First time I ever watched Sportscenter, he and Scott Van Pelt were the hosts. I was immediately hooked. Still think he was the best host ESPN's ever had.

Yep, I can still hear him doing his spiel when I think about Sportscenter. Haven't watched ESPN much lately, so I didn't even know he was dealing with cancer and was pretty surprised Sunday when I heard he was gone.

Sports have a weird power to bring humanity together. I'm not saying that people watch them primarily for that reason. But you can see some evidence of what I'm saying with the response to Stuart Scott's death.
