I will start by saying that I generally enjoy using ;child2 (I wouldn't use it otherwise), but recently I started playing a bard and noticed that when I use ;child2 it would cast a spell at creatures and fail. Repeatedly. Wasting my mana, which sucks for a low-level bard who needs to go hunt to fry after rescuing a kid.

Looking at my log, I saw this:

[child2]>prepare 1011
--- Lich: step2 has exited.
You change your tune slightly, adding the element for Song of Peace to your song...
Your spellsong is ready.
[child2]>cast target
You weave another verse into your harmony, directing the sound of your voice at a bone golem.
Your spell misfires.
Sing Roundtime 3 Seconds.
(Forcing stance down to guarded)

So basically, ;child2 keeps trying and failing to cast song of peace at creatures when that's not how the spell works (it should just be incanted in this case, or perhaps renewed if it's up... I don't know the details here since I'm new at barding).

Additionally, ;child2 tried to cast in this situation:

[River's Rest, Merchants' Walk]
The swift sound of rushing water is barely audible for the shops which nestle along the riverbank. Sturdily built to withstand the elements, Felinium's Fur Emporium, Diamante's Gemshop and Hortinger's Armory stand open to those with silver to spare. The flow of traffic thins to the east, although many who leave the shops here continue on that way, most with smiles but a few grumbling about thieves. The sound of laughter occasionally drifts in from the north. You also see a one-eared rabbit, an aardvark, a robed human priestess and a weathered canvas tent.
Obvious paths: northeast, east, southeast, west
--- Lich: step2 has exited.
[child2]>prepare 1011
You change your tune slightly, adding the element for Song of Peace to your song...
Your spellsong is ready.
[child2]>cast target
What were you referring to?

It's good that it was trying to cast a peaceful spell in town, but it's still a waste of mana to target Fluffy and Snuffy and could potentially have ended badly if it had not been a peaceful spell (or at least would have been bad if it recognized them as targets).

Anyway, I don't want to mess around with ;child2 since Moredin wrote it and ruby isn't really my thing so I'd probably just break it if I tried. If Moredin is still around or if someone else is willing to poke at it, that would be awesome though.

Incant would work...iirc ;repo info child2 should give directions on removing the casting part.

1011 will renew itself automatically with the rest of your bard songs when they cycle, if you have it up, but you don't need to renew it to affect a room you walk in to...the affect follows you. I usually start singing it when the kid comes out and stop singing it when I drop him off...the "sanct" affect should take over the room before the kid shows up as you're moving.

Thanks. I'll try playing around with that next time I'm on.

I probably don't want to remove casting from my version of child2 entirely either, since it works just fine for my ranger.

Never actually used it on my bard, but I think you can just remove 1011 from the list, and then it shouldn't try to cast it anymore, and won't affect your ranger. Alternately you could just manually cast 1011 before you start child2...when child2 tries to cast, it'll just say you're already singing that spellsong and won't cost you any mana.
