View Full Version : Missing spirit affects maneuver defense?

The spirit penalty for AS/DS is based upon a percent of your missing spirit, so increasing your maximum spirit (through enhancives) does increase the amount of spirit you can lose before you see a penalty. However, for the maneuver penalty, it does not. Any spirit loss is a penalty, and the more that's missing, the higher the penalty. Voln Clerics do have an advantage in regaining spirit to offset the penalty, but that's just a part of societies in general, where they offer different advantages/disadvantages for players to pick between.

Has this always been known and no one ever told me? I'm pretty sure this is the first time I'm hearing of it. I see Krakiipedia (http://www.krakiipedia.org/wiki/Spirit) was updated today to reflect this.

This would certainly explain why my characters in the Rift seem to get their asses handed to them when they are running around with 1 spirit. But shit, kind of defeats the purpose of them being in CoL if they don't use wracking. Guess I'll have to find a happy medium.

I've played this game for 17 years and never knew this. Heh.

It's kind of crazy really. So someone with 12 or 13 spirit is especially screwed if they're down to 1. You're actually better off having less maximum spirit, in regards to maneuver defense anyways.

right, taking off the aura/+spirit enhancives is something to consider after you wrack.

On the other hand, if literally no one has noticed in the last 20 years...it can't be that bad. Though doing some testing would be interesting.

All I can say is my characters are constantly running around in the rift with 1 and 2 spirit and they die quite often to crawler burrows. No idea if this has anything to do with spirit but from now on when they get hit by a crawler burrow I'm going to be paying attention to where their spirit was at.

I always assumed with the AS/DS penalties, there were maneuver penalties. Nice to get confirmation though.

Its only for AFK scripting, coin farming, coin selling, RP scripting, character greeting, argumentative, not playing the game my way, trolling, crybabies.

Wait, there are people that didn't know this?

Low spirit makes you suck at pretty much everything.

Know how I know you're lying!?

Obviously I meant my script is going to make a note of what my character's spirit is when they die.

I wouldn't count it as common knowledge. Still, I'm glad it is the case. Means they have less ammo to nerf Wracking. Thanks for posting.

I guess people who have never really played squares a bunch wouldn't have noticed it as much.

Pretty hard thing to quantify. I always wracked down to 1 spirit, never noticed a difference between that and 13. Likely as you say, pures just suck at maneuvers.

Maybe it was an assumption on my part or someone told me way back, but I remember knowing about spirit effecting maneuver defense.

I didn't know you could go above 10 spirit though.

You used to be able go to up even higher but Oscuro and Estild nerfed that back in the day.

The biggest way I noticed it was, as a square, performing CMans with low spirit and noticing a correlation. Actually, it was when I first cman bonded to a weapon and didn't notice the massive loss of spirit and I went straight out hunting and I just sucked at everything.

By the time we've wracked a couple times, I imagine we just blamed it on the boxes.
