I use Thondalar as a perfect example....hes (as of a few days ago!) 34th level. 34th level, and yet he is co-chairman of the largest player organization (House) in the game. Ardwen, Jeril, have no problems with me singing to their stuff, even with my character's relatively low level, because they know I know what the fuck I'm looking at. Its all about the song. I wouldn't go so far as to say a level 5 bard could get the same info as Japhrimel, but the song itself really means a lot...the rhyme and measure...it really is an art form, and these people who tell you different are hacks, and that's all there is to it. Never once had a wrong song.

Anyway, my point is, you can have a character, a viable character who plays an active role in things, and it doesn't have to be capped. If you want to go the capped route, you certainly can...if you want to just have a character you like to play, and gets involved in the normal day-to-day runnings of the world...you can do that too!

Its really one of the few reasons why this game is still so relevant to a lot of us.

If you just want new folks to try out rp or try out the limited combat system for a short time before moving on to another game, I'd say we're on the right track here. Because you get to do nothing else for free, it seems. Not even a profile quote. I would submit that too much focus was put on not making current subscribers want to downgrade and not enough was put upon making any player want to play/keep playing. You have my feedback. I'll bill you accordingly.

I started a wizard, and it's level 5 now. I think a wizard will be one of the few successful F2P account options (For spellbots). A receiving pass is 10 simucoins, so for 10 cents you can get 4 hours worth of spells. If you only play for 4 hours each day, over 30 days, you have wizard spells for $3.00 per month instead of $14.95. Even if you play for 8 hours per day, it's still only $6 per month for a wizard spell bot.

If you also had a ranger, you could have a majority of the beneficial spells, further reducing that cost.

It will take longer, but considering how long some people have played, it will pay off over time, and the account is free, so it doesn't cost anything while you level. We also still don't know how much they have nerfed experience absorption.

I just googled DragonRealms F2P, Gemstone F2P, Simutronics F2P.

I looked on all the MUD websites.

Unless you are an ex-player who still reads here, there is ZERO marketing.

I want them to succeed, I really do. I think Coase, Ted, and whomever else is running dev did an amazing amount of work. Management, no so much, I don't have any animosity towards Bubba other than a silly email exchange recently, but without really getting out there to tell people "WE STILL HERE!" "TRY US OUT".

TopMudSites still shows a free 30 day trial that went the way of the dodo. Marketing plans are part of any new releases (well, that you plan to make money off of, no one was gonna market the sorc nerfs in Growing Pains 2! Heh! I so got stuck with that one).

It's more of a problem with topmudsites and mudconnect in that we've tried to contact their admins and they really don't respond. The forums seem to be active, but more for the MUD community and we're not voiced often. I think we've been better the past year and we have popped up on Facebook and Reddit a decent amount. Advertisement for MUDs seems to be word of mouth and that's about it.

Really? Maybe twenty years ago, but those days are LONG gone. They probably couldn't figure out a way to allow theft while maintaining silver and item limits so they just turned it off for free accounts.

I don't think it's that, necessarily. It may be due in part to how many new accounts were rolled up. I really hope it's not someone going "hey, they can still receive spells, gotta fix that" because that's just fucked.

I thought F2P spells were self cast only though?

If it's what you say.. then it's actually a real feature for F2P.. so I can receive spells from another F2P character, regardless of whether he has a F2P Spell Pass?

Resurrecting this a bit. I just tried F2P after 10 years not playing and really enjoyed myself. Now, I resubbed and looked at one of my toons, even asked for help on here and apparently his stat and skill choices are abysmal! So this may force me to reroll anyway, but I'm glad I stepped in. My older guy has loads of fame and some nice, custom items that I'd like to pass down. Heck, maybe I could even just pass them down to f2p and play from there.

One of the things I'm struggling with is I don't remember which house I'm a member of! I go to the public lockers and it's telling me I have a House locker. It's very possible it's House Sovyn, but can't be sure :)

If no one has suggested it yet on your other thread(s)... you should have access to a yearly FIXSKILL which can allow you to change up your skill choices. FIXSTAT potions are also available, if you want to change up your stats without rerolling (assuming your toon is of a decent level where you'd rather not reroll), but those potions can be kind of expensive.
