This year I decided to go all high tech to try and catch the bastards who keep fucking with our decorations during the holidays. I decided to get some wifi cameras because it would be a pain to run an ethernet cable to the cameras for where I need them.

They work well enough for their relatively inexpensive price tag but the only thing I'm worried about is if they somehow use up data through Comcast because they only allow 250 gigs of usage per month. The cameras transmit the data over our wifi network and I view/record the video feed through my computer that is connected directly to the router. I don't think it would use data unless I wanted to view the video feed from like my smart phone when I'm at the store or something. Am I right about this or would they still use internet data? I ask because according to the program running the cameras each one uses almost 300k/b of data a second, I would blow through 250 gigs pretty fast at that rate.

I'm not at all worried about how much space the recordings use because the recordings are being saved to a 1TB hard drive.

Also would the increased use of bandwidth from the cameras on the router slow down other wireless devices connected to the router, like laptops and whatnot?

Buy another router and use that one specifically for the cameras. Then have 0 worries.

They shouldn't be. Hook them up and check the meter after a day.

According to Comcast's thingie it doesn't look like they are using data; the usage for this month is about average compared to the last 3 months.

I just don't want to be blind sided one day and see 600 gigs of data usage. That would suck.

Your comcast limits to 250? Ours metered it and had a thing at 250, but the cap wasn't implemented in this area yet.

When I checked today it said the cap was suspended for the time being. Not sure how long it's been like that or long much longer it's going to be suspended but about 1-2 years ago I know it didn't say anything about being suspended.

Cap only exists in a few test markets from what I recall.

When I had comcast mine had the suspended cap message too. I regularly had over 400 on there. No extra charges or anything. If you have that message you should be okay.

This, unless you're streaming the images to another location it shouldn't count against your data usage.

Okay so I bought another router because the cameras were eating up all of my bandwidth. The thing is I can't seem to get the routers to cascade but I can get the second one to bridge. The thing is whether I have wireless devices connect to the main router or second router the speed is the same and while the speed is better than when I had just the one router it's still pretty darn slow.

What exactly is the difference between cascading and bridging? Am I doing something wrong as to why the speed on wireless devices is so slow while bridging?

Also can different routers handle different amounts of data traffic? If so is this measured somewhere in the product description or is usually just some vague reference?

Just wondering if maybe a different router would help increase the wifi data speed.
