Hello - back playing after a few years away. I installed Lich per the instructions on the website, but when I try to log-in/play through lich.rbw, nothing happens. Any thoughts on what's wrong? I can log in through SGE, but Lich doesn't work. When I click "install" for the SGE in lich.rbw, SGE no longer works. I'm using Windows 8.

Do you have all the updated stuff? Ruby/Lich etc? There's a thread under scripting. You should try over there.

Set Ruby to run in administrative mode. You can easily get to the ruby options by pinning Lich to your taskbar.

Tried running it in administrator mode, but didn't help.

This is what my debug file in the Lich temp folder says.

Looks the same as my debug reports, except mine actually connect... just to stress my last post once more, cause I know that if the SGE .sal file doesn't even show up in trying to connect, it's usually permission related. You want to be running the Ruby Interpreter as administrator, if you're clicking on the Lich ruby extension, and setting that to run as administrator, it won't do anything.

If you click on the Install tab, you should get the SGE file extension, not the Restart as Admin option.

Alternatively... have you tried turning your computer off and on?

I don't get how to run the Ruby Interpreter as administrator. Can you explain? And yes, I turned it on and off MANY times. ;)

Head to your lich folder... Drag the file titled "Lich" down to the taskmenu:

Then, you'll see the Icon the same as the fourth one in my list on your taskbar.

Right click on the icon, right click on the Ruby Interpretor, and click properties:

Then, Set it to always run as administrator

If you're successful, you WILL get a message prompt EVERY TIME YOU START RUBY, which will confirm that you want to allow it to run stuff... select yes, and you'll be back in Gemstone in no time.

I had issues with Win 8 and running the old version of lich from the website. Unless it's been updated, try doing the instructions for the new lich and ruby 2.0 here -->http://forum.gsplayers.com/showthread.php?92277-Need-people-to-test-Lich-4-6. Since you're starting fresh, this is a good place to start as the new ruby is pretty neat in my opinion.

So, do you get the launcher? If so, when you click PLAY it does nothing? Try going into your TEMP folder after you click. Towards the bottom, is there a "launcherXXXX" or something near the bottom? Before it times out and disappears, double click on it and it might work. P.I.T.A for now but might get you running enough to try it out.

The link above fixed my issues with that though. Just a bit of a struggle getting Ruby 2.0 installed right for me but you might have better luck.

OMG I die. It worked. Thanks Soulance, and everyone who gave feedback.
