RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) -- Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah, the powerful U.S. ally who joined Washington's fight against al-Qaida and sought to modernize the ultraconservative Muslim kingdom with incremental but significant reforms, including nudging open greater opportunities for women, has died, according to Saudi state TV. He was 90.

Uh-oh. I hope the new king is as much of America's bitch as he was. Change in that part of the region is never good!

Apparently he is 79 and suffering from Alzheimer's and dementia.

I'll be the King of Saudi Arabia. The guy was like 80 when he became king in 2005 anyways. He wasn't expected to last long.
Interesting they don't call him Shah, but I suppose Saudi Arabia was never really under the Persians.
