So, Wyrom released these at EG this year; pretty f'ing awesome. The following clip is them in action, and this is on my weapon swinging sorc with a 3 whole ranks of necro lore. Wyrom said that at 1x necro lore, they really get strong and at 2x they are...just wow. Those were more or less his words.

The first one is the flare, and the second one is the DoT aspect of it.
Gotten plenty of death crits with it, as well. And again, this is with only 3 ranks of necro lore.
Oh, and they are on my 8x perfectly fordged T5 ensorcell, blink, MCW greatsword. A couple of times, I have had the necro rot flare, the blink flare and the ensorcell flare, all in one swing.

Yes. Sorcs only. He did make a point to find all the active sorcs in Plat to make sure we each got it, but there are significantly less sorcs in plat, of course.

Hmm... I don't think he mentioned sorcs only on the officials in prime...too many people were excited about it and I remember no whining.

In prime I think it's supposed to be 5 slots. Someone asked him if it would be sorcs/necromancers only. He said something like "I don't want to exclude people, but I have some distribution ideas that should be helpful."
I will definitely be in the market to buy a slot. I just wish I knew how much services would cost so I'd know what I could bid.

Yeah...it was most definitely not for Sorcs only. He did more than one round of giving out the rot flares. Several non-sorcs got them before he came back the second time specifically looking for sorcerers.

he coded them as a subscript, so it would also work on scripted items. I think Ironwright flares was a no for now, but fusion was intended to be a yes once he talked with the creator.

well, they went my greatsword, which has just about everything else on it, including blink, which is a script, so they should be able to go on a fusion acuity runestaff, just my guess, though

I'm sure I'm missing something, but I can't seem to find it.
Are these flares being raffled/handed out at a specific time, randomly handed out, or sold at a vendor?
Coraesine was a firm no. Ethereal weapons were a yes, but the flares only work on things with blood, so highly useless against most types of undead.

Just a further note, as I play more and more with them, they are awesome, even at only 3 ranks of necro lore. They play well with the blink script, as well.

maybe next time... can you imagine my runestaff even more uber... fucking crazy. 4 slot fusion, t5 ensorcell, 10x acuity and then put rot flares on top of that with my 180 ranks of necro. Never thought I'd have the opportunity to buff that stick even more.

Whoever gets this needs to fixskill to 202 necro and post the results.
Skryn said that at 180 ranks I would have been at max power (my ranks if I was holding MY runestaff, not a loaner for testing), at 169 ranks I wouldn't be. So somewhere between the two is the threshold for max power.
I was doing ~75% flare rates at 169 ranks (flaring 3 out of 4). The flares were not any stronger, they DOT flares were not any stronger. However he also mentioned the critter would have been diseased and indicated the health loss from disease would have been much higher with higher lore ranks.

i think these rot flares are best for frequent shots, low level spells. good for lowbies, basically. if you one shot stuff it's kinda pointless.
I'll be testing these out on several professions. Here's my 1x necro lore cleric. Gonna be using 302 (bane) vs living. The rot flares don't hit undead.

If a creature is wounded already rot flares seem to amplify. See the 3rd combat log below. Also a residual flare did a knockdown! Cool.

Luft- can you take that data and do some calculations on how often you saw the flares when you had non-fatal casts at enemies? This is with 1x Necro, right? My friend gave me her logs, and she's the same level with no necro. We can compare and see if 36 ranks actually does anything.

Yeah- that'd be great. I have no idea how to do that. I looked at a friend's log (I put the flares on her weapon since she's having a rough time and since I refuse to do anything important with runestaves- which I'm irrationally convinced are always lost). It was interesting (though small numbers), and the flare rate honestly looked a little high. I'd love to be able to confirm those numbers. (Zero lore, by the way)

I got these on a bow and a dagger in shattered. I agree they seem to flare often, and often 3-4 times in a row. I wonder if there is a higher chance to flare if a target already has the dot on it, or if the flares are getting 'saved up' somewhow like with warrior bonding flares.
I also like how quickly the dot ticks. After the initial flare, i usually see another round of damage before my 3-4s of roundtime are up.

I counted my friend's logs, and it looked like the flare rate was between 1/4-1/3 (no lore). I imagine if there had been more log, it would've leaned to one of those more heavily.
And I agree that the fact that you seem to get the first flare almost immediately is really cool. The actual flares seem to be slightly on the low side, but when you count in the extra DoT that happens so quickly, the total is nice.

Reality check: These flares are about as functionally useful as the Disease and Nightmare-curse spells combined, cast by a fully-trained capped sorcerer [Hint: these lame spells are NEVER utilized except as parlor tricks, because capped critters will pound the snot out of you for dicking around]. Is the messaging neat? Sure. Will you feel even more smugly superior to your admiring posse of sycophants when you add them to your already too powerful uber-weapon? Of course! Would Forest Gump snicker at you for wasting a rare slot with a crappy mid-tier weapon in the first place, only to then attempt to swindle some sucker into overpaying by an order of magnitude for something that will cause shame and regret? You betcha!
With such a limited release, these flares should have been attuned to the winner.

Hey I've got the rotflares morning star in prime, and I just figured I'd drop in and share what I've learned from my own personal testing. Rotflares runestaves are coming out in the upcoming event- so if you're thinking about it, you should know what you're getting!
1) Rotflares have two types of damage- the immediate flare and the secondary DoT effect.
2) The immediate flare seems to be a mix of disruption and unbalance crit tables (I gleaned this from a script I found on lich, so take it with a grain of salt). Ratio appears to be about 80/20, but I haven't looked at this carefully enough to take that estimate as law.
3) The secondary DoT effect has its first cycle almost immediately after the flare hits- like 1-2 seconds. Without Necro training, the secondary is usually between 5-12. damage. Usually the crit isn't anything to write home about, but occasionally it can result in a knockdown.
4) The damage of the secondary DoT effect doesn't appear to have much (or any) relationship to the damage of the initial flare. So you can have an initial flare do 5 damage, and then the secondary may hit for 12. And you can have an initial flare of 50 and a secondary of 5.
5) The damage cycles seem to be roughly 5-10 seconds. I need to check on that more carefully.
6) You can only have one secondary cycle going at any given time on the same creature. So multiple initial flares against the same target won't result in multiple secondary damage cycles at once.
7) Base flare rate (without Necro training) appears to be about 25%. So it flares more often than standard flares.
8) We've been told that you need pretty high levels of necro training before you see any noticeable benefit. It's probably not worth it for a non-sorcerer who isn't post-cap and out of things to do to train in necro lore for the sake of these flares.
9) Rotflares do NOT affect undead targets.
If people care, I may be able to run through a log of a hunt and give a snapshot of the flares in action when used by someone with no lore training. Otherwise, hopefully some of the info above was handy.
