View Full Version : For all you people living in MA
All you people living in the good ol' Massachusetts:
Is it just me or have you noticed a ridiculous amount of pulled over cars on I-95 and I-93. Hell, even on 495 the Staties seem to be pulling people over left and right. Lots of new undercover vehicles such as black Chevy pick-ups and the like. Has anyone else noticed the increase or is it just me?

Hmmm...I've never noticed. Then again I only drove on I-95 and I-90 like once in 6 months. Hmmmm...can't say that I have buddy.
It's been recent and hella bad around where I live (Norwood, right near Dedham and Walpole about 20 minutes from Boston). Hit the hiway and you'll see staties PWNing people left and right.

Yes, I have.
There are also an increased amount of speed traps too. For the past month (maybe longer) every night in the 93 tunnels right around the first curve (both directions) there's like 5 cars and a slew of cops out with radar guns out catching people who come flying into the tunnels.
They also as of late been putting up on the LED signs "Show Road Respect, Police Seek Agressive Drivers."
I can't say it's a bad thing because a lot of the people here do drive WAY too agressively.
At least I'm not crazy.
The thing is, you NEED to drive agressively around here. If you live here, you know the fucking disaster that the morning commute is. It's come to the point of making me want to cry. Now, we got these speed traps and the like all over the place. Guess the cops arn't making the quotas.

I'd say if you have to commute in the AM, ride the T but...
You take your life into your own hands doing that. Every month someone gets shot/stabbed on it.

I know around here in WA, there has been a big shabang about road rage and speeders. News reports, stuff in the papers, etc. They are saying its on a huge upcline as of late.
Its true too. My friend (whom I normally get rides from) drives about 4-5 mph over the speed limit on avarage. Well, we get passed by nearly every single person on the road. It feels like your standing still. Its crazy.

Heh, only monthly? Considering the amount of people who ride the T daily, i'd say those stats aren't bad. Mind your own business, and don't fuck around with people. You'll be fine.

Silly me I thought shooting and stabbing people was against the law. That if you felt you were being accosted, you should talk to law enforcement, not whip out your "gat" and "bust a cap in someone's bitch ass."
Thanks for the enlightenment!
Public transportation only works well in the city. Going from suburbs to the city, you GOTTA have a car. No way around it.

There's the commuter rail, if you don't mind the possibility of getting your radio stolen when you park in their parking lots..heh.
But you're right. The public transportation system in general isn't extensive enough for someone to live outside of greater Boston without a car. Hell, even within greater Boston it's still not a good idea. The T only runs up til a certain time anyway. A car is a necessity.
I still think the crackdown is not totally a bad thing. You do need to drive aggressively to a point but there are some people who are plain out of control. Drunk driver rates seem to have dropped a touch too.
I agree with the over zealous drivers, but it seems that the cops are really cracking down on even the most minor of infractions as well. Take for instance this, I was pulled over recently for going 5 miles over the speed limit. That's right, five. The cop wasn't even using speed radar thing. It's gotten to the point of, "WTF, shouldn't you be out stopping the murder rates in Dorchester?"

This is so true. I live in Woosta and I'll drive my car 2 blocks down the street to my boys house, lolz. I could walk there, but over here it's abnormal to walk or take the bus, or even call a cab. In the Metro area it's normal to take a cab or ride the T. I would be insane to take a bus from here to my work in Marlboro everyday. Oh bump that, I drive. I've prolly taken the T once in Boston and that was amusing. Other than that, I've always driven around in Boston and traffic sucks. I try to run over every damn pedestrian that crosses the damn street when there's a green light! Stupid pedestrians. They need to start giving them tickets, that's what they should do!

You could drive to Brighton and take the express bus downtown. Brighton gives you free parking on some of the side streets, and near the bus stop for the Express, it's mostly residential and pretty decent. Right up near the Newton town line off Brighton Ave.
Plus if you get stuck in the city after the last express bus returns to Brighton, there are non-express busses, and it's only 5 blocks from the Green Line. So it's not too tough of a walk if worse comes to worse.
I used to live across the street from the bus stop and it was pretty awesome. The only downside, is that the express only runs I think once every half hour.
The good side, is that there's a Dunkin Donuts in the area so you can grab a coffee and a bagel if you have to get there early.

In the long-run, it'll probably be a good thing. MA drivers are fucking insane, and that's coming from somebody who learned how to drive in NYC. I don't care that MA drivers go fast, hell, I've been known to go above 100 once or twice, but MA drivers generally do about 85 and swerve in and out of lanes without using their signals. Not to mention that fucking breakdown lane shit that turns an exit into Russian roullette.
When I first moved to MA, I was shocked, because I didn't think there could be drivers actually WORSE than New Jersey drivers.
But yeah, they shouldn't really be going for minor infractions. I generally go about 74 MPH in a 65 zone, as only going 9 mph above the limit is usually not enough to send a cop after you or to trigger radars. But if cops are going after people for going 5 mph above? That's absurd. Hell, the pace of traffic in MA is usually around 80.

Now yea, I've driven all over the place, and MA drivers are the worst in freaking North America. And it isn't just Boston, they drive that way all over southern New England whether there's congestion or not. So if the staties want to pwn all the fools who just have to risk everyone's lives to save ninety seconds extra, I'm all for it. I'm in the truck with the red and silver paint, toodling along at 67 MPH on the right hand side.
Canton!??!?! Fuck, that's all of 10 minutes. Everyone else is damn close to me too. STOP STALKING ME

You think it's bad there...it's been worse here in Wisconsin. I live in a town that has 5 cop cars, and three days ago driving down the main drag (all of a mile) I saw 5 different cars pulled over...by our only 5 cop cars, now thats bad.

Some town near me (Dunstable?) only has one patrol car. The police station used to be a single room in the town hall.

My cabin is up by Rice Lake, but I live in Central Wisconsin
That's a nice place to have a cabin. I spent my summers up in Northern Wisconsin around the Manitowish Waters/Minoqua area. Stayed at many camping sites along Rice Lake if I remember correctly. Spider Lake as well.

Spider lake, about 10 of my friends have a cabin on that lake, my cabin's (well, my parents but their never there) actually on big Chetek lake, great fishing up there. Especially bottle bass!
People actually live in Wisconsin? I knew of two people that I went to Basic with, but other than that, I thought they were the only ones.

Yah, I get that a lot. That, and, "Hey, you must fuck your sister, you're from Wisconsin!"
I'll tell you what, this is how to tell if someone's from Wisconsin.
Step 1: Goto a bar, that sells cheap beer, preferrably a dollar or less for a CAN, old style or Pabst are good choices.
Step 2: Find the only person there drinking two of them at the same time.
Yup, that's how you can find someone from Wisconsin.
 Wisconsin is alot of fun in the Summer though. Brings back memories.

can't believe I missed this one.
Springfield...
Yeah, it's getting bad here with the cops. I don't mind is so bad but we have idiots that slam on the brake when they are allready going under the limit!
Took me over an hour and a half to get from Enfield to Westover just because I-91 had 5 marked cars along the way.
It's very hard to not have road rage.

An hour and a half to get from Enfield to Westover? Man, you can WALK there about that fast!
Thing is New England drivers aren't about traffic. People drive all fucked up like that around Springfield too, and the only "rush hour" Springfield has is the 91 curve past Exit 2 sometimes, the bridge to Agawam, and there's about a 3 minute backup at the X during rush.
Lots of folk in Boston'd give their virgin sisters to orcs to get a 3 minute rush hour backup.
