.

The jars and bottles are the same as last time.

The parchment and such behind the prick are premade spell preps.

What realm weapons?

Rock Solid is now listed on the wiki page, it has the realm weapons (and wand loading bows).

I had hoped the realm weapons would change flares depending on the hunting grounds you were in but I think it might just stick to one flare per town. I got grapple flares in about four places I checked in the landing...

You gesture at a frost giant.
You hurl a small surge of electricity at a frost giant!
AS: +316 vs DS: +122 with AvD: +24 + d100 roll: +8 = +226
... and hit for 18 points of damage!
Light shock to right arm. That stings!
** Your silvery lor staff releases a twisted tendril of force! **
... 15 points of damage!
Weak grapple around the neck bruises windpipe.

When you pull it out...

You get a glaes-banded silvery lor staff from inside your suede jacket. It emits a low, rumbling tone.

Thinking of buying one of those HCP resistant helms for my Warrior.

Would Crush or Lightning resistance be more useful? I keep leaning towards Lightning considering how fatal Lightning strikes to the head can be and extra magical protection is probably good, though I am unsure. Any suggestions?

Also kind of sucks if the realm based flares are only per town and not per hunting area. Was considering the sledgehammer for my Warrior - his current weapon has no flares, though, so I suppose some flares are better than no flares.

If you will be hunting in OTF at cap, get the lightning resist. Hunting anywhere else, I'd call it more of a toss up.

** Your eonake morning star releases a quivering wave of disruption! **

Blood boils in the frost giant's chest.

A couple other places
Icemule trail: Disintegration (high-pitched thrumming)
Icemule: Fire (fiery crimson flame)

Also, how does one control which spell they cast? Is it settable?

For the realm flares its mostly just a quality of life thing. The flares themselves are no stronger than a standard flaring runestaff would offer. It just keeps you from having to worry about swapping your equipment around for certain areas.

For anyone who is into that sort of thing, I went ahead and tried out the poison. Not sure if anyone ever posted an example of it but here it is. It leaves the person Stunned, Immobile and Prone.

Suddenly, you feel a twinge in your throat, almost as if something were stuck back there. Coughing seems to help a bit, but a lingering tingle remains.
>
The twinge in your throat grows to a stronger prickling feeling, and attempting to swallow around the sensation is starting to be more difficult.
>
The prickling feeling gives way to a steadily rising sensation of burning. With swallowing rapidly growing impossible, you pant to bring air through your slowly constricting airway, realize with dawning horror, that your tongue has also started to burn and swell.
>
With a final rattling wheeze, your breathing grinds to a halt, the agony in your throat reaching a fevered pitch compounded with every panicked beat of your heart. In desperation, you begin clawing at your throat, your entire focus devoted to the vain effort of drawing air into your aching lungs.
I>
You seem to be in one piece.

Maximum Health Points: 107
Remaining Health Points: 107

Maximum Spirit Points: 10
Remaining Spirit Points: 10

Maximum Stamina Points: 53
Remaining Stamina Points: 53

I>
Blackness begins to eat at your vision, and you feel yourself slumping to the ground, writhing as you continue to weakly clutch at your throat.

Air! Where is the air!?

The straining starved beat of your heart is lost against the muffled roaring in your ears as a foggy haze begins to cloud your thoughts.
SIP>
The fog slowly fills your mind, the pain and struggle growing more distant as your body slowly succumbs to the numbing lack of air. Vaguely, you feel your arms dropping limply to your sides as the welcoming darkness engulfing your awareness whispers of peace.
SIP>
Just as your awareness begins its last feeble gutterings, like a dying candle's flame, the terrible restriction and swelling in your throat and mouth begin to ease. A weak instinctive spasm of your diaphragm pulls a thin tendril of air past enflamed tissues to starved lungs.
SIP>
Like a drowning man clinging to a thin rope in a stormy sea, you struggle to maintain the tenuous passage of air into your lungs. Each searing breath slowly grows less of a struggle with each successful inhalation through the gradually relaxing restriction of your throat.
SIP>
Finally drawing one deep, almost sufficient breath of air, you cough loudly and raspily, clearing out the last vestiges of tightness in your throat. Shakily, you open your eyes and become aware of the moisture seeping down your cheeks, a testament to the torment so recently experienced.
IP>
At last, though your breathing has returned to its prior carefree ease, you are left feeling weakened and hoarse in the wake of your ordeal.

From the official forums: (http://forums.play.net/forums/GemStone%20IV/Quests%60Sagas%60Events/Duskruin%20Arena/view/2002)

We're going to change the angle of how we do this high-end item list. There is no way I can limit item sales in a reasonable way to make all parties happy. I toss them on first, it rewards those that saved, I toss them on last, it opens the playing field to anyone with the time and money. The original scope was 3 certificates this time around, limited to 2 to 5 certificates total, but we're completely changing gears. I realize this is going to be pretty drastic. But due to this, we're going to offer some once in a (Elanthian) life time item opportunities.

We are going to be offering 13 limited items this time around. We are offering one of each of the following:

Item or Service Notes
Blink Weapon .......To be added to your own weapon, some restrictions may apply.
Splitter Weapon.........To be added to your own weapon, some restrictions may apply.
Bandolier Weapon.......Create a new bandolier with a newly created weapon of your choice, some restrictions may apply.
Undead Bane..........To be added to your weapon, cannot have a bane already.
Coin Hand........Creation of a new coin hand from any Elanthian race that has a hand.
Cross-Realm Transportation........Pretty self explanatory.
A Trio of Enchanting Potions........To create 8x, 9x, and 10x enchants.
Addition Weighting.......An addition 10 points, nothing over 40 points.
Addition Padding..........An addition 10 points, nothing over 40 points.
Addition Sighting..........An addition 10 points, nothing over 40 points.
Addition TD............An addition 10 points, nothing over 40 points.
Addition Defender...........An addition 10 points, nothing over 40 points. Cannot offset the Zelnorn defender properties.
Pet Phoenix..........The one that follows you around, attuned to the wearer, needs to be manually set up.

These will all be auctioned for bloodscrip on the last Sunday. Restricted to 1 per account and 1 service per item. You will need to have all the bloodscrip redeemed at the end of each auction. No exchanged of bloodscrip after the auction will be allowed. Leaving the room will disqualify you. Not having the bloodscrip redeemed shortly after the auction will also disqualify you. If you are disqualified, the person with the next highest bid will win by default. Same rules apply.

A later post:

Quick note on the bandolier weapon. The weapon is freshly made, not your own weapon. I don't want you going bananas over that. I said create a new one, but I realize it's not clear after re-reading it.

Also, these aren't certificates, these are services that need to be redeemed Sunday night.

You can split the weapon into two identical weapons. This allows players to bond (or 1625) to their weapon, and then split it to keep the bonded bonuses on the off-hand weapon also. It is primarily for dual-wielding.

I've added back the fully unlocked pirate bandolier with the inviso-sphere feature AND have inviso-spheres for sale. I decreased the price from 12500 to 10000.

I've added a fully unlocked pelt bag that bundles (5000 bloodscrip).

I've upped all of Ode To Resistance have been upped to 5x (2500 bloodscrip).

Haliste added new unlocked Fana wares (everything in the case - 2500/5000 bloodscrip).

Valyrka added the aug chain and upped all her flaring items to 5x (2500 bloodscrip).

The NerveStaff that was described glowbark but was really lor has been fixed to really be glowbark.

Nephelem
08-21-2015, 09:41 AM
I must have read it wrong. Going back to Tamuz's post he in fact confirmed that the realm flaring weapons are NOT blessable. Sorry for the confusion. His post follows from the Duskruin thread.

Some history: Realm Weapons debuted at the 2000 auction. We brought them back for the Droughtman runs and then again for Duskruin with updates for more realms, an improved list of flares (no lightning in Solhaven which has many watery rooms, for example), and support for UAC gear.

Realm Weapons are intended to offer a good flare for every realm. It is not the optimal flare for every single hunting ground or creature you might want to kill, but it's a good, flavorful choice for each realm that won't actively set off environmental hazards. Fire and ice elementals heating and cooling gear is an environmental hazard that is up to individual hunters to deal with. A weapon that switches its flares to combat different elementals would be a neat script on its own and something I'll consider for the future, but that's outside the scope of this script. It was intended to be a serviceable weapon anywhere you go in the game.

Things that remain blessable while providing flares are incredibly rare, as that's a huge mechanical advantage over other weapons. Don't expect to see that with any sort of regularity. It's not something I'm overly interested in providing in any sort of large quantities as it makes existing gear much less desirable.

darkcipher

Got some of the wiki updated.

Mar and Scar has the items listed but needs item info in a lot of places.
Ode to resistance is updated.
Flash of Strength is updated, but I find some of price increases odd so I'm going to ask on the officials.

That leaves the mist-blades place and spellbound needing updated, unless there have been other changes I don't know about.

Did Haliste boost the unlocked mistblade specs? Why the price increase to 2500?

Because they are now uncommon flares (instead of common before).

They are still fully unlocked Mist script and 5x. There are also more weapon types.

What flares did the golvern basilard have at 1000 bloodscrip, and what does it have now?

They've made it pretty clear things can change from run to run. I get your gripe, but it is what it is. 2500 is still small bones.

Not necessarily a gripe. Just can't find any current information on it. An increase from about 1.3m to 3m is not small bones, but I mainly just want to know what it is.

So its just scripts or am I missing something? No flare, binding,or other power?

as far as I know, it's just fluff.

the weapons themselves have flares besides the mist-blade properties. for instance, the falx has grapple flares. I don't know about the others.

Well, basilard has disintegration, not sure if it's the same enchant, last time Basilard and Falx were 5x.... but for 1000 bloodscrip, now they're 2500, so who knows.

Katana has standard weighting and is +22.... not sure on the others, should all be at least 5x.

>>For Mar and Scar: Can we get a definitive listing of which items have which flares? Some seem obvious, some I have no clue on.

a pair of vruul hide gloves charred with fiery runes (+30) Fire
a blued zorchar flamberge banded down the blade in solid white - (+30) Lightning
a square-headed imflass hammerbeak fluted with veniom - (+27) Air/Steam
a circular imflass moon axe fluted with veniom - (+27) Air/Steam
a gornar-tipped ranseur adorned with uncut gemstones (+30) Earth/Vibe
a gnarled ironwood runestaff capped with a sphere of ur-barath (+30) Gravity/Vacuum
a jagged-edged blue rhimar warblade flecked with silver inclusions (+30) Ice
a jagged-edged crimson drakar warblade streaked with gold flecks (+30) Fire
an ur-barath-runed pike with a faenor spearhead (+28) Gravity/Vacuum [NEW]
a tri-headed vaalorn spikestar with a heavy rhimar chain (+28) Ice [NEW]

Also, added a hunk of red ur-barath in the shop. This is just alter fodder to use at a merchant to adorn your item with ur-barath. It can't be the primary material, unless a small little trinket. This is one of the new materials we released during HSN.

is this not a THW with greater lightening flares? I thought so, but I guess you would want to know for sure if you were thinking of picking it up.
