Anyone playing it? If so, what's your opinion? It bothers me they (mostly) waited until the day of release to hand out any copies for review. All of the major outlets are marathoning the game to try to get their analysis out the door.
I'm still on the fence about picking it up.

Feels like that's the industry standard now to mitigate the effects of bad reviews. The ones I'm seeing on Steam seem to consider it a legitimately good game.
The open world survival genre is getting pretty crowded though, especially for a $60 release.

The withholding of review copies scared me off of it for now. Trying to decide if I want to pre-order "Evolve."

I've asked around a bit and found that there are no auto-fail stealth missions and free roam once you're free of the initial storyline introduction. I've decided to pick this up later today. Hopefully it runs alright, supposed to be quite a resource hog.

It isn't well optimized and long play sessions make me a bit nauseous, but on the whole I enjoy it.

I'm assuming you got it on PC?
Some of the videos I've seen make it look pretty intense at night.

It looks a LOT like the Dead Island series which were decent but flawed games. I guess the devs split from Deep Silver early on, but it seems like they used a lot of the same assets.

Yeah, PC. I haven't played at night. Haven't advanced the plot. Just having fun drop kicking zombies off bridges. It's a lot of fun.

Games at night... man... nobody does that scary shit anymore.
I remember being a teenager playing EQ. Game was all daytime nice and purdy.... walkin through Kithicor Forest... little level 10 will-o-wisps floating around, giving zero fucks..
And then the sun set....
And fucking level 50 zombies crawled up out of the ground and came after your ass to eat your brains from the other side of the zone!
Seems boring but to a 12 year old, shit got scary.

Speaking of scary games, as soon as I get a day off I'm downloading Resident Evil on ps4. Talk about nostalgia.

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.
Only one in the series I can honestly say startled the shit out of me at times. You'd be creeping down a dark alley, looking all around, knowing the zombies are nearby...oh, there they are, up ahead...blamblamblam...ok, they're dead, now I should probably
AAAAAHHHHHHH HOLY SHIT WHAT THE FUCK
as the Nemesis comes smashing through a wall to start beating the shit out of you from fucking nowhere.

I liked 3, but fuck 2. No offense. It was easy as shit. The original was a legitimate challenge. This was before you could get on the Internet and find every answer. I breezed through 2 in one night.

Finally played at night. ATM the volatiles are unkillable, but I imagine that will change. Regardless, the style of play changes dramatically. Fun, but very hard.

The Devs have just released a suite of mod tools for players to create their own content. Dying Light will be on Steamworks as well.

Yeah, it's definitely everything the Dead Island games should have been.
