I tend to hate the dirty city more than the Yankees. Been there once, hated it.

And the Yankees are my number 2 hate, right behind the city itself.

The city isn't bad if you don't go in the subway and stay in the nice parts! And only stay for like two hours.

Alfster
10-12-2004, 11:14 PM
I spent 4 days, was forced to ride the subways, and spent over 200 dollars in one night at a bar, on just myself, and it rained the whole tiime.

That makes me not like the city.

I was paying very little attention to the pregame show, but I distinctly remember hearing that the game was not going to be high scoring and the predicted maximum runs was 5-4.

I also remember saying to myself, "This game is going to have a lot of runs." I should be on TV, not that guy.

Heh! I've been a Yankees fan since the 80's when they utterly sucked. I guess it doesn't help that I lived in NYC for 7 years through college, and grew up about a half hour away.

On a lighter note... You Sox fans... Your feeble attempts at lifting the curse are futile!

Eh, it's the same exact game that it was last night.

And last night's game wasn't exactly exciting.

If the Sox win tonight, it'll make shutting them down in the Bronx that much more satisfying.

Honestly, when they show shots of the crowd, how can you really take the Sox seriously when they've got fans wearing their hats inside-out and praying?

ROFL. The dude praying had me cracking up too.

However I am a bit disappointed we didn't sweep them. I wanted that more than anything. Red Sox fans can be so obnoxious. Pretty amazing since they've not won a World Series since 1918.

For those crappy bunts, the Red Sox deserve (even more than usual) to lose. However, for talking back to the umpire about 19 times (Sheffield, you ass), the Yankees deserve (even more than usual) to lose.

I'd also like to point out Sheffield's comments in SI, diminishing Ichiro's accomplishment. You're 0 for what tonight, Shef? That's what I thought.

I hate it when officials try to balance out the crappy calls they gave to one team by giving crappy calls to the other team. Hate it, hate it, hate it.

Weedmage Princess
10-18-2004, 10:49 PM
Yeah well we all knew that Sheffield isn't exactly what you'd call a class act.

I had started to comment about Schilling's comments at the beginning of the series and how he said he'd shut up 55,000 New Yorkers then turned around and pitched like shit. Then I had to bite my tongue cause Sheffield's up there calling everyone on the Red Sox characters and saying they don't want to win, etc. He's one of those people who needs a good kick in the teeth.

Honestly, at this point, I hope the Sox win. To come up from 0 games to 3 to tie the series, they deserve it at this point.

And yes, I'm allowed to say that. Born and raised in NYC, but my permanent home is in MA and am a Pats fan, so :P

I just hope that if the Sox do make it to the World Series, they'd win and get over this Yankees grudge and self-pitying attitude they have. Those are the only things that's keeping the Sox from being a respectable ball club, and it's entirely the fans fault.

Fuck the sox. However I give Schilling a lot of credit for going out there and pitching a lights out game with his ankle bleeding all over the place. Hes a trooper and get my respect. The rest of them .. fuck off.

It's okay, tonight will only make the inevitable heart wrenching Yankees win in Game 7 even more entertaining.

P.S. Yankees Suck!!!! What's up with ARod knocking the ball out of Arroyo's hand and then getting mad about it when he gets called back? :noob:

Exactly.

Game 7:

Yankees 10
Red Sox 3

Blame it on the curse again... it's the only answer.

I curse must and will be broken this year. How can you support the Axis of Evil that is the Yankees, Jeter, and New York fans?

After the game, they had a little video montage. My favorite clips, shown in succession:

Jeter in the dugout, making the safe sign.
The umpire conference breaks up, an umpire points at ARod, and makes the out sign.
ARod says "WHA I DO?!??", like a middle schooler.

Priceless.

What was the deal with the riot police?

Did they expect the fans to rush the field? Yankees fans aren't that bloodthirsty. I'd expect that in Boston (how fun would it be to see Sox fans vaulting over the green monster?) where the fans crave blood like some sort of weird sports vampire.

Latrinsorm
10-20-2004, 12:44 PM
For non-bloodthirsty folks, they sure didn't hesitate to pelt the field with debris whenever a call didn't go their way.

They were probably more worried about the baseballs, and I wouldn't put it past New Yorkers to chuck batteries (John Rocker day, heh), but yeah.

It doesn't matter who wins this series. Neither are going to get past the Astros.

Eh, Boston fans threw almost every Yankee-hit foul ball and homerun back onto the field.

The thing is, Yankees fans don't hate the Red Sox. They don't like'em, sure, but it's more of a pity-dislike.

Mention the Yankees to a Red Sox fan, and you can practically see their eyes turn red and horns beging to sprout from their head.

Just look at the newspaper headlines. When it was discovered that the Sox would be going against the Yanks in the ALCS, almost every Boston paper had huge front page banners proclaiming that the time for revenge was nigh! Fear the apocalypse of the Red Sox vs. Yankees!

In the New York papers, it was just briefly mentioned in a few blurbs here and there, with the front page headlines actually devoted to IMPORTANT stories.

10-20-2004, 03:08 PM
I hope some (most) Yankees players get some sort of serious injury. FUCK THE YANKEES.

Damon lost so much standing in my eyes when he failed so badly at bunting. C'mon, Damon.

Yeah, but keep in mind the fans in the stadium didn't have the benefit of instant replay to see what happened with that call.

All they saw was the ball drop to the ground.

All they saw was the ball drop to the ground. When you get right down it, the kind of person who would throw crap onto a Major League Baseball field is barely out of the pubescent mentality. They're even worse than the clowns who tried to tackle that first base coach. I have seen some badly blown calls in my time, but there's no call that could possibly justify endangering the careers and livelihoods of players and umpires.
