So, finally, my mom is coming to visit me. I haven't seen her in 9 months. She'll be spending 6 days here in the area with me, and I'm wondering if you guys have any suggestions as to what to do. We're definitely going to Baltimore for a day, and we're going to tour DC, but I'm wondering what else there is to do.
Keep in mind my mom isn't very mobile, she's pretty sickly, and generally uses a wheelchair (not because she is paralyzed, but because she has a lot of pain when moving around). I haven't done a ton of exploring around here either, so any suggestion is good. :) Cool museums would be nice, there's so many to choose from...
Definately go with Museums, I'm not too familiar with the DC area, but maybe they have tours of the white house, or you could explore the surrounding area, the monument, the congress building... um... the building on the backside of the penny...?
I dunno, throwing out what I think are suggestions here.

Baltimore Aquarium. Powerhouse. Sisson's. Imax. That really good smoothie place in the Inner Harbor. The zoo. The Standard movie house.

Smithsonian. There's nothing better in DC - and you can spend two days walking/wheeling through that place and still not see everything!

The aquarium is a must, we're doing that and the harbor on Thursday.
Is Fredricksburg worth going to?

There is absolutely nothing in Fredricksburg (unless she like battlefields and shit). It's basically a halfway point between Northern VA and Richmond.
Drive the extra 25 minutes and go to Kings Dominion. She could probably cut in line w/ the wheelchair.

I don't think Kings Dominion is in the cards.
She's definitely into arts and crafts and stuff. I'm sort of tempted to make a day trip to Philly or something. I'm just imagining trying to find stuff to do, I want to have some sort of a game plan.

Find a Hard Times Chili Parlor to go to. You'll both thank me later (after the heartburn stops).
Damn I'm hungry.

There's one in Herndon, actually. Hey, thanks! I know where we're going for dinner tomorrow! :)

Here's a tip -
Ask for a chili sampler to find out what kind of chili you & your mom like.
There are 4 kinds:
Vegetarian Chili - (obviously no meat) very hot.
Cincinatti - sweet, has a little bit of cinnimon (yuck)
Texas - dry hot meat chili.
Terilinqua - da shit. kinda like Texas - but with a little bit of tomato sauce in it to make it perfect.
And I recommend getting a chili mac.
Damn I'm still hungry.

The Air and Space museum is pretty cool, though likely not her cup of tea. There's also the Natural Museum of History. The Holocaust Memorial Museum is very accessiblity-oriented, and offers an enlightening look into the Holocaust. The National Museum of Art is currently featuring an American Masters exhibition. The Corcoran Gallery of Art is featuring an exhibition of American Impressionists.
