Paging Kerl, paging Kerl..

HURL has been updated to let you HURL without specifying the target.

Players who HURL their weapons at inanimate objects will no longer be disarmed.

For the briefest of moments a long dead part of me sparked with life.

And then it was snuffed out again.

years of development on the project, finally coming to fruition.

Doesn't seem like much of an update but is it a good one at least?

Well it's not the rewrite desired but the first issue was annoying and the second downright scary (if using expensive gear).

And it shows someone is working on the system at last.

Why would someone hurl at an inanimate object to begin with?

hurl ra(t)

You cannot hurl at a rake, therefore you are now disarmed. NOOB!

There's been a few returner drops to the ground during invasions or in the Scatter when hurling at a lich & a random wolifrew lichen in the room.

Ouch.

Roblar is spot on. Hurling now functions with all the same norms as melee. To know that I no longer have to specify targets, and no longer have to worry about hurling an axe at a piece of lichen instead of a lich, these are very good things. They are the basic, first steps to making the system work for more people. Shoot, I may have to log in.

this was easily fixed with a script that typed target random anyway no?

Yes, but, the important thing is someone is actually looking at thrown. If it's ever fixed so I don't have to have a 40m item I might come back just to try it. Been wanting to do it for years.

Not the hurling at lichen part though, heh.

I've always preferred to choose my targets one at a time, but sometimes that is just too difficult. During invasions for example, it's a real pain. Now, I won't have to type out "crossbowman" for fear of hurling at a crossbow laying on the ground in the middle of an invasion. Yay? Both fixes are good fixes.

The cheap version (unlimited bandolier's) just went for 60m. As a warrior (which I believe you are) it's also frustrating to not have it synergize with berserk and reap the full benefits of bonding.

Yeah, i mean it's a great change and i 100% support it. it was also i'm guessing a quick win, since they probably just had to port over some code from ATTACK, but it's kind of funny it ends up being code that benefits like...the like, 8 people that actively play and hurl :D

Hopefully it's a precursor to overall improvement of the system so it doesn't have such a large barrier of entry.

Right. Hopefully hurling gets an upgrade similar to the one that ranged weaponry got, where it actually became something usable by many, and a popular combat form.

I do kind of like the synergistic nature of it today, where many of the best hurling weapons can be used for either a hurl or a strike if you're properly trained. Conversely, most of the pure hurling weapons don't work worth a crap. We've covered this ground many times on the officials and the PC, with solutions for most of the problems with hurling.

Yup. And my biggest complaint is it seems to work so much better with big ass weapons. I think hurling, i think daggers more than anything. Spears and axes work, obviously, and have a precedence but i dunno...daggers and stuff is so much more fun.

I do kind of wish i tried pick up that mosquito dagger though. cause that thing is just flavortown USA.
