some tanned doeskin britches (probably 15+ years old)
You carefully examine the doeskin britches and determine that the weight is about 4 pounds (lightened once so far).
You estimate that some tanned doeskin britches can store a medium amount with enough space for a couple of items.
You determine that you could wear the britches on your legs. The britches appears to serve some purpose.
You analyze your doeskin britches and sense that the item is free from merchant alteration restrictions.
You might be able to have a talented merchant lighten the doeskin britches for you or have its pockets deepened.
Still able to be deepened further. I haven't found a merchant to make them hold more than 2 items yet, but that isn't apparently out of the question (around 10 years ago, I had another pair of these deepened in a way that allowed them to hold any number of items).
As it stands currently, you can store two incredibly large weapons in the britches. I just put a massive maul and a claidhmore in them... Any thoughts on value?

According to several dozen merchants when having things lightened/deepened, I've been told, quite simply that an item's item space will not expand, no matter what. Every merchant I've ever asked has said the same thing. If it says 2 items, it stays 2 items. But they can make it hold 60lbs if each item is 30lbs.
Also, merchants do not like to make pants/boots/gloves/hats/belts/shit like that hold more than 10-20lbs at best. 20lbs is the epic deepen level stated and confirmed at RTCF/CCF last year, and the rule has not changed since then.
Good luck in your value request.

I bet for fun you run around twirling your mustache whilst puncturing children's balloons.

Well, I just had a merchant turn down increasing the item limit for me, but they had no problem with the deepening request (which I opted against). There seems little point in increasing the weight limit of a pair of pants that can only hold 2 items beyond what it can currently hold.
In the distant past I had Sakura alter my britches into a loincloth, which was a rare thing of that time, but apparently loincloths are fairly common now. After that, I won a roshambo contest, and the host "deepened" the loincloth to allow it to hold any number of items. Folks were often shocked to see me pulling very large weapons from my loincloth, and/or chests and boxes from my hunts...
That item sold for like 5-6mil a few years back. Pants that can hold this much weight are rare to say the least, but does that make them valuable? I'm sure, with the right alteration, these could be made into something fairly interesting as a container attached to the legs.

Out of curiousity, will the current mechanics prevent, say, placing a backpack full of 25-30 pounds (or whatever the weight limit currently is) worth of gems in these pants? There's something to say for storing your armor in your pants, though.
...meh, just answered my own question testing my own crap. Going with no, no it won't.

Thanks, I appreciate bringing this back on topic, and with a useful reply no less!
