Coming back after a long hiatus, and having some difficulty. I did some searching to see if anyone has come across this issue before, came up with nothing. I'm running a laptop with Windows 8, successfully installed the most recent versions of Simu's Game Launcher, and logged in without Lich to ensure the most current version of Stormfront is installed.

Then I installed Ruby, and downloaded then extracted the Lich 4.4.19 folder. I am able to log in to my account successfully, and I can open the game using Stormfront. Once it loads, and displays my location, I get only as far as the following:

This is apparently the first time you've run updater.lic

These scripts have been added to your update list: updater, repository, lnet, infomon, spell-list.xml, go2, narost, gameobj-data.xml
Lich has been set to update automatically.
map.dat has been set to update automatically.

If you'd like to change these settings, kill this script (;k updater) and use ;updater help
Otherwise, unpause this script to continue. (;u updater)

--- Lich: updater paused.
>;u updater
>look

At this point I cannot interact with Lich, OR the game. I may get one or two lines after that...a death message, a Voln message, etc, but that's it. No commands will work with either Lich or Gemstone and I receive nothing further from either.

I believe I've ran into this problem before, but can't remember what I did to fix it. It's been a long time. Any suggestions?

I tried three times to download Lich on my laptop with windows 8. I couldn't get it to work so I use wizard and make my own scripts. Well that and some really quick typing and good memory.

Step 1: Get ahold of Tillmen.
Step 2: Tell Tillmen your problem.
Step 3: Give 10 bucks to Tillmen's paypal.
Step 4: Follow his instructions.
Step 5: ????
Step 6: Profit.

How long did you let it sit before you thought it might be having a problem? I think when I installed 4.4 the first time it took 5 minutes or so of just sitting there before everything finally updated and set it self up to where I could then play.

You're downloading a lot of data (25k+ rooms and relationships between those rooms, maps, etc), it takes it a few minutes the first time it runs to set everything up.

I think I would enjoy the traveling aspect of Lich. I mean you simply click on a room from a map or type goto (Room Number). I wouldn't like Lnet because I like to stay in character . To much ooc talk on Lnet.

You can ;tune lnet off completely. I do sometimes when it gets overly annoying.

There are several ways you can use it for travel:

1. Create aliases for g2 destinations. Example - I have an alias for TSC, I just type tsc and it takes me there (using ;alias add tsc=;go2 228). If you have spots you visit a lot this is probably the best way to go.
2. If you are exploring or hunting, but want to see the actual rooms you can use ;narost. This pops up a Tsoran map in a new window and you can click on each room and it will ;go2 that room. You can set ;go2 up for things like using portals (In Plat or Shattered), withdrawing silvers from your bank for gates and ferry trips, etc.

Personally, I wouldn't be playing if it wasn't for ;go2. My hands arent what they used to be as a younger man and I'd hate having to pull out the old map binder all the time. ;go2 takes the pain out of getting around quickly.
