Ice Patch (512) has been updated!

GM Nitid has added the following improvements to the spell:

*-* If Ice Patch is directed at a specific target, it will root them in place, hampering combat.

*-* With Elemental Lore, Water training, it is possible to cast Minor Water (903) at the target and it will convert to minor cold (the spell found in blue wands). 10 ranks of Elemental Lore, Water will allow one cast of 903-converted minor cold, with the maximum being twelve casts at 200 ranks.

*-* When untargetted, it is possible that the target may hurt themselves after falling (requires Elemental Lore, Water training).

Spell Description

Duration: Determined by warding failure

Type: Attack

Untargetted, this spell allows a caster to create a large patch of slippery ice, covering much of the surrounding area. Characters and creatures trying to engage in melee or thrown weapon combat on the ice patch will find that they may slip either before or after an attack is made. Training in Elemental Lore, Water increases both the duration of the patch and how effective it is at making the opponent slip and fall, with possible damage.

If Ice Patch is directed at a specific target, it will root them in place, hampering combat. Then, with Elemental Lore, Water training, it is possible to cast Minor Water (903) at the target and it will convert to minor cold (the spell found in blue wands). 10 ranks of Elemental Lore, Water will allow one cast of 903-converted minor cold, with the maximum being twelve casts at 200 ranks.

Well, it looks better. I'll post a log when I get a moment to see if I can find out what exactly "hampering" is.

Can anyone show an example of this new rooted effect? I would like to know if it is dodgable, and what are the exact effects of being rooted in that manner.

CS based cast, they cant move, but can probably cast/move their arms

It casts the slender blue wand spell, right now is a bit buggy, but will be cool when fully implemented. will give lightning attuned folk a boon. Between air lore bonusses and waterlore(which are planned for RSN) it'll work out

I was curious, so I tried it out..fyi, I have no water lore:

You gesture at a rolton.
An airy mist quickly gathers around a rolton.
CS: +286 - TD: +3 + CvA: +25 + d100: +23 == +331
Warding failed!
The mist leaves the entire lower half of a rolton's body encased in a thick block of ice.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.

It just hinders their attack pretty bad, it's not like bind or anything. When you cast water at them while frozen:

Your hands glow with power as you invoke the phrase for Minor Water...
Your spell is ready.
>
You gesture at a rolton.
You hurl a stream of water at a rolton, but it freezes just before impact. Carefully, you summon the chunk of ice back to your hand...
You hurl a chunk of ice at a rolton!
AS: +309 vs DS: +0 with AvD: +45 + d100 roll: +84 = +438
... and hit for 243 points of damage!
Strong blow to back!
The rolton collapses to the ground, emits a final bleat, and dies.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.

Neat! Not sure how pratical it will be if you have to ice everyone first, but I hear minor water is a pretty cheap spell, which is the upside.

It's dumb to hurl water at them, have it summoned back to your hand, and hurl it again.....

if its already on the way to the person.. and freezes.. wouldnt that be good enough?

:newbie: I don't care about the messaging, it's still cool.

Heh, old bump, sorry, but what spell circle is the targetted CS cast based off of? Major Elemental? And freezing them lowers their AS, does anyone know by how much, whether it's a flat number or a percentage and if so, what number? And does it lower their defense at all, even just a minor drop? Or does it cast some sort of slow effect on them? Any real bonus other than to get to hurl more powerful water-based attacks? And what's the damage factor for the ice block spell in GS4? It sounds as if stone fist would be a better immobilization spell. And what other spells are affected by water lores?

Thanks,

- N
