... just came up for preorder on Steam. This is the 'spiritual successor' to Planescape: Torment or Baldur's Gate. Get hype.

I'm excited. I hope it'll be as good as Dragonfall at the minimum.

I didn't really care for Baldurs Gate 1 and 2 but I loved the Icewind Dale games as well a Temple of Elemental Evil.

Bleh, Time for a computer desktop upgrade I think. Didnt quite realize my old quad core wasnt good enough to run this. Think I'll check out some best bang for the buck i7 systems from newegg and other places.

What kind of quad core do you have that can't run this? One of those ancient Core 2 Quads? You shouldn't need to get an i7, a lower i5/upper i3 would be fine if you're just looking to upgrade the cpu.

It 's probably not quite as bad as Im feeling, though it is starting to be long in the tooth.
Had it for about 5-6 years now maybe? Was pretty good deal at the time. Upgraded the ps and the graphics card. So i've gotten my money out of it.
Gateway quad core, dx4200, with amd phenom chip-9150e processor at 1.8 ghz
Main bottleneck is the 4gb ram, if i remember right its only expandable to 6 for some reason
card is a 4850 ati radeon
I havent looked at any benchmarks for a long time with the currently released processors.
I dont really want top of the line, but neither bottom.
I've seen a few decently reviewed i7s available recently that I think I'll go into more detail on now.

example- its sold out here, but i've seen the model offered at other places too, newegg, etc.

anywho, thanks for any input.

That price seems pretty high for what you get in return. For that price you can build something better that will last longer.

Pillars of Eternity is amazing, so far. It's like Baldur's Gate 2 on steroids, modern production values, interesting writing.

I wouldn't get an i7 paired with a 740. Better to go with an i5, saving ~$100, or go whole hog and replace the 740 with a 970, which is still the best gpu bang-for-your-buck despite the memory issues.

Balance in all things.

This. You'll get far better gaming performance.
