Either way in today's league, that play wasn't going to stand. Take the helmet to helmet aspect out and dude was still a defenseless receiver. You just can't flatten guys like that anymore.

I guess it means if you're able to make it look like you killed the guy, he was defenseless. I'm sure it gets much more technical... he probably has to have caught the ball and made a certain number of 'football moves', whatever the hell that means.

I don't think that's right about needing the ball to be a defenseless receiver. I believe a big part of what they wanted to eliminate was people going across the field, arms up, and getting blasted when they touched the ball. That's also probably a part of why this 'football move' concept came to be. They want people to be able to catch the ball and protect themselves rather than the old days of that slot receiver maybe fearing to attempt a catch because he's going to earn some bruised ribs for it.

Plus, I believe you have to have the ball to make a football move, so... yeah. Too much overthinking just like they do now with determining a catch.

Welcome to the new safety-first (hahaha) NFL. I'm not saying I agree with all that nonsense, but that's the way they're taking it. I hope we never see those damn helmets with lights to indicate possible concussions, but it wouldn't surprise me at this point.
