I play on the Plat side and was toying with the idea of starting a Sorcerer that was heavy in Necromancy lore to take advantage of a +27 Rot Flaring runestave I found diggin at EG. I also had some HCP robes gathering dust.

I've never played a pure before, just squares so I don't even know where to start in terms of training. I was hoping to pick your collective brains and see what you would come up with for a character like this. I'd also need help with race and stat placement. I'm thinking Dark Elf for CS purposes, also COL for society.

I figured the first 30 I would just sword and board, so I'm looking for a post 30 day training plan.

Let me know if I missed any of the pertinents.

(at level 36), your current skill bonuses and ranks (including all modifiers) are:
Skill Name | Current Current
| Bonus Ranks
Physical Fitness...................| 136 38
Magic Item Use.....................| 50 10
Harness Power......................| 130 35
Elemental Mana Control.............| 90 20
Sorcerous Lore - Demonology........| 134 37
Sorcerous Lore - Necromancy........| 5 1
Perception.........................| 90 20
Climbing...........................| 136 38
Trading............................| 120 30

Spell Lists
Minor Elemental....................| 30

Spell Lists
Minor Spiritual....................| 7

Spell Lists
Sorcerer...........................| 65

That is what my sorcerer looked like not too long after his 30 days were up. Only had the 10 MIU to use dull gold coins and the 20 EMC to share with my wizard, didn't need it in the field but it was useful for spell ups. You can obviously switch the demonology lore for necromancy easy enough. You also don't need to go sword/board for your first 30 days, just max out your AUR/WIS and you should do fine. I was too lazy to do it but you can also just switch your spells back and forth to cast your defensive spells then pile everything into sorcerer ranks when you go hunting. If you aren't 25 by the end of your 30 days, I'd suggest you have 107, maybe 414 if you can't get anyone else to cast it for you then everything you can in sorcerer spells. Once you hit 25 use your fixskills to respec and get 425.

Great guide by Whirlin that covers the basics. I would pay particular attention to the segment on how Runestaff DS works.

Runestaves
Runestaves get stronger as you train more magic skills. They do not require any inherent physical training to use, and they get stronger as you gain more magical skills relative to your level. Magical skills can be defined as: Spell Research, Spell Aiming, Mana Controls, Harness Power, Lores, Arcane Symbols, and Magic Item Usage.

Parry Ranks + trunc(STR bonus ÷ 4) + trunc(DEX bonus ÷ 4) = Base Value
(Base Value × TH Stance modifier) + Stance Bonus + Runestaff Enchant Bonus = Parry DS

Parry Ranks:
1. Less than 4 magic ranks per level
Parry Ranks = 10 + ((3 × magic ranks) ÷ (20))
2. Between 4 and 11 magic ranks per level
Parry ranks = 10 + level + [((magic ranks) - (8 × level)) ÷ 10]
3. More than 11 magic ranks per level
Parry Ranks = 10 + (level × 13/10) + [((magic ranks) - (11 × level)) ÷ 20]

(TABLE THAT DOESN'T FORMAT PROPERLY DELETED)

...What?
Lets say you're at 5 magic trains per level. Every 10 more ranks of magical stuff you train will yield +1 parry rank, until you get to the point where you're at 11 magic trains per level. That +1 parry rank is then used in the Stance modifier / Stance bonus equation.

So, basically, 10 ranks in something like MIU, AS, Spell Aiming, etc, can yield +.9 DS in guarded. Still rather expensive!

Make sure you're hitting at least 10 ranks in magical skills per level, unless you need to skimp a little to pick up a few ranks of Physical Training, Armor Use, Climbing/Swimming, etc. For scroll infusion, Scroll Reading is obviously more important than Magic Item Use, so if you want to double one of those for the extra ranks, I would choose that skill for the benefit to the Scroll Infusion (714) and general spell durations. You can use Scroll Infusion to insure you always have useful defensive spells like Thurfel's Ward (503), Colors (601), etc to help your DS. You have all that training in magical skills, right? Might as well use it!

As your character is being built upon using Necro-themed items, I would highly suggest you place extra points into either Necro Lore, or spell ranks to maximize the effect. Super crazy difficult long-term goal: Get your hands on the Hollow Soulstone Wand in Plat: http://www.krakiipedia.org/wiki/Hollow_Soulstone_Wand (http://Hollow Soulstone Wand)

One thing to keep in mind with rotflares is that Wyrom made it clear that the benefits don't kick in until later. So if you aren't high level, then you're going to really want to tank Necro (2x in it) to get real benefits from the rotflares.

Don't get me wrong- they're nice even without necro. But just something to keep in mind.
