Question for you computer Lovers

Im looking to buy a new laptop, anyone have any suggestions on what I should look into? I am trying to stay away from things over 2k in price.

IBM Thinkpad T40's rock. I have no idea how much they cost.

hmm let me say one more thing... I want to be able to play games on it as well... its basicly going to be my desktop so it being small and light is not important

sony vaio.......not the mini one but the bigger one, 3.2 p4, 512 ram, 128 vid, 80 gb hd, cd/dvd burner, all the goodies, round 1200 after rebates.

I don't have a paticular model but I used to sell them, I always found gateways to be a good value and perform better than advertised. On the other hand I'm writing this on a gateway (M675 XL model) which I really like but that cost about 2600 or so, so it's a bit out of the range you said you wanted.

I ran a “Wall Street” for over a year with a dumb-ass monitor THAT I STILL HAVE... Its a matter of processor power and RAM that determines if its a good machine or not.
