I just wanted to go ahead and make a new thread to officially welcome all of the new F2P characters that have been lurking around the forums. I've been doing my best to make the rounds between the cities, handing out 902s, claids, whatever you all need to get up and running.
A lot has changed over the years. The first thing that I'd like to do is recommend Lich. While there is definitely a stigma attached to... well... basically mods... Lich offers a series of nice features that assist in returners, but the main things that I'm going to highlight are Narost, Go2, and Lnet.
Narost (Tsoran backwards) is a map integration script which pulls down all of the most updated maps created by the player community. As you move around Elanthia, Narost will automatically re-center and adjust to ensure that you can see the rooms around you.
Narost directly interfaces with Go2. Clicking directly on the map will input all of the movement commands to reach the destination room. Additionally, Go2 comes with pre-programed places. So you can simply type ;go2 town to return to TSC, or ;go2 bank, ;go2 pawnshop. It just takes a lot of the redundancy out of it.
You may realize shortly upon returning that the crystal amulet is nothing but crickets... even with the introduction of a global thought amulet. A lot of socializing / merchanting occurs on Lnet / Merchant channel nowadays. Don't think of it so much as breaking the third wall so much as being a replacement to signing into AOL Instant Messenger and talking with your friends through something like that.
If you do feel like any of these features breaks your immersion in the game, you can always disable subsets of them. Or don't install it at all. Really the intent of this post is to let you know that it's available to you, and that you'll have a great support team that will be able to assist you in re-integrating into society. I'd hate for someone to give up on returning to gemstone because they felt isolated and couldn't get any help!
That brings me to my last point. I know many of us are doing our best, but if anyone ever needs any help, whether it be training advice, simple command information, etc... Please don't hesitate to reach out to me and ask. I can also provide claids or other less basic starting equipment. Like I said, I'm just happy to see all of the new blood out there and such interest in returning.
