After many years of integration with the fighting techniques of warriors, rogues and monks, all professions can now learn a new combat maneuver. Unarmed specialist. Monks are primarily unarmed specialists by nature and know this maneuver without having to train in it.

It grants the ability to use some combat maneuvers without requiring a weapon in hand. The following maneuvers are affected by unarmed specialist; disarm, feint, subdue, subdual strike, and cheapshots.

All professions can train to be unarmed specialists. The maneuver will cost squares 6, semis 9, and pures 12 CMAN points to learn.

For more detailed information on this maneuver, please see the CMAN HELP command. For 30 days following this release (until 03/31/2015) this skill will have instant point migration.

~Contemplar~

Why they are hiding these announcements I have no idea. I have started a wiki page (https://gswiki.play.net/mediawiki/index.php/Unarmed_Specialist) for it as well as updated the main cman list pages. Someone with more CMAN knowledge than I should fill it in, like Mark :)

better than nothing, though at least disarm already worked at 5 ranks before unarmed, i think feint as well but i forget.

does anyone even use cheapshots other than bored rogues? i guess for a monk if you could get swiftkick as a stance forcer instead of feint (but then you don't get feint protection) and get throatchop for your trouble for caster woes. does anyone even use throatchop? i want to say it sucks.

Contemplar? New GM?

He's a contemplative templar. Clever portmanteau word.

Both feint and disarm at rank 5 let you use it unarmed. I wouldn't bother with throatchop as a monk as mental dispel (1218) is awesome for shutting down casters.

Throatchop sucks, but templeshot can be useful.

But is he new?

The more I think about this new CM the more I dislike it.

yeah, it's not great. more like a bug fix for unarmed monks and they just kinda threw it in there for, i guess mainly UAC rogues. Asking about throatchop because 1218 is damn expensive, especially in the early levels. having a viable stamina based silence might be ok.

i guess if you're a monk and you picked up cheapshots to help with bandits, you get a fun diversion to screw around with? and now you can actually use feint/disarm if you're picking those up at less than 5 ranks

Yeah its actually really nice for monks for feint if nothing else. I had asked for it on the officials awhile back, glad to see it happen.

So basically it's for lower level characters. A temporary CM. Seems like a waste of CM points if you ask me.

I think it would be useful for more than low level characters, generally people spread out cman training so rank 5 isn't seen till mid levels at least. Its cheaper than training in rank 5 just to get the bare hand option, too.

It'd be nice is this maneuver gave you additional offensive bonuses to unarmed CMANS if you already have the ability to do it barehanded.

Yeah, needs some teeth added to it.

I know, I'm talking for classes that would actually use this CM.
