New information from GM Estild:

Dark Catalyst's (719) Elemental Lore bonus is a bit convoluted. I will tell you this: at 10 ranks of the appropriate lore, it almost adds one crit rank to the relevant damage cycle, at 50 lore ranks it adds 2 crit ranks, and at 100 lore ranks it adds 3 crit ranks. It's a flat modifier and the warding margin is not a factor. If you're wanting to crit kill with Dark Catalyst, the lore benefit is pretty good, although admittedly, you don't receive much other benefit with those ranks (at least until the Elemental Lore Review for the Minor Elemental spell circle).

Hmm. That is VERY different from what I remember Nilven telling us. Thanks again, Silvean.

Interesting. Will update lore chart in the near future. Estild seems to be more forthcoming than Nilven ever was

My theory is that Wyrom put a build your own sundae bar in the GM lounge and that has changed everything.

that's fairly interesting. a hefty investment but a minimum rank 4 on a 101 endroll, of the correct element that is, is no joke.

There definitely is. The numbers I provided were for reference and not threshold ranks.

So....Elemental Lore is mentioned for this - what are your takes on which is the "best" Lore to train in? Is it pretty much dependent on the crit messaging? I know some creatures scoff at Air. Do you have to ATTUNE as a Sorc to get the full benefit?

A lot will depend on what you're hunting. If a given creature has a weakness and you'll be hunting it for some time, then I would put ranks into that. However, lores are expensive to train in and you'd likely be better off just dumping those extra points into CS or extra mana until pretty far past cap.

Attune has no effect on Dark Catalyst. Here are the spells which Attunement (https://gswiki.play.net/mediawiki/index.php/Attunement) influences.

I'd wait for the fabled Elemental Lore Review before investing in E-lores, personally.

I have been keeping 1 rank in each elemental lore with the assumption that will 'initiate' the minimum benefit. With this news i'm thinking about extending that to 10 ranks in each, though not until I finish my current post-cap goal.

The old post we have from Nilven says, "The spell's bonus works off ranks. Benefit starts to be seen from 3 ranks and onwards."

Even that is 84 MTPs for the lowest possible benefit, which doesn't necessarily equate to one crit rank's worth of benefit. Doesn't seem worth it IMO.

I'll probably get to 3x spells, 1x CM, and 2x perception before I even think about it. That's somewhere in the range of double cap, I believe. Still, the idea of having a juiced up Dark Catalyst is fun.

One can hope that by that time the E-lore review will take place.
