I have a runestaff using 29 train giant cleric. I was wondering if you could take a look at her stats and training and tell me why her CS is so low so I can fix it. ANY help would be appreciated!

She casts 302 at CS 148, and it takes her around 30 casts to kill ONE like level creature, so I know somethings wrong somewhere.

Well there's a couple factors that might not be related to training.

Are you remembering to CHANNEL and not just cast? More open hands and higher stances help.

Are you hunting something that you are properly aligned to hunt?
It may just be that the creatures are inherently more difficult to hunt than other things like-level for clerics.

Don't see anything really glaringly wrong with the training plan.

Um... I've got a level 30 Cleric who also hunts with 302. She is currently hunting in Varunar, (Corpses are 33, I think), but she has been hunting them for the last 5 levels. So if you want to hunt with 302, she's got a good training plan. (My CS is 162)

I have 5 ranks of armor training, so you can tank that and put it all in magic. Also, are you using spell aiming? If not, you can tank that and put that all in other useful stuff instead.

Here are my stats/training plan:

Strength (STR): 55 (7) ... 55 (7)

I don't think you need to 2x harness power...1.5x at most

I get along with 1x, but I'm in CoL

Basically those are just stylistic choices, there isn't anything wrong with her current basic training. She's fully singled in clerical base and religion lore which is all that needs to be looked at for effective smite/bane if the hunting style is appropiate.

Don't forget, you MUST choose an alignment to get the full effect of Bane/smite.

Well... Someone told me that Gosaena was full power against living and 75% against undead, so I picked her to have a greater advantage over living things because she's COL and I just simply do not like hunting undead if it can be avoided.

Unaligned she couldn't even hit a Kobold... It was sad :lol2:

She's trying to hunt Trolls in Greymist.

..I have 5 ranks of armor training, ...
You can get away with having that little? Hmmm, maybe I should throw mine away too then.

if you're not using holy bolt, tank aim. tank most of the armor. pour it all into spells. if you can still get your discipline higher, I'd do that as well. It's not a bad plan though. Clerics are hard to be pures with.

Ok...I took about four years off, came back the other night, and now I need some serious help because these changes are crazy...

I have a level 34 cleric who was originally a pure caster, and I tried to modify her a little bit to go along with the changes. I took away some of her tripling spells and added other magic, and tried to make her useful for runestaffs? Please someone let me know what you think.

My CS is only 189 right now...I remember it being over 200 before the switch. I believe I need to change my spiritual lore to single in religion.

Also, I'm currently a voln master and I need to align. I was thinking voln but I dont know anything about what perks each of the gods give. Any help would be amazing!

Thanks so much to anyone who can offer advice or take me under their wing.

I went with 1x Brawling, 1x Shield, and 2.5X spells, about .3x Religion lore, and 1X HP.
If you go more than 2x spells, it's best to dump the extra ranks into cleric until you've got 60 more cleric ranks than your level.

knoble:

Spell Aiming - Double or nothing. Singling in it won't yield a high enough bolt AS to hunt with.
Harness Power - May want to boost it to 1.5x to 2x for more mana.
Spiritual Mana Control - tank it down to 1x. Does not affect 302 infusion rates anymore.
Blessing lore - Sorta blows, stick to 10 ranks. Anything more right now isn't even useful.
Religion/Summoning Lore - Religion to use with 302. Summoning for 111/110.

Align to a "good" diety to hit undead best. Align to an "evil" diety to hit live creatures best. There are certain exceptions though.

At your level range, there's plenty of undead so I wouldn't sweat it.

When you hunt with 302, remember to [CHANNEL at target] and not just cast. It is more effective in offensive and open hands helps it deal more damage.

hmm....

My cleric is 61, and I would strongly advise against tanking spell aim unless you have the fixskills left to correct this mistake later. I double in spell aim (I would either double or do nothing at all) and it enables me to hunt a wider range of critters than would be possible with 302 alone. I mostly hunt the temple in EN (and at my train, there aren't tons of options), and you can't hit dogmatists with bane at all (at least I can't...they have some weird defense against that and 319), but 306 works wonders. Plus I can use gold wands, bless aqua wands, blue wands when I'm on Teras trying to tackle fire mages....I like have multiple hunting tools (cs and as based) so that I can use the right tool in the right moment. Try to remember you won't be 30ish forever.

And if you find doubling in aim isn't good enough, remember that there are lots of things that boost bolt AS, but only a few things to help out with CS (and they don't call them heavy quartz orbs as a joke). You can boost your AS with 211, 215, 307, and wands imbedded with 513 (my favorite trick). Hunting with bards is also great for that, or those warriors with that snazzy warcry thing.

2x spell aim
Get yourself in brig and write a short little script that emptys your hands drops you into offensive and channels 302. If you can find something that's brawling, ensnaring, or using a crappy weapon, you can screw around in stance off both hands empty as long as you want. This works real well up to at least level 50 on undead.

I don't have a normal training plan but I'll be honest I don't see the hunt variety of 306/111 vs 302 to be worth the TPs. Out of all the creatures I can/could hunt I only see 1 that would be more huntable with 306/111 instead of 302 or even 312. It's a matter of preference though. If you like slinging bolts or thats your style go for it. Personally I like my CS based spells and the TPs spent elsewhere.

306 is really nice for hunting 8-10 levels over your head, or when you really need a stun.

Sean
10-25-2004, 02:27 AM
Thats a preference thing again. I can't honestly say I'd prefer to hunt 8-10 levels above my head with death sting.

Spell aim really isn't worth it for two spells with mana costs that are kinda steep. 6 mana for acid and 11 mana for major fire. I hunted the temple, and just didn't kill the dogmatists. In my opinion, that's alot of TP's to spend for two spells. You're much better off putting those TP's into extra spell ranks and boosting your CS.

if you're at a level where you're hunting the temple and have a decent infusion rate, there's a pretty good chance your 302 is costing you more than 306. And, chances are, when you're at that train, you're going to find yourself overhunting a lot more than you would prefer (even with death's sting) just because there aren't so many options. Sure, I could hunt ogres all the time, but why restrict myself to that when the temple is possible and all my friends hunt there too? I've been hunting the temple pretty regularly in groups since I was 46 trains for just those reasons and it's totally doable and not even that dangerous with 306 and my 513 wands. The last three times I died in Illistim, it was because someone blew up a box (I won't say anything about those deaths in Teras, however).

I'm just now (at 61 with 20 extra 300s spells ranks) able to hit hierophants and supplicants with 302, and it only happens about 60% of the time. 306 is great fun! And, 111 is expensive, surely, but it's bounce-around effect makes the extra cost worthwhile in certain circumstances (not to mention the glacier critters hated the fire!).

Again, just my two silvers worth, but you won't be 30 forever (hopefully).

-Myitkyina

P.S. And one thing I forgot to mention in my last post is that you cast boost your bolt AS with society tricks too. I'm a voln master, and the 26 extra points from symbol of courage makes a big difference. I understand that COL folks get an even bigger boost. Nothing in Voln for boosting CS though (again, not sure about COL, but I think that's true for them too).

ehh, im with mistomeer here, get to about 2.7x spells and you wont have the issue of hitting them 60% of the time.. Leave the dogmatists alone and you fry faster with less mana.

At 66 when i started hunting the rift i was already hitting the raving lunatics (77) 80% of the time. I save a shitload of TPs and dont need to worry about what spell to cast at what time. Just makes more sense to me what mistomeer says than blowing 2x skills on spell aiming.

Once again, it's totally a personal preference, but i can overhunt as well as anyone, and have a higher CS than most people 4-5 trainings above me as clerics... stick 60 spells over your training in cleric and you're good to go

Sean

The mana cost of my 302 doesn't really matter. I never run out of mana hunting and I'm not even fully 2x. I also agree with Alarke. I fry very fast in the temple just leaving dogmastists. They can't hurt me anyway.
