View Full Version : 7x (or similar) naginata
I used to have a nice 7x t1 naginata. Wish I had it back.
I'll pay 5.5m for a 7x vanilla naginata.
Update (8/3/2015): No longer want.

how bout an old style nagi? can be 411ed
I don't understand old-style nagis. My impression is that they have the AvD of halbards and actually give you +20 AS. In that case, it's the same endroll as a 0x newstyle nagi, isn't it? What am I misunderstanding?

Old school naginata were "naturally" 4x (and able to be blessed easily) or you could eblade it with 411 to be 8x and flaring while eblade lasted.
Right, but newstyle 0x naginatas are ebladeable, too, right? So you end up with the same endrolls?

There is nothing really unusual about new style naginata, well, that is not entirely true, there is a bonus of 20 to AvD, how you interpret that bonus over a halberd is a topic of some debate but from my understanding of the combat system, which I admit is limited, 20 AvD does not equate to 20 AS. Most specifically it does not add to increased chance of actually striking the target.
If new style are enchanted then they are not able to be e-bladed but they can be blessed, my warmage used one for 15 trains before he went pure and with the addition of the flares it worked very well. The long and short is they are fast and hit pretty hard. A lance is still the weapon of choice for poles, but encumbrance being what it is you can quickly slow down with a lance at earlier levels where a naginata will still be at 5 seconds. I have never actually encountered an old style one so cannot say what the advantage, if any is, over a new one.
MY wizard is working on a 6X right now and one of my alts is using a 7X, if you are still interested in a month or so when I am finished with the 6X, I may be talked into parting with the 7X. The 7X is a tanik-hafted glaes naginata, so not exactly vanilla.

There's a lot of misinformation here.
Goat, you are absolutely correct.
A Naginta is a Halberd for all intents and purposes, but has +20 AvD over a halberd. According to Gswiki (RIP Krakii), there are no damage factor differences between the two weapons, and they have the same base/minimum RT. A naginta is superior compared to a halberd for all creatures.
Oldstyle versus newstyle Nagintas mean nothing. AvD is added directly to the difference in AS and DS. Whether you have +20 AS or +20 AvD, it'll still equate to +20 on the endroll. This is incredibly similar to the discussions around Ensorcells on armor/shields. While it's not directly adding to TD, it's making you be able to ward spells better by adjusting CvA... so for all intents and purposes, it may as well be adding to TD.
I'd also like to state that there's an assumption here that there are no DF differences between an oldstyle and newstyle naginta, nor between a newstyle Naginta and a Halberd. I know there have been relatively recent corrections on the ranged weapon damage factors for composite bows, so the wiki may not be 100% accurate.

Whirlin, so AvD is factored into endroll, I guess I always thought it was factored in after you actually got a hit. Like I said, I am not great on the mechanics of the melee system.

this is my burning question. i think the answer is, my old style nagi is a poopy. even though it bardsings as +20, is made of glaes, and is blessable/411/902able

I'll pick one up for 4k tonight and check. I'm currently (occasionally) swinging a stock fusion naginata with a +11 dex orb in it (for 5 second 2-target mstrikes). It is definitely not my 7x perfect ironwright t5 pike (which I bought from IW, FWIW), but it's fun for playing with mstrike (5 sec RT vs 10 for the pike) and headshots (6 sec RT vs 8 for the pike, and somewhat more accurate).
