So I just came back after a few months break. I had issues from time to time with Lich not recognizing water walking and me drowning on my way through maelstrom bay. But Now I cant seem to make it across the bay with Lich, or myself. I think I am doing something wrong.
I have water walking...
I enter the bay...and immediately sink with 10 sec roundtime between rooms.
Your extreme weight makes it possible to move slowly along the bottom.
Round time: 10 sec.
Now, normally I would say maybe i need to lose some weight. But I never had this problem before with Water Walking. I never had to strip down or take off armor etc. So why is it all of the sudden not working?
Should i be GOing West, or Swimming West? or what? Maybe I am not moving correctly. This is really frustrating since its blocking me from hunting.
I tried ;magic clear + spell active, still no dice. I tried manually going through, still sink.

When you have waterwalking on, you should be MOVING not SWIMMING.
Obviously, I would look further in to "Your extreme weight".
I've never actually seen what you're encountering while using waterwalking.

My mage hunts at somewhat all the time, occasionally he is heavier than that when he has too much junk on him, and he uses water walking and has never sunk, any heavier than that and maneuver attacks seems to eat him alive anyhow so I have never tried at a heavier load. Lich knows when you have water walking on.

And I've had that issue occasionally and used the spell active technique and that's always fixed it.

type encumbrance and see if you're weighed down

"You are beginning to stoop under the load you are carrying, and your reactions are slow. Hope you don't have to dodge anything."
Its really weird because both my characters are having this problem and they arent that badly encumbered.

Did you switch armor recently and maybe aren't trained enough for it? I don't know, maybe the sinking system and melee rt are related in as much that if you aren't properly trained, even with water walking, you're going to sink?

No new armor, I only came back from a long break and had some problems getting the new lich installed, but now its working so far as I can tell.

The Monastery entrance pool and Maelstrom Bay have been updated to like Water Walking more.
Water Walking, in both instances, no longer restricts players from swimming below the surface of the water. Both areas have also been tweaked to grant players with Water Walking a bonus to swimming difficulties.

They must have done some stealth changes how the spell works with the above update. Before I had no problem clearing out my loot, and water walking across the bay. Now I tested it. You need to be WAYYY less encumbered to not sink. So basically the spell is now useless to me. As a caster I dont hunt with 0 encumbrance sorry. This wasnt mentioned in the change, but it is a clear change, and now the spell is completely worthless. Looks like I may need to find a totally new hunting area with no swimming involved now. This sucks.

I was going to ask if you had been previously using those SimuCoin encumbrance potions and now it has worn off. You're saying that nothing changed with your encumbrance and you're confident the check now requires you to have much less encumbrance?

I would post on the officials to get clarification on this, unless you already have. Because that is a pretty big change if so. Not sure how much encumbrance you are going OUT with, but coming back I would only be encumbered by the boxes and coins I found. That usually wasn't a problem, even when I occasionally had to swim it.

You would think more people would be complaining about this if the water walking mechanic were changed to make everyone sink when encumbered ... I think its likely something else is going on?

It was, in fact, a bug. The changes KEIOs made also screwed up the floating mechanics in maelstrom bay (only, it seems) which would explain why not many complained.
I've done some testing and reviewing of the code, and I see what has happened here.
The code for handling the walking on the bottom of the bay is not exactly clear and concise. Short story, the way the mechanics of the area are supposed to work is open for debate based on how the old code was written.
I've restored the mechanics for walking on the surface to how the code worked previously, with no danger of sinking. Players will also still be able to SWIM beneath the surface with Waterwalking applied for a swim bonus. Please be aware, though, that your perfect buoyancy with waterwalking only applies for WALKING on the surface. If you decide to SWIM, your buoyancy will go back to being calculated based on your encumberance and swimming skill.

Good news is, he said he fixed it. Will try it tonight when I get home.
I play a Wizard in rivers rest. If i am Very Heavy or heavier with water walking or not i sink to the bottom. this is using robes and 24 ranks in swimming.
